Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. Since piracy is being discussed currently in the Hangar Chat forum, I'll throw this one out to the peanut gallery. I've caught several pirates red-handed with my new FS2Crew NGX product. A few of them are Avsim members. What should I do with them?

For any in the viewing area of UNCTV (I know, they're may be none), a documentary comes on tonight at 10PM EST. Speedbird: The History of Piedmont Airlines. If you're from North Carolina and you're old enough to remember Piedmont Airlines, you know that she was the pride of our state and a very successful, friendly airline. Before USAir came along, that is. http://video.unctv.org/video/2226917654

  3. As it says on the tin! I seem to have been using more than my fair share of help credits here over the last few weeks and I just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to read, respond and offer advice on my various woes. I have been a member of many forums over the last 15 years or so and since I joined last year, AVSIM is becoming a firm favourite. A community is only as good as its members and we seem to have more than our fair share of quality participants. I just hope I manage to give back a fraction of what I have received during my time here. Thanks all (you know who you are) and thanks to Tom and all the mods for successfully running the knife-…

I thought that might get some attention. I did a VFR flight in Ant's Eaglet tonight ( New Zealand OrbX) and made a perfect approach and landing in NZCH. It appears the nice cold beer en-route made me less twitchy. I suppose the rather large runway was a big help. I really like the Eaglet, I'd love to fly one for real!!!!!

  7. With our recent system upgrades and fine tuning of our back end systems, we have made the decision to bring back our Online Chat System. The Chat system allows you to "chat" with your fellow AVSIM Community members in real time. This is a text based system and is not a "voice over IP" system such as TeamSpeak. Never the less, it gives you instant access to your fellow members at anytime of day or night, 24 / 7. You can access the Chat system by clicking on the COMMUNITY tab or by clicking here.

I ordered an iPad and an Apple Airport Express vi the Apple website at the same time, same order. Shipping was billed separately but each item cost within $3 of each other to ship. My iPad came from China via FedEx most likely on an MD-11 or 777, while my Airport Express is coming via UPS, from California... evidentially on horse and cart. Now my iPad arrived today this AM, but my UPS shipped item is still wandering around the countryside somewhere, in the back of a big brown truck... I paid $3 more for the UPS shipping than FedEx... the item shipped via FedEx came from across the pacific... while the UPS shipped item is coming from a few states away... th…

  9. The only issue that we detected after the upgrade this afternoon was that the BLOCK FORUMS FROM SEARCH was not compatible with the new OS. That module has been removed, and will be replaced when the author updates it to be compatible with the latest revisions. If you detect any issues after the upgrade today, please post those issues in the TRACKING SYSTEM here.

Sad news. A Sukhoi Sukhoi Superjet 100-95, registration RA-97004 performing a demonstration flight from Jakarta Halim Perdanakusuma Airport to Jakarta Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (Indonesia) with 36 passengers, 6 crew and 2 Sukhoi officials, was enroute near Mount Salak and Bogor about 36nm south of Jakarta about 30 minutes into the flight when the radio contact with the aircraft was lost. The aircraft has not turned up at Jakarta or any other airport in the area and would have run out of fuel by now. http://www.avherald....=44f464f7&opt=1

  12. I remember when MS released Train Simulator back in 2001 and thought, how cool it would be if they could combine it with Flight Simulator in one "online" world where the train simmers could run all across the country side while the pilots could populate the skies. They could see us and we could see them, just like real life. When Ship Simulator came out in 2009, even though it was from a different developer I had the same "how cool" thoughts... Flight Simulator combined with Train Simulator combined with Ship Simulator all in some online world. Now I know that we have add ons for just such stuff in the FS world. But they are limited. What I'm thinking abou…

  13. Okay, I know this is kinda late, but I live in Houston and this is kinda important to me. I know many of you live elsewhere, but have a read. Southwest Airlines wants to "free" Hobby airport, one of the 3 major airports in the Houston area, to make it international. Yes, there is currently George Bush Intercontinental, but this airport is the main hub for United Airlines, so it doesn't "fit" for Southwest to depart from there, since they have been operating domestic flights out of Hobby for more than 30 years. According to the Houston Airport System and Southwest, to equip Hobby for international flights, it would require a new international terminal and a Unit…

Welcome to GO-Connect! GO-Connect was launched in may 2012, after 10+ years in the Virtual Airline community we felt there was a need for a NEW and FRESH multiplayer network that all flight simulator entusiasts could fly on regardless of what level experiance you may have. Before GO-Connect was launched there were only 2 network's worth your attention: GAMESPY and VATSIM. However both networks had there disadvantages. GO-Connect offers you 99.9% reliability, so there would be NO logging in problems or disconnection problems. GO-Connect network has fully working VOICE comm's via your radio stacks and teamspeak 2 With GO-Connect there are NO tests and you do not hav…

  15. We are happy to announce the addition of a new feature to the AVSIM system - and it is system wide with hints of things to come. If you go to your User Control Panel (UCP), you will now find a tab at the top of your panel name NEWS FEED - not to be confused with RSS FEEDS. Actually it is much more than news, and it really doesn't mean news. What it means is anything NEW in a large number of areas that you might be interested in. You can select those areas of AVSIM that you would like feeds from. Once you have selected those parts of the AVSIM system that you would like to be kept up with, you can choose how many items you will be "fed" whe…

So guys! Yesterday was the first flight I made in over 4 years since I last flew. I'm doing the whole PPL training from the start again, since I stopped when I had just 12 flight hours. One of the stuff that always made flying less of a pleasure for me what the constant motion sickness I got from flying. I remember on my first flight that I told the instructor to take it easy since he was doing some high angle turns with climbs and descents, and by the time we landed I was happy to be back on the ground without vomiting the whole plane. I can't remember if this feeling went away after I accumulated more flying hours, I remember feeling kind of bad after some flights, …

Anyone else here play Mount and Blade by chance? Since picking it up on Amazon the other day, I can't stop playing-- and haven't flight simmed since... Last night on the Napoleon DLC server, there were around 190 players. We grouped and charged the other side up on a hill. It was epic! If you haven't played and have any interest in an FPS game that deals with sword, musket and cavalry warfare it is worth picking up! Nothing like 200 people online in a concerted battle. Here is a video of some typical action...
