Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. Hi everyone, This is my first post on AVSIM, but I've been reading around on the forums a lot anonymously :D My name is Howard Yang, and I'm currently a Sophmore in high school. As an assignment for English class, I am to choose a career I would want, and write a twelve page paper on it . I have chosen a pilot as my career path, and as hoping if any commercial pilots on these forums (I've already seen at leas a dozen) could help me with the interview section. This would only take thirty minutes of your time at most, and can be done on this forum, through, email or any other method you prefer. Alternatively, if anyone had considered this career path as well but cho…

If you you type "pilotdynan spotting" you'll see dozens of his spotting videos, and all of them are spectacular, this guy really knows what he's doing, there are hundreds of spotting videos but nothing like his IMO. Recently he compiled his 4.5 hour spotting, and planned to release the dvd version I aint sure what he means by "release", but as he commented on his videos he will keep this for free, thou I won't mind paying for his artistry, seriously, I won't mind at all. 4.5 hour spotting compilation from airports around the world is no joke.. I bet many people requested that he compile all of hisclips, the result is a free 4.5 hour of art- watching to's and landing…

  5. We have shut down the Classified advertising system and will shortly be opening both a CLASSIFIED ADS forum and a BARGAIN HUNTER'S forum as we used to have. The Classified Ads system, though a nice feature, was too cumbersome for most, and technically, not very well implemented. We may bring it back way into the future, if that module is much improved over what we saw here for the past months. The CLASSIFIEDS and BARGAIN HUNTER'S forums will be open shortly.

  6. Look at the blue prints of the Boeing 707 and the airports at that time. Compare that to what we have today. The concept is pretty much the same, only bigger and more congested. Here is the question....If you could reform this concept with the latest in technology available today, what would you do?

A civilian helicopter in the UK wrongly transmitted a hijack code for several minutes. This resulted in two RAF Typhoons being launched. They lfew at supersonic speed across southern England creating sonic booms which resulted in police forces being inundated with phone calls. A Ministry of Defence spokesman is quoted as referring to the “idiot” pilot who hasn’t been identified.

I am a very curious person. All my life I have roamed books, radio, the web, and wherever; absorbing information from all over the place like a sponge. My emphasis is usually technology, especially of the emerging, "nearly Sci-Fi" variety, but I have learned over time that left to my own inclinations I absorb information vociferously and omnivorously. Occasionally however, I bump into things that are so cool and unusual that I just have to share them! This first one is something I have been keeping an eye on for years, and has now reached what I suspect is the breakout point. Expect this to become part of your regular lives, and soon. This leads thematically to anothe…

I'm playing to Battlefield 3, and yes, I know, we cannot make comparison, there's not real planes, scenery and all the stuff, but take a look: This is the mission I played (jump to 4:20): and this a video that I found on youtube, I don't know if is an another mission: Doesn't look REALLY realistic? Take a look to the sky... Ok, now insult me for post it there :vava:

Hi, A little presentation. Like many of us, i'm a fan of all that can fly since the childhood. FS player of the early version, i play many of the jane's sim too when i was a teen. But Sim is a very demanding hobby and my job let me no time. I allways desire to fly again (virtualy and for real) so i buy FSX 3 years ago. But, again, i was too busy to open the box :) Now, i have 36 and i decide to play more seriously, so i install the the game nine month ago and begin to collect informations step after step and begin to aquire addons and hardware (a huuudge enterprise because of the pletoric offer ), progressing slowly to a better and most realistic virtual experienc…

  15. Guys, I'm not sure if this is the right spot to post this, but I'm gonna post it here and in a few other spots on the forum. As I'm sure most of you know the FAA is proposing that all first officers in Part 121 operations should hold an ATP certificate, along with having a minimum of 1500 hours. As someone who someday wants to become an airline pilot, this new legislation would almost make it financially impossible for me along with most others. Here's the link to the proposal: http://www.gpo.gov/f...f/2012-4627.pdf You can submit your comments to the FAA's Notice of Proposed Rulemaking office up until April 30th. After that date the FAA will no longer consider co…

The video shows a 747 making touch and go's as part of some kind of training or certification, it happens at night and not sure about the airport but I think it's KLAX. Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, Some of you may well know that Plymouth City Airport closed last Decemeber under a money scandal. The airport was being run down to the ground by a property development company whos intention was to soley use the land for housing, airlinks where cut, fuel and landing prices where increased and a city this size must have an airport. Can I ask that you follow the group on Facebook and sign our e-petition? You may well need to be a UK Citizen but any help on social networks is appreciated, please pass it around, I'm looking for your support. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/2758 https://www.facebook.com/saveplhairport Thanks to anyon…

http://coandaaero.wordpress.com/ I just wrote a long analysis of the press release on this page, then deleted it as it was probably a little bit over the top. Suffice to say I have some doubts as to the claims made in the press release, particular with regards to the rather ... wide ... variety of platforms proposed for support. Anyone else seen it / read it / understood parts of it / heavily invested real money in it? For some opinions similar to my own, read the comments section of this: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/04/06/the-flare-path-flustered-by-flux/#more-102882

  21. http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/New_Pilot_Rules_EASA_206492-1.html New rules for foreign pilots and foreign registered aircraft in Europe came into effect on Saturday and, depending on how member states of the European Union are implementing them, could mean that your FAA, Transport Canada or other pilot certificate or ratings are no longer recognized by the European Aviation Safety Agency. EASA Part FCL homogenizes crew licensing requirements in all EU states and essentially means that those who want to fly in the EU have to prove competence and compliance with EU rules, rather than …
