The origins of the Concorde SST go back all the way to the 1950s, and possibly even before that. Was the impressive UK strategic bomber - the Avro Vulcan (operated by the RAF from 1956 until 1984), the mother of the Concorde? This article certainly started me thinking about it:http://www.vulcantot...f-concorde.htmlWorth a read for anyone interested in SST (Supersonic Transport).

I'm 17hr into my PPL training and have yet to go solo mostly because of lack of continuity between lessons. It's taking me a long time to put the cash together (€200) for each lesson. I'm now beginning to think that I might have to give up real world aviation which would be one of the great disappointments in my otherwise charmed life. Does anybody have any words of wisdom or consolation? Would you stick with the odd lesson when funds allow or invest the cash in quality hardware and addons for FS?

Hi all,Not sure if anyone here has seen this but if you have heard of Outerra you will know it is a engine that depicts the world at an accurate scale and stands in the front of the line for the next "possible" flight simulator. Now it seems it has many uses so to ensure the flight sim genre still has a chance then get over there and cast your vote to show the developers you interest in it. This may re shape the future of flight simulation.http://www.outerra.com/forum/index.php?topic=840.0Kelvin

Anyone getting it?I didn't really see any "wow" new features on it, however. Seems exactly the same, but now with a retina display and a 5MP camera (useless... Who's gonna bring a freaking IPAD to a party to take photos?)So, what are your thoughts?

http://www.thelocal.se/39694/20120315/ I hope there are survivors and that they find them soon, but it wont be easy with the bad weather and darkness. I wonder why it just disappeared like that? Probably had something to do with the bad weather. Maybe a CFIT? There's alot of mountains in that area.

Hello GuysTheres alot we dont know about eachother so i'd like to share this with you.I have had a year from hell TBH, this time last year i was diagnosed with bowel cancer which at 33 y/o was a smack in the face to say the least.I had the symptons for a year but the DR's thought it was everything but because of my age. I was plodding along working 7.30am till 9pm to make ends meet with pains in my gut, i lost 4 stone in weightand even hobbled up to A+E only to be sent home. It came to the point where my bosses where sending me home because i was grey and looking thin and i still had no idea untill i had a blood test done.I got a call from a panicking DR reffering me for …

I just saw the news item in the www.news.com.au about Max Payne 3. I really don't into shooters at all these days (albeit ARMA2, a military sim), but what do you make of Max Payne 3? Will you get to choose where you go or do you follow a 'path' like in COD?The trailer looks awesome with lots of eye candy! But I want something to hook me in to the story, not just a shooter and everything around me being enemy.I feel that the look of this is 'nice' but the 'action' may be too repetitive?Maybe I should just plan another flight from New York to Paris and sit up with a good book and a coffee if I want a good story? Even with the movie Dragon Tattoo I believe the books are exce…

The news article says it is a 737. I think the girl didn't 'get it'.It is definitely 100% 747-400! I bet an ER too.http://www.news.com.au/travel/australia/take-a-look-inside-a-qantas-flight-simulator/story-e6frfq89-1226301379101

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rn-iI7wX-YI didn't even know there was video for this! I was just checking on the progress of the investigation......Anyone know?EDIT Sorry just had to change the video. The first one was a 'ripped' version (a reupload).Anyway this is the original in its entirety.EDIT again: Here is a link to give an insight to how it happened. Looks as though the Autoland was confused, and or a jet's wake that was still at the end of the runway was to blame.http://avherald.com/h?article=445873f3/0000&opt=0

I encountered this issue when flying FSX but it applies to the real world so I'm posting it here. I may misunderstand the boundaries of airspace, but the situation confounds me.My flight starts at KTDF and ends at KFAY (both in NC). Eventually I request transition of Pope AFB's (KPOB) Class C airspace, which I receive. I am to notify the controller when I'm clear. While still in KPOB's Class C, I enter Simmons AAF's (KFBG) Class D airspace. While still in KPOB's and KFBG's airspace, I enter KFAY's Class C airspace. I'm now within three airspaces simultaneously. As I get closer to KFAY I leave KFBG's airspace and shortly after that I leave KPOB's airspace (notifying bo…

I pride myself on being up to date on the art of aircraft spotting, but I must say I found one that has me stumped. It happened on my vacation last week, and upon landing at KIAH at runway 26L and taxing to United terminal C, I found this gem of a 747-400 at the international terminal, and I have no idea who the operator is. I checked the list of carriers on Wikipedia's page, none of them match.Any ideas?

On the UK tv (Home channel) there is an advert for Aviva Home Insurance which features different people and what they have done to their houses. One of them, John Davis of Tile Hill, Coventry, has a spare room that he's turned into a very impressive flight simulator cockpit.I do mean impressive :oWith that level of commitment, he must surely be one of us! Come out, come out, wherever you are. :(

First of all, Happy Bithday AVSIM and thank you very much :-)I enjoyed reading that snapshot, clicking on the links and looking at how far things have progressed since then. One thing made me smile, an article with the sentence '.......as a FREEWARE alternative to the alarming proliferation of PAYWARE add-on's, which seem to be killing the hobby.' Killing the hobby :-) There always seems to be something that's killing the hobby, or heralding the end of simming as we know it. I believe a recent software release was clear proof of the end of all things FS within weeks :-)But here we are. Sure, some of our friends have departed, but the hobby still lives. As I sure it st…

We announced this tonight.QUOTE:This month is AVSIM's 15th anniversary and we have undertaken a look back at our hobby and our role over these many years. We are pretty proud of the contributions that AVSIM and its volunteer staff have made over the years and we think you will find this retrospective enlightening, if nothing else. AVSIM's Publisher, Tom Allensworth, takes a look back in part one of a multi-part series on our hobby and how AVSIM has "fit" in. You can read Tom's Part 1 Retrospective in his Blog, which you can read here. UNQUOTE

I asked this before but never got a response. This may be a problem with my browser (IE) or the Forum pages. When I am viewing the various pages and have scrolled down a bit and open a particular post to read it, and then use my back button, I am always taken to the very top of the page, rather to where I was before I opened the post. Gets very frustrated having to always scroll down the page again to find the place where I was. Can I fix this somehow? Thanks.

We have taken our existing RSS feeds system and put it on steroids (okay, okay, we upped its prune intake). We are in the midst of transforming our exisitng system into one that is going to add logic, intuitiveness and need I say, regularity, to your RSS'ing pleasure.Though this is not finished and is not made part of the menu system, you can see where we are heading with the RSS system by going here: http://forum.avsim.net/rss
