Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. Recently I was reading an article about AA possibly in the area of no return (bankruptcy). In the article it was talking about who would possibly buyout. Personally I think the airline is too big to fall. Northwest and Continental weren't quite the same size. And even though I am a die-hard Delta fan, I would not want one of America's favorite airlines to fall through the cracks.tell me what you think!

I was watching an aviation video on youtube and then I saw a link with a title that didn't have 'Flight Simulator' on it.In fact, without linking it directly, (posting links to youtube is not allowed here right?) here is the title.Stormy Airbus Cockpit Landing - Larnaca Intl [HD]Not only was it made to look like a 'real life cockpit' video, but there were no storms!!! No lightning even. No rain! You got it, yes, no storms! Sorry to repeat but this has to be bizarre! Then I watched this video and the aircraft lands at least half way down the runway where a go-around should have been initiated!I am seeing more and more of these 'idiot' videos pop up now. I am wondering, are …

  14. We have changed rules for posting screen shots in the AVSIM forums. Some restrictions were relaxed and others removed entirely. You can read the new rules here:http://forum.avsim.net/pages/screenshotsOne change that may be of interest to all is that we are now allowing commercial members to post to the screen shot forum images of their product releases. We have also provided some definitions that remove some confusion that has existed until now.

Crikey!Have you seen the kerfuffle going on in the MS Flight forums?Have a look, I'll wait........see?There is some anger there.A fair proportion (well, the based on the criticism) are blaming MS for bringing out a brand new Flight Simulation that isn't to the liking of a certain percentage of fans! The same group seem to be still bitter about the 'demise' of ACES and FSX... I assume these people never heard of the GFC? Tech Bubble 2.0? Basic marketing & capitalism 1.01?Anyway, we aren't alone. This ME! ME! ME! ME! attitude seems to be rife on teh intarwebs these days. Maybe it is people of a certain age? These quotes come from an article at Eurogamer over the weekend, …

New York Times article and video interview here.Aged 90 and married to his high-school sweethart for 69 years now, John Glenn just sold his Beech Baron last year, but still holds a valid pilot's license. When asked about how it felt to be sitting in the Mercury capsule atop the Atlas stack, he jokingly answered: How would you feel sitting on top of two million parts built on a government contract that went to the lowest bidder?Cheers,- jahman.PS: Now for a rememory of The Right Stuff, I'll fire-up the X-15 from Xtreme Prototypes and take her for a spin.

Some might be interested in this for those that don't already use it. AVSIM's forums support the use of this, and today it's only $0.99 on Amazon for android OS. I already have it and it makes the format very nice on phones. Enjoy!from lifehacker.com:http://lifehacker.com/5884752/daily-app-deals-get-tapatalk-forum-app-for-android-for-only-99-in-todays-app-dealsP.S. I am in NO way affiliated with this software, only giving our users a great deal link if they wanna use it. :)

learn something new every day....I missed this one somewhere for Windows Vista and Windows7....open the "start" button and type in "snipping" into the search bar without quotes. You'll see it find the snipping tool program. Click on it, you can now take a screen shot WITHOUT the need for 3rd party apps. Now to figure out a hotkey for it.Which is also easy using the right click, properties, then shortcut tab. Finally I get get rid of my third party apps for screen shots. :) I know, I know basic tech, but a nice little find for me. :)

  22. We have added some features today that we think you will find of use...First, if you look up at the right hand side of the main forum page (the Index page for those of you in the know), next to the "Find New Content" button is a new one entitled "Start New Topic". Upon clicking it, you will be given a choice of forums, and once selected, you can post a NEW topic to that forum without having to go to the forum itself. A little bit of a time saver we thought.Secondly, we have brought online a new SPAMMER detection and reporting system. We display, for those facinated by the underbelly of the Internet, the number of spam attempts that have been made. Interestingly, we instal…

A new satellite based precision landing system called "Ground Based Augmentation System" (GBAS), which is said to be more accurate then the ILS system is being implemented on Airberlin's 737's at Bremen airport (To start). According to the story, it will allow approaches at varying angles of attack, reducing noise pollution in some areas, As well as making Precision landings possible in mountainous areas, where ILS can't be used.Ground Based Augmentation System

Anyone see it? BBC the other night. If you can get BBC iPlayer it's still on. It's a very well done piece about Bomber Command during the war. It brought it home to me just how heroic those crews were. Puts 'warbirds' in a different light. Watch it if you can.

  25. For decades I have tried to master (imperfectly) all aspects of flight simulation. This past weekend I took part in a planned exchange of information, demonstration and mutual knowledge transfer between the greater flight simulation and the professional flight training educational communities in eastern Canada. It involved experts in VATSIM, computer flight hardware, FSX programming, flight control integration, flight training executives, airline pilots, professional flight simulation owners, operators and instructors along with invited flight students. The talent and experience in the room was incredible, and as far as I know one of the only encounters of its kind to date…
