Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

Just curious, I just bought a new SLR-ish camera and was wondering what everyone thought of the model choice? I picked up a Sony Alpha A-35 linked here:http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&partNumber=SLTA35My #1 priority was being able to shoot better stills at my son's soccer games, which of course means speed. All the rest is icing on the cake to me. They DO have a higher-end model in the A55, but this was within my budget. Shutter speed is up to 7FPS in medium res jpg images, with a class-10 SD card.So anyone else with a thought? Good choice?(and yes, I considered the EOS Rebel 3Ti's, but the…

Hi everyone, I had stumbled upon a good article on crosswind landings on CNN.com I wanted to share with you.Be sure to see the youtube video referenced in the article, it must be one of the best airport landing videos I've ever seen, and reminds me of my replay sessions in FSX where I scrutinize my flares!http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/11/travel/plane-landing-crosswinds/index.html?iref=allsearch

Hey guys, with much interest I followed the topic about a new discovery series "Flying Wild Alaska" some time back. Too bad it wasn´t available here in Germany back then. But when I today switched in, I didn´t belive my eyes: They finally made it and aired the fist episodes here in Germany. I watched the second episode and I this evening should come the next one. I really like this series, it really gives nice and in depth insight on the avation business.

Been an age since I last posted on here...Just came across this>> http://youtu.be/M3mZu8bqAHw during one of my random Youtube trawls. Now, I'm not going to pretend to be an expert in flying, but I have spent enough time reading sites such as Airliners.net and flying this same approach in FSX (I also possess decent common sense) to know that what the PNF is doing (38secs in) is, to put it bluntly, stupid. Surely flying an approach (ANY approach), especially one as challenging as LOWI requires ALL attention to be focused on the job at hand?Seriously, I'm not a stick-in-the-mud and I appreciate that photos from the flight deck are taken from a unique perspective BU…

  13. In February, 2002, AVSIM established the Richard Harvey Endowed Scholarship at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. This scholarship was created to memorialize Richard, who was the lead programmer and advocate of the FLY! flight simulator series. Its purpose is to financially aid a deserving student who seeks a career in aviation. The scholarship is awarded to one ERAU student each fall and is now endowed; that is, it is self perpetuating. We are very proud of the community and its donations to this worthy cause in memory of one of one of the most memorable individuals to ever participate in our hobby. We are also very appreciative to the companies in our hobby who have …

...how much "ProFlightSimulator" looks like FSX? This>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZZVxz2w9ZQ is one of their Youtube videos featuring a CRJ700 that bears an uncanny (identical) resemblance to the CRJ700 in FSX. Their advert/app on the Chrome webstore is even better, especially when it links to their webpage and you see actual in-game shots. The sad/worrying thing is, people have been duped into paying for Flightgear by footage from FSX. How MS hasn't slapped a lawsuit across their faces I will never know...

Just to be fair, Google, Amazon, Facebook and Apple are getting pretty evil these days too (just to demonstrate I'm not picking on Microsoft just to be picking on Microsoft) but I never thought MicrosoftFT would be going straight back to its old evil ways. I thought they changed... haha...PC is what MADE Microsoft what it is today, and now after all this time this is how MicrosoftFT gives thanks to its customer base by shafting us? (more on this later below... I'll explain in a second)There parallels are astounding.....Reading PMDG's rsrandazzo opinion on FLIGHT made me really dissappointed in both FLIGHT and Microsoft after confirming the suspicions that I've had all al…
