American to cut 13,000 workersBREAKING NEWS: American Airlines just announced it will cut 13,000 workers across various workgroups. Here is the full e-mail from the carrier. This morning Tom Horton, Bev Goulet and Jeff Brundage met with union leaders to outline American’s business plan and the necessary steps we must take to secure our future success. A difficult outcome of the restructuring process is our need to reduce our workforce to better align with a more efficient operation. The business plan and our proposals, which are necessary for long-term success, outline a reduction of approximately 13,000 employees across our company. The company will share proposals with th…

It is not only Flight Simulator that got it, now they are going for Windows too.http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-20116005-75/microsoft-defends-its-windows-8-metro-start-screen/They say in other link that we will still have a choice which better be one or the other and at one time deal IMHO. If everytime I reboot I have to choose I won't be happy.I am starting to think that they really believe we all shutdown our PC desktops/laptops for good in some sore of new exodus and went completely flat out with the phone gaugets as a replacement. Someone just got to be kidding me.Cheers,MAB

If there are any other Shuttle fans out there, Roger Boisjoly has passed on. For those who don't know the name, he was an engineer for Morton-Thiokol, who were the contractors for the Solid Rocket Boosters. He noticed on post-flight analysises of several missions prior to Challenger that the SRB O-rings were coming dangerously close to failing. With dire consequences, Thiokol basically ignored him. They did set up a task force, but without any authority or support from leadership. He also voiced concern about the low temps the night before 51-L. A moment of silence for a man who put safety first, when almost no one else did that day.

Governments through regulation and employment (Industrial Relations) regulation are now disabling the edge airlines like QANTAS used to have. Jetstar is the new offshoot of Qantas able to pay its staff less but now with new laws in the pipeline even this is becoming doomed.http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/aviation/law-changes-threaten-qantas-may-force-sale-of-jetstar-joyce/story-e6frg95x-1226263480773QANTAS chief executive Alan Joyce has warned the airline group may consider selling its low-cost carrier Jetstar if legislation to keep maintenance in Australia and proposed restrictions on using foreign cabin crew is successful. Mr Joyce told a Senate committee in C…

The flightsim community needs a good magazine. A magazine with some red meat in it instead of pretty pictures and endless repetitive ads. Aerodynamics, navigation, avionics, history, engines, structures, etc.I've had it with Computer Pilot and PC Aviator and I'm not buying them anymore. 10 pages of the same old ads issue after issue and wishy washy reviews.Anybody know of a good flight sim magazine with some real content?

Just a thought, but, JRollon released a maybe not perfect but, close enough version of the Crj-200 regional jet. I'm a long time FS user and was very disappointed to see this aircraft was released exclusively for X-plane. Myself along with I'm sure quite a bit of other regional jet fans would much like to see a new CRJ. It goes without saying that the Wilco version doesn't even come close. The regional's serve as a stepping stone to all the larger "mainline" aircraft and are also great jet transition aircraft. I could see that aircraft in particular bringing in huge revenue to whomever attempts it. Especially if they develop it well like the NGX or the leonardoSH Ma…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-11432319Video from a couple of years back I hadn't seen before. Does anyone know if these are Ekranoplan-type ground-effect craft or true aircraft? They look too high for GE, but I'm not sure.

Alas, too late for Mr. Napoleon...News: St. Helena Airport web, UPI article, BBC article.Google Maps (There doesn't seem to be a flat spot long enough to place a runway. Any guesses as to where?) Why does this sound like a gravel over-run? And will take-off rely on a "bungee-assisted acceleration system"? :LMAO:Airport and Scenery developpers...: Ready, set, go!Cheers,- jahman.

Hey everyone,Yesterday, I decided finally to shell out some money for a lesson up in a 152. (I've only got 8 hours)We took off from my local Delta field, KRYY. We headed up to a another close-by non-towered field to practice touch and go's. I really liked my instructor. He was very honest and didn't sugarcoat things. If I messed up something, he'd tell me straight up rather than let me slip by pulling off stuff that wouldn't pass if I were taking a checkride. We did patterns up at the untowered fie;ld for about 45 minutes. My first pattern was *awful*. It is runway 1 and winds were 330@11 gusting 15. (Give me some slack!) I have this issue as to where I believe throttle…

Hey!Does the CRJ-200 provide TOC, TOD calculations? The reason I'am asking is because i watched a tutorial for the CRJ-200: and he calculated the TOD on his own (from 3:15 into the clip). I would like the airplane to do so for me.So does anyone know if the CRJ-200 FMS calculates live TOC, TOD depending on speed or halt of climb?Viktor Fransson

After every flight, UPS pilots fill out a form, called a 'gripe sheet,' which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight.Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual maintenance complaints (i.e., problems) submitted by UPS pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded by maintenance engineers (marked with an S).By the way, UPS is the only major airline that has never, ever, had an accident........P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.*P…
