Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

How many people here also enjoy combat flight simulations in addition to the civilian sims that Avsim perhaps caters more to?I've seen various comments over time on various forums where some people seem to enjoy one to the exclusion of the other. At one end of the spectrum I've read some combat flight simulation enthusiasts declare that the likes of MSFS is boring and pointless because you can't shoot things down or blow stuff up. At the other end of the spectrum I've seen civilian flight simulation enthusiasts who seem to think combat flight simulators are a lowbrow persuit. I always found these arguments to be quite curious.Consider this:The simmer who can fly his PMDG …

Got this from a friend whose son flys for UAL. Thought some here might be interested --- Subject: Boeing 787 Features & Differences Hi All, I just completed the first pilot training class on the 787 at United Airlines, an airplane which is destined to replace the 767 and live for many years after I retire. Here's what I've learned in 787 training so far. By the way, last night we passed our MV (maneuvers validation) check ride, with emergency after emergency, and the FAA observing. Tonight was our LOE (line-oriented evaluation), again with FAA - this time 2 FAA observers. It's 0200 and I just got back to the hotel and poured a well-earned glass of wine to c…

  3. Hi everyone, This is my first post on AVSIM, but I've been reading around on the forums a lot anonymously :D My name is Howard Yang, and I'm currently a Sophmore in high school. As an assignment for English class, I am to choose a career I would want, and write a twelve page paper on it . I have chosen a pilot as my career path, and as hoping if any commercial pilots on these forums (I've already seen at leas a dozen) could help me with the interview section. This would only take thirty minutes of your time at most, and can be done on this forum, through, email or any other method you prefer. Alternatively, if anyone had considered this career path as well but cho…

  8. Just wanted to share with the community a video I created flying the L-39C Albatross by Lotus Sims. It is pretty long, however, it gives you a great idea of what it is like to share a cockpit from this beautiful plane. You can reach me at DigitalThemePark TeamSpeak 3 server: ts3.digitalthemepark.org . I hope you enjoy it! Can a moderator delete this post, I seemed to have double posted by accident, thank you.

Hi all,It is around 6 years since I have flown on line in FSX, and that was using Squawkbox. So, I have never actually connected FSX online, using it's Multiplayer functionality, which is how I am guessing the AVSIM online experience works? So I'm fine with TS, connecting to TS, setting up mics etc, but what details are required to go into the Mutiplayer fields within FSX ?Or if I've misunderstood, could someone set me right on how to get on line with AVSIM; not in terms of the TS side, but in terms of the physical FSX side? Many thanks,Stick

I threw this topic in A2A forums, but decided to take it here also, as we may get a little different perspective here. So, my question, or pondering is this (direct quote of my own post from A2A-forums): After reading tons of stuff of old piston engined planes of the history (and flown in simulators of course!), mostly from the WW2 era, I've sometimes wondered, how much better piston engined planes we would be manufacturing today, if that would be powerplant of the choice even during modern times. There are of course many factors considering the developement of the aircraft, both civilian and military. Powerplant is only one of them, but light alloys, electronics …

Just read this TSB report: http://www.tsb.gc.ca...12/a11f0012.asp To sum it up, the First Officer took a controlled rest but didn't follow procedure to notify the head flight attendant, he overslept the allowed 40 minutes. He just woke up from his nap when TCAS picked up an opposite–direction United States Air Force Boeing C–17 at FL340 (1000' below). The Captain was monitoring the TCAS, The FO mistook the planet Venus for the C-17 aircraft coming at them from above. FO reacted by pushing the aircraft into a dive injuring 16 on board. Here is a YouTube video on-board the flight after the incident showing damage to the panels, at the time the passengers thought it…

Just wanted to note here that when setting up TS with the Avsim stuff yesterday, I was agreeably surprised to be welcomed by a very pleasant lady dropping into the channel the moment I connected, to ensure all was okay. I'm fairly familiar with TS, so it wasn't actually necessary, but the gesture was certainly appreciated. Didn't catch her nickname, but she was immensely helpful and welcoming, so if anyone is a bit unsure about all that TS stuff, you can be assured that a warm welcome awaits you. Al

If you are not a reader of the daily aviation news feeds that appear on the front page side bar and can be found here in the forums, you are missing gems like this. We can't make this stuff up! So, for your reading pleasure: QUOTE: Aviation historians and warbird enthusiasts are drooling at the discovery of at least 12 and maybe as many 20 perfectly preserved brand new Spitfire Mark 14s buried in Myanmar, which was formerly Burma. Thanks to the tenacity (and apparently considerable diplomatic skills) of British farmer David Cundall, the lost squadron of pristine fighters was found where they were buried by U.S. troops in 1945 when it became clear they wouldn't be …

  18. Tonight we changed over the signature image maximum sizes to 500 pixels wide by 70 pixels high. We have also turned on TAGGING. What's that? Well, when you now post a new topic, you will have the ability to "tag" the message. Tags are lower case words that appear in the topic header. The purpose of these tags is to allow searches on those tags by simply clicking on the tag. For instance, if you put fs9 as a tag, and others use that fs9 tag, when another user comes along and click on the tag fs9, every post that has the same tag will be shown. We are going to allow users to create their own tags, and it does have room for abuse. If tagging is abused, we will quickl…

  24. ...the 'unsinkable' Titanic slipped to her watery grave with 1520 souls lost! I was up at that very hour this morning, and felt a strong shudder crawl down my spine. I said a prayer for those souls lost. I always thought though, what if...what if you could have gone back, from a future moment, and been able to convince the captain of the danger the ship was facing....and being successful with that, RMS Titanic would finally make her New York port-of-call. You would have saved those 1520 lives. Yes...but time is a river, that flows, has physical traits like currents, eddies, back-flows... What if by having saved those 1520 souls...and the very ship itself…
