I am getting the impression that many on here load up gobs of scenery and complex jumbo jets that they don't even know how to fly other than p throttling up & pulling back, then take off, while fixating on their frame rate monitor in an attempt to see if their newest mod fixed previous stutters or other graphic inconsistencies. Not saying that's what really happens, but the holy grail seems to be some smooth system that will run all orbx scenery with perfect clouds and plowing tractors in fields with busy freeways outside of a big city with plenty of AI traffic nearby VFR in a complex airliner that was designed to fly IFR in class A airspace. I fly purely for t…

This one happened in my home town. A G-IV went off the end of RWY 11 on takeoff. 7 souls aboard, no survivors. They found the recorders and they seem to have good data. They are analyzing them now and information is coming out slowly. Weather was clear, the pilots were experienced, but the plane never left the ground. Someone said "Rotate," but shortly after that brakes and reversers were applied. The plane skidded through an antenna and a chain-link fence and stopped abruptly in a stream bed, where it exploded and burned. I've been Googling "Hanscom crash" to get updates

A restart of the discussion regarding MS' sale of the FS License... Let me add some clarity here folks... Remember that FLIGHT was rolled up in May of 2012... In the latter half of 2012, AVSIM was made aware of efforts to sell licenses by Microsoft for its FS product line (note the all inclusive "FS", not specifically FS9, FSX, FLIGHT, etc.). AVSIM subsequently participated in meetings and discussions with a couple of the teams in 2012 and throughout 2013. We understood from the outset that MS was looking to issue a license to multiple teams. The original terms of the sale of the license were pretty steep thereby ruling out any single participant from the FS commerci…

Now that I've been alerted by the news about a possible re-birth of MS FLIGHT, now that I found in combat flight simulators most of what I was never able to find in the civil flightsims I used ( starting with real good flight dynamics ), here's the news, by the hands of AEROSOFT of a project that, not being new ( it's been around for at least 3 yrs I believe ) looks promising: Jet Thunder - Falklands and here: http://www.thunder-works.com/news.htm

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2656884/Pictured-First-look-cracks-tail-Virgin-plane-flew-13-times-engineers-noticed-damage.html Images released have revealed the extent of the damage to the tail of a Virgin plane that flew 13 times after a turbulence event on approach to Sydney. The frightening pictures show gaping cracks along the lower left and lower right tailplane of the 68 passenger ATR72 turbo-prop, which was removed from service while an inspection was carried out but put back in the air the next day. An initial investigation by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) found damage 'consistent with an overstress condition' was likely to have occ…

Hey all! Was reading a little while ago about aviation in general when I stumbled upon a couple of lines that mentioned that there are a handful of people who are certified to fly absolutely any aircraft they find themselves in. I can't for the life of my find any other information, nor can I actually find the source. For my peace of mind, does anyone have any further information about this, or am I day-dreaming about things again? Regards, Aamir

This just happened here on Wednesday the 11th shortly after lunchtime. http://www.wcvb.com/news/26441110#!Xv5Nr It appears to be a Cirrus with the chute deployed. The airframe looks to be in good shape. The crash site is in the woods, about halfway between the extended lines of the two runways at Hanscom. This is about 4 miles from Hanscom Field, where the Gulfstream IV went down 12 days ago.

I've only had one experience in attempting to fly on my own, that wound up me going back home instead, so I was wondering, my next attempt will take me from JFK to Heathrow, and I was curious about both airports how long I should expect to be sitting in line to take off, or taxi?

This video has some slightly rude television language but I hope the issue is important enough that some leeway is given. As it stands right now, the groundwork is being set for a huge change in the way the internet works, and the future doesn't look good for innovation and competition when established companies and sites with deeper pockets can pay for faster internet access than less well heeled competitors. The precedents are not good: https://www.eff.org/issues/net-neutrality The fox's are in the hen-house now, and people need to speak up!!! (assuming for a second that the game is not so rigged that nothing we can do matters) John Oliver frames the issue …

I have been looking over the various rating for messages lately and have decided to remove the "like / dislike" ratings entirely. I have seen some pretty infantile uses of them and have even had to suspend folks for misuse and abuse of them. They are now gone. The agree / disagree remain and I have added a "pondering this" for those that need to take time and think about the subject being discussed.

I've recently posted my disgruntled first experience with flying (I never got to my destination, had to cancel my trip outright). This time we are going with a different airline hoping for better results. My question is who do you fly with? I could also add who you avoid?

I have read that certain historical aviation events are embedded in the FSX software. Like the first flight at Kittyhawk, NC. Is there a list of such events that have been discovered or is this just a myth. Like I was wondering if any of the Space Shuttle or Apollo launches could be watched if the correct date and time is used?

I few minutes ago I posted a remembrance and a thank you to the soldiers who came to save us in June 1944 and despite my request to the mods it has been moved to hangar chat, a forum that I never visit. You guys are shooting very fast. A pity you were not part of the invasion forces on June 6, 1944 Thank you Jean-Jacques Struyf

AVSIM has been working well for some time now - although slowly at times. However in the UK, it has again started not connecting between 8 and 9 UTC in the morning. Are others noticing this?
