Interesting facts on geography that we may have not thought about. Even more intriguing since we fly around the world. 1. Portland, Oregon, where it rarely snows, is about 130 miles farther north than Toronto, and over 200 miles farther north than Boston. 2. On France’s southern Mediterranean coast, Cannes, the sunny summer playground of the rich, which is sometimes incorrectly called ‘tropical’, is about 10 miles farther north than Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 3. Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, Cape Town, and Sydney are each thousands of miles apart and are known for having unusually pleasant year-round climates, and they are all almost identical distances from the Equator. …

This occured yesterday in Florida, Brevard County to be exact. There is some sort of irony here and it is a bit funny since no one was killed or seriously hurt. http://www.wftv.com/news/news/local/plane-crashes-titusville-business/ngcpW/?ecmp=social_20140710_27607876

I bought the justflight dc-6 shortly after it was released. I added the patches a couple weeks later. My version (download) has had consistent problems with the autopilot not working correctly or not at all. In addition after multiple adjustments and flying configs the aircrafts elevator and trim tab are totally unstable. The aircraft flutters in pitch and it continually gets worse over a few minutes to that point where no matter how much up elevator and up trim the aircraft settles into a increasing down angle dive. I have uninstalled, re-installed no results. I tried the DEMO version after buying the full version to see if maybe it was something my download. No results. …

How do Aus\New Zealanders define their yearly months in comparison to the north? When it's December in the USA/Europe in time for Christmas do Aussies celebrate this holiday in the summer or do they wait until winter is actually in their area? Do they call a summer month June or do they stick with the northern standard and June for them is a winter month? It's crazy to think the USA\Europe set the standard around the world even the southern hemisphere to a point where June, July, and August is known locally as winter time and December is known as the summer. That would seem odd to accept Santa with snow when your whole country is experiencing summer. You'd think outs…

Hello all, In the next year or so I may choose to take on an additional job on the weekends. Monday to Fridays I currently work as an I.T. Site Admin but have always had a passion for aviation as well. I thought I could take advantage of that passion and try to look for jobs at a GA airport. I'm just starting to read up on what type of jobs may be available, but I also wanted to ask here to see if anyone had any suggestions or experience working part-time at airports. Any feedback you could provide would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!

I can't understand a part of boeing's autothrottle system. Apparently the Asiana pilots couldn't as well, considering the 777 crash was caused by this misunderstanding. The problem lies in the 777's a/t HOLD mode, which is followed by IDLE mode. The 737 has the similar ARM, THR HLD, and RETARD modes. In these modes the servos are disconnected from the engines and the pilot can manually set thrust. Why? What is the purpose of disconnecting the servos? Thank you.

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - A freight train on its way to Renton derailed in western Montana, sending three cars carrying aircraft components down a steep embankment and into the Clark Fork River. http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Train-to-Renton-derails-in-western-Montana-3-cars-in-river-265851031.html?abc=lqwy33tq

When a commercial airline arrives at the gate, and before the flight deck crew leaves the flight deck, what systems are left "on" and what systems are turned "off" (along with the engines of course)? I read from somewhere that the flight deck is not completely "cold and dark" when the plane is at the gate waiting for the outbound crew to board. Is this true? ERA

There is currently a hurricane hitting the east coast of the US, making landfall on the North Carolina coast. Weather radar shows that it's over Cape Hatteras area now. Hopefully it will not be too bad, and there will not be any loss of life or property. If you have a realistic weather program, this might be an opportune time to fly in extreme weather. I have "simulate hurricanes" checked in ASN, maxed out all the upper limits to winds, and it's a wild ride. Not quite what I imagined, but still quite intense, and ASN conditions seem to match the Hatteras/Mitchell METAR report, updated 23 minutes ago. Winds are maxed at 42kts. One gust while you are taxiing and you co…

I love tearing up money on this hobby! For most of mt life I have mainly spent money on Beer and women and although this bought me much enjoyment there was still something missing! And then I found FSX. After quickly spending a small fortune to get the platform to an acceptable level of immersion I now allow myself $50 a week toward an add on. Im already browsing the catalog for next weeks addition :Waiting: Whats your allowance?

Hi there, You may recall that there was once a great flight simming magazine called "Computer Pilot" which I believe was published by PC Aviator. PC Aviator sold it to a European company and everything went downhill from there. At the beginning of the year I took out a subscription to receive a regular hard copy of the magazine. To date none have been forthcoming. Looking on their website http://web.computerpilot.com/ it seems that there is no recent magazine material. The only thing that is still working and fully up to date is the subscription merchandising part. It seems that they eagerly take your money but don't deliver the product, either physically or via …

I have an odd endeavor and I'm looking for an airport chart with the runways (or part of them) that look a bit like the letter N. This is more artistic than anything else, so I can crop/zoom/rotate to get this appearance. I've run through my list with a few marginal options, but this only was about 8-10 major hubs in the USA that I could produce off my memory. Would anyone be able to think of an airport with a runway layout like this? Thanks for any help.
