I am trying to mimic a real world tubeliner flight from KSFO to KLAX, so I looked it up on flightaware.com and found this KSFO PORTE5 AVE SADDE6 KLAX Let me know if this is correct. PORTE5 = SID AVE = AIRWAY SADDE6 = STAR I am trying to figure out how to input this into the FMS on the 777. Not sure how to select the runway or or transition for the SID/STAR so that it properly puts them into my FMC correctly so I can fly the route.

...I was 6 years old. Many of you, fellow simmers of my generation, are maybe close relatives of those who landed in Normandy this June 6, 1944. Today my thoughts are going to those soldiers who gave their lives during that day and during the many following months in order to free us from H#tler's n@zi domination. Thank you and rest in peace. Jean-Jacques Mods, if possible, please leave this post here. Due to my wife's handicap I have limited time to spend on Avsim (otherwise I would not be able to fly  ) and this is the forum where I meet most of my fellow simmers.

  5. A long time ago I read the book and when the sim came out by Spectrum Holobyte I purchased it. I had a lot of fun planning and executing missions but eventually with newer computers and operating systems the program just would not load and by now I have lost the discs. The graphics were pretty crude but the flight model was excellent. I got pretty good at landing the intruder on a carrier deck and even then the carrier was moving and it was tricky to line up to land on the angled deck. I never mastered landing the F-4 Phantom so I used the auto land function. So, anyway I have wondered for several years why no one has updated and re-released this sim, especially n…

  6. I do not want to be the harbinger of sad news after the bringing the story of that USAF B1B pilot this morning. Please pray for the soul of a young lady, aged 24, who inadvertently walked into a spinning propeller somewhere in the USA and as a result, sadly passed away. Out of respect I will not state where. Please say a prayer for her soul and for the comfort of those she left behind. This is a salute to the real-world professionals who work there on the airfields of the world, as well as contribute to our hobby, here, and brings home the dangers lurking in their real-world environments. May her soul R.I.P.

  8. Just heard on the BBC that during a flight in the USA, the FA put an announcement asking for anyone with flying experience.A retired ex-USAF pilot on board went up front, where he found the Capt had collapsed with a heart attack. The Female FO asked the USAF pilot if he had any experience of flying, and told him to shut the cockpit door. After easing the Capt out, he helped the FO make an emergency landing with a 737, something that she had never done before, at an airport in Omaha. Incredible.

Hi all, Just thought I'd share something some of you may (or may not!) find interesting. I know that on this website a lot of simmers refer to airline pilots as if they're godlike, or somehow extra special. I see it a lot, especially in topics which discuss whether or not you could realistically fly an aircraft and bring it down. The topic generally veers towards the notion that airline pilots are somehow better normal people in some way other than simply having training! Four of my good friends are airline pilots. They are all in their late twenties. One of them flies the 777-300ER for Cathay Pacific (based in Hong Kong), another friend is based in Dublin and…

  13. First of all, I couldn't find any sub forum to post this topic and posted here. Of admins can move this topic to appropriate place, it will be appreciated. So, I just purchased EFB. I did all installing and setup by the manual. I dont have any network setup so I installed everything on the same machine. After I start up the DataProvider, I launch the Display Unit. And the only thing display unit says, is connecting to Dataprovider. I waited for more then 20 minutes, nothing happened. Thanks.

  14. Hi, I am new to Infinite Flight and I enjoy it a lot; Alas, not only am I not a pilot in real life, I never even tried flying anything bigger than a Cessna on flight simulators, so I would need some help. Could you please help me land a Boeing 717-200 safely? Assuming no wind and a mid-day landing, At what altitude, distance and speed should I begin the approach to arrive roughly at the beginning of the ILS "corridor" (the red squares) indicated on the radar? When and how much should I engage the spoilers and flaps? At what speed/altitude/distance should I lower the gear? What is the correct landing speed? Lastly, how much runway distance do …

  15. Say a Constellation or DC-6. The pilots moved all the controls (throttle, yoke, cowl, rudder, etc). How? I mean were they simply moving hydraulic control valves then oil psi moved all the actual plane parts with rams? Where there actual cables used? I tried Google searching but come up pretty empty for any good pictures that show how old airliners worked or put together for flight control systems?

I would like to know how long pilots should spend on pre flight before scheduled push back. I read pilots usually step in the plane an hour before push back time. If there are any real pilots who can give a rough estimate of the hour before pushback. I would like to know because after I finished my side a the prefligth procedure (using fs2crew as well) I usually have around 15-20 mins of doing nothing but contacting ATC. 40 mins until pushback - pre flight start 20 mins start boarding - etc.

I was finishing a flight on Vatsim yesterday evening and while doing so, the controller responsible for my plane gave me clearance for a visual approach for the runway I was to be landing on. I'm still relatively new to aviation and had never flown into the airport in question (KMIA) so I asked if I could get the ILS. The controller was friendly and flexible, he immediately cancelled my visual clearance and gave me the go-ahead for the ILS. I completed the approach and landed the plane without issue. While thinking about my flight a few hours later, a thought/question occurred to me (and I pose this question in a general/broad avation setting, not specific to flight-s…

You know, until I saw this, it never occurred to me to wonder how the disparity between what a person is seeing and how their body reacts might be a problem for some when encountering the Oculus. I suspect even experienced flight simmers might get vertigo during wild maneuvers in 3D space. A new illness is born? http://youtu.be/vYihtrqtkWM

Hello guys, before starting with the presentation of our project I better introduce myself. My name is André and I am one of the owners of the future browsergame called AviationSIM. Hopefully I am allowed to post this here. At least nobody answered to our mails for one month. As the name already indicates it is an aviation related browsergame. So in general it is up to you to lead your own airline. But we also offer you the opportunity to create and manage other service providers such as groundhandling, catering or maintenancefirms.Any of these different companies are interdependent. No airline can exist without a maintenancefirm as every airplane needs to be checked regula…
