I just came across this really great video of a guy training for his PPL. His instructor is a former Naval Aviator and Airline Pilot with 36 years flying experience so it's safe to assume he knows his stuff ;) Definitely worth watching. Lots of great tips, but I came across a line that I just had to post here. They're up in the air and the instructor asks the trainee about his flying experience. Trainee: 'I play the simulator a lot. I don't know what that's worth' Instructor: 'It's worth a lot. It is worth a lot. These kids that come out and have been flying simulators for 4 or 5 years. They can fly the airplane day one.' https://youtu.be/Bst5bFSq…

Hello fellow simmers, as ORBX Products are reduced drastically and I really wanna up my sim I‘m kind of not decided on what I should buy. About me; I fly big jets only, no GA aircraft. As I‘m from Germany I fly mainly in Europe but at the moment I prefer long hauls to destinations all over the world. Now I already have FTX Global. And there is vector and Europe LC. From my understandings vector displays coastlines and stuff like streets more accurately? Then LC Europe ensures that I get more accurate mesh (Alps for example?). Do I get that right? Now there are also the regions like ORBX Germany South. In case I would have Vector and OpenLC Europe, what would b…

Matthew's Otter story reminded me that most of us have had some scary or worrisome flight incidents. Most of us come out of them better pilots. I wrote up this flying incident I had. Kinda scary for a while. It was published in the September 1995 issue of Private Pilot. JUST AVERAGE The strobe reflection from the clouds was lighting up the cockpit, and I couldn’t see the ground. I was a 70 hour private pilot building time for my commercial certificate. I was suddenly alone, at night, in IFR conditions. I’d picked up the keys to the Cherokee during my lunch hour. This evening I was going to get in another hour of solo night flying. It was dusk when I…

I have revived an old a thread over at Hi-Fi Technologies concerning a couple polar flights I did over the last couple weeks. There is an issue that I experienced with the weather getting very erratic near the north pole (>85N), so I did a search and posted in this old thread that describes the exact same issue I was experiencing. https://hifisimtech.com/forums/showthread.php?5616-Polar-operations I fly in P3Dv4 using the PMDG 777LR or the PMDG 744 when conducting polar flights. I do not use time acceleration and always use live weather using ASP4/ASCA (default wind settings). Its not very often that I fly over or near the north pole, but in the past I never had t…

At the moment on P3D I use Orbx Vector and lights. The one massive problem I have is shimmering distant lights. I've Googled and tried everything to get rid of it to no avail. So given the hefty price tag does it mean Black Marble comes with a plethora of optimisation options which can eliminate or vastly reduce the shimmering issue? Or is it still a problem with this add on?

Hey folks! Does anybody have a Beechcraft Premier I A AFM,OM or a POH and would be so kind to share it?I couldn't find anything on the web and I assume you have to be owner or a operator of one, to be able to access all the technical information on Hawker's site. I'll appreciate anything available.

Hello, I'm studying the AFH from FAA at the moment (yes, for simming purposes, I am that weird... Although I plan on doing a PPL in Europe in a few years :) ). There's this thing that keeps bugging me. I'm currently reading the chapter "Ground reference maneuvers" which is a lot about wind corrections. But the book anticipates that I have perfect knowledge of surrounding wind speed and direction at all times. Also the wind usually is either perpendicular or parallel to the airplane. How do GA pilots deal with this in the real world? Usually the wind isn't exactly perpendicular or parallel, its speed and direction changes, there are gusts etc... And when I …

I recently bought the awesome Majestic Dash 8 Q400 and I am now, for the first time, trying to do real life flights with it (flying domestic flights for the company Wideroe in Norway). While looking for flights someone pointed me to Flightradar24 and how you can find real world flights there. I found some nice flights for the LN-WDF Q400 that I can do which are done with the very same plane in real life. I also found out that you can see how the plane flew each flights. And then I noticed something. Afaik a lot of simmers who are a bit serious about it all, use various flight plannees to get the most realistic plans into their sims. PFPX, Simbrief, maybe ProATC, what…

Hi Richard, ORBX FTX Global Vector does have a significant impact on performance. However, as always, it depends on where you fly and what features you choose to have active. There is a worthy alternative: Black Marble Base/Vector. When you have time I recommend you take a look at what it has to offer. Also there are compatibility patches with ORBX now available. I installed FTX Germany South last night and enjoyed a spell-blindingly wonderful evening flight out of Fussen and performance remained fluid throughout. I lock at 31fps with VSync ON so rarely look at the raw fluctuating frame rate counter these days. On this occasion I was curious and it was up in th…

Before someone says to go search for other threads, I want to preface this question by saying I've read MANY already and still am super confused. Like many others, I own ORBX global and vector and also UTXv2. I've read how there all compatible and can work together. My question is pretty simple. If I went with ONLY the black marble products, why would I need to install ORBX or UTX ? Exactly what would putting those products on give me to enhance the sim ? Again, I know this has been asked so please bare with me. Thanks, Tony

Which is more realistic? I currnetly have my panel state on my PMDG planes set to Short Turn Around which has the plane sitting at the gate with the APU's already running. What is more realistic, to have the plane start on GPU or APU while sitting at the gate? I would like to know also should the plane connect to GPU or APU once it has landed and taxi'd to it's gate? What's the difference between the short turn around and long turn around panel states in the PMDG planes?

A U.S. Navy pilot drew obscene pictures in the sky over Washington state on Thursday, CBS affiliate KREM-TV reports. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/us-navy-pilot-draws-obscene-pictures-washington-state/ Viewers contacted the station after watching a plane draw what appeared to be crude depictions of a penis in the sky in Okanogan County, which borders Canada. The station posted pictures of the drawings on its website. (Warning: Some viewers may find the pictures offensive.) A mother in Okanogan, Washington, told the station she was upset because she might have to explain the drawings to her kids. The Navy told the station that the aircraft involved was based …

**Posted from the Steam News Announcement: http://steamcommunity.com/games/389280/announcements/detail/2922136221155131168* Aloha everyone, It feels like a while since I updated you, and I want to take a moment to apologize for the lack of communication about what we’ve been working on for Flight Sim World. The response to the rate of progress within our simulator has not escaped the attention of the development team. We’d like to take a moment to address some of the things we've read. When we first released in Early Access, we had a lot lined up, which contributed to a rapid update schedule. With the feedback you gave us; we outlined a hit list of bugs to squ…

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here who celebrates Thanksgiving on this day. I would like to share with you an old Thanksgiving story; one of the collections of stories about my boyhood that I wrote for my grandchildren. It happened long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away.. Thanksgiving Guests It was about a week before Thanksgiving. World War II was raging, and the USO took out ads in both the Call Bulletin and the Examiner asking people to invite servicemen to their homes for the holiday. Mom called the USO and asked them to send over two. By Noon on Thanksgiving day all of the family had arrived at the house. Grandma was there. So was Cousi…

Hello All, Can someone explain how to fly the final approach for landing at SAMOS ? After flying the STAR, and following the initial approach from and to the SAM VOR, It says to fly a course of 358 to the SAM VOR at MDA, whereas the runways are 09/27. Do you just execute a normal visual approach after SAM ? Charts for reference : http://vau.aero/navdb/chart/LGSM.pdf Cheers

I'm still not sure if I'm doing things correctly when landing. Could someone tell me if I'm missing something or have my procedures out of order. This is the order that I do things when landing the 777. Have my back wheels touch the ground and then hit F2 to turn on the reversers Flare nose up, and then have f Wait until the plane slows down to around 80knots, and then tap the brakes to disarm the autobrakes Press the brakes until my plane slows down to around 30 knots disarm the spoilers Flaps 0 Taxi back to gate set parking brakes set chocks turn off all lights except for NAV lights start APU cutoff…

1:22 into video we see the AP screen pilots will see on their phone in the air. 1:36 "link up your tablet to some sort of internet connection ... and you'll get the updated prices for that day" So my dumb question is how does the AP know real time aviation fuel prices around America, or dare I hope the planet? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJra8GHKtHo
