Saturday night I was playing taxi, taking my wife and son to Manchester to meet wife's younger sister at the train station. They were going to watch an allegedly popular musical group known as STEPS who were performing a concert at the Manchester Arena . My Dad came along to keep me company for the 3 hours or so killing time. We decided to nip down to EGCC, specifically the Airport Hotel - the well known pub next to the threshold of 23R. The pub's beer garden adjoins EGCC's perimeter fence. Ideal for the spectacle of heavy & not so heavy metal taking off in close proximity if the winds are favourable (they were!). Arrived in the pub car park just as an Etihad…

Pulled the trigger on the Connie yesterday. Beautiful. Installed fine, loaded in the sim fine. FPS still pretty good. Mistakenly assigned my rudder axis to nosehweel steering in the configurator: No rudders moving! OOPS, reverted back, all OK. Had Larry(the FE) do his stuff. Cool! Then I let the engines idle too long whilst generally faffing about... so he shut them all down again! LOL. Eventually got her moving and took off from Manchester EGCC, full bore. OOPS shouldn't cane the engines like that (thanks, Larry!) Flew out and around, getting her trimmed out about 2500 feet. All the time wondering why the prop rpm was still at full chat redline despite me …

Today I enjoyed my first route that I loved in the days since I started with FSII from Sublogic. I flew from Midway, IL, to Springfield, IL at night. I loved flying that route in FSII and I even put a little hack in that program to fly it faster than the default Piper they used. I found if you went into settings and put a negative value for flaps, the Piper could haul blank at over 250 mph. One of my many hacks over the years to improve the DOS based games performance. I have some screenshots of that flight posted today in the screenshots forum. John

After installing all the Orbx scenery in my new FSX=SE installation I couldn't get the Vector configurator to work. It said it couldn't find the installation. After fruitlessly searching through Google for an answer and then going to the limited user support forum and not getting a timely reply Sue came to my rescue. She had me up and running in less than 5 minutes. Just have give credit where credit is due. Noel

Well, they are up to their old tricks again. Some of you might remember PC Aviator (US) shut off their $5 coupons during the latter part of the 2016 Xmas sale. The coupons had an expiration date of 31 DEC 16 with no disclaimer attached. They just did it again. I have a $5 coupon which expires 30 NOV 17. I tried to apply it to a purchase and I get the same error that I received last year "The coupon cannot be used because the applicable discount is equal to 0." PC Aviator shut off my coupon during the Thanksgiving sale. I'm done with this company. I'm done with their non-responses to e-mails, done with them not updating download files when updates are relea…

Hello everyone, Its been a while since Iv'e posted a topic on AVSIM and this time I'm a little confused on the 'Minimums' callout upon landing. I already know that the Minimums is the lowest altitude you can get before touching down on the runway (correct me if I'm wrong). However, I was watching a video and the guy in it was landing and while doing so, said that he forgot to set the minimums and began to do that. I never knew you had to set minimums. So the question is: How do I know my minimums and how to set them (on the 737 like PMDG)? Please answer clearly so I don't get a headache while reading it Thanks for your answer, JWMuller

I took advantage of the discounted price at Aerosoft to update Lisbon airport (LPPT) to v2 today. Even with the improved building textures and discounted price I'm wondering if it was worth it. Why? Because even with nice terminal textures the nicely modelled jetways are static. No SODE animation. Not even the default jetways. How disappointing. But this is a Mega Airport so isn't it reasonable to expect a degree of animation and jetways are at the top of that list for me. What justifies its title of Mega Airport? Whilst it has 2 runways the terminal buildings are not particularly extensive. Compared to Frankfurt, Heathrow and Rome it's a small project. Even the …

The first real "technology" was the low-frequency radio range system. Here is a brief description of how the LF radio range worked: Can you imagine having fly for hours listening to that continuous stream of CW characters? When actually "on-course" the two characters sort of blended into a continuous tone, but hearing that was considered a "Bad Thing". The reason being that they were required to fly parallel to, but not directly on the beam! They were to stay to the right of the beam to avoid any aircraft flying the reciprocal course... For full details of this primitive system, read the Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low-frequency_radio_range…

While doing some digging for a recipe to make something unique for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas dinner at a large gathering, I unearthed one of my late mother's prize recipes, so thought I'd share it here. It's truly yummy! HUNTERS' STEW 1 elephant, medium size 50 lbs salt 50 lbs pepper 130 lbs peeled potatoes, cut in small pieces 120 lbs carrots, sliced thin 350 gallons brown gravy to cover 2 rabbits (optional) Cut elephant into bite-sized pieces. Add the potatoes and carrots. Add the brown gravy and cook at 465º for about 4 weeks. Salt and pepper to taste. This will serve around 3,800 people. If more are expected, the …

A bit of my background with General Aviation. I went to Flight School from 1997 to 1999, in that time there was an accident at my school that killed a fellow instructor and student. I left that school and finished at another school but decided to pack it in and that was the end of flying General Aviation for me in 1999. I also decided that Flight Simulators were getting better that was a safer, cheaper and more entertaining option for me so that is what I did moving forward. The past few weeks my brother and sister-in-law were visiting New Zealand from Chicago and I took them on a tour around the country. One of those afternoons my brother wasn't feeling well so he t…

Just to share with you guys this outstanding testimony of a veteran pilot. Of his genre the best video I ever seen. Enjoy. Quoted from the source on YT: "In this talk at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Vietnam-era attack pilot and retired Air Force major Brian Shul, author of "Sled Driver: Flying the World's Fastest Jet," reveals fascinating details of piloting the SR-71. Using his rare aviation slides and stories as a vehicle, he tells a broader inspired story of hope, overcoming obstacles and daring to dream."

Just a heads up for 747 fans. The new (December 2017) issue of Airliner World magazine comes with a very nicely produced freebie 100 page supplement concentrating on the Boeing 747, covering its development history and its latest 747-8 variant, including an interview with the chief Boeing test pilot for the 747-8 and some very nice cutaway diagrams of the 400 and 400F, plus loads of cool pics and stuff interesting pieces about various 747 variants such as the originals and the SPs, the Iron Maiden special and all that kind of stuff. I've got quite a few good books on the 747, and this thing has stuff in it that I never knew which isn't in any of those books, so this …

I really wanted to believe that FSW was not going to be another Train Simulator. I did, until today. If FSW is still in Early Access, that means it's not complete. If it's not complete, you would generally have the entire development team working to finish the development process. If you are producing and selling DLC, then you are no longer in the Early Access stage. No, I will not accept some excuse about developing DLC alongside the title, the title is not complete. No, I will not support this terrible business model, and no, I will no longer support FSW or Dovetail Games. My positive review on Steam has been edited and changed to a Not Recommended along with …

Mission packs are fine, but ultimately you need endless possibilities and a purpose for flying. I really like fseconomy, although its interface is not great and probably complex for new Steam users. I wonder if fseconomy allows others like DTG to implement a better interface. Or maybe FSW could implement its own as DLC. The keys are you accumulate money and buy new planes. I think this can keep users hooked. Just an idea.
