United is selling off pieces of their retired 747 fleet. Some to frequent flyers while other parts will be part of an upcoming auction. Cool stuff! http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-biz-united-airlines-boeing-747-parts-auction-1026-story.html

I've found that on my system tool tips only appear when the sim is running full screen if the menu bar is showing at the top whereas they're shown in windowed mode whether the menu bar is visible or not. Does everyone's copy behave the in same way? I suppose in the absence of a setup option to choose whether or not they're shown it's way of disabling them but it does seem an odd design choice. A bug worth reporting perhaps?

  3. Two days ago (October 22), an Air Canada A320 flight crew almost caused a second major incident this year at KSFO after failing to respond to a Go Around request from controllers. According to reports, the A320 did not respond to the tower's landing clearance or the subsequent Go Around order, even after repeating the call 5 times. The pilots later said the radio had malfunctioned, but controllers also attempted to signal the flight deck with a red light gun and the plane landed anyways. Apparently the preceding flight had radioed the tower and voiced concerns that they would not be able to clear the runway in time, but thankfully they made it off prior to Air Canada's ar…

I was wondering if American has any Boeing pilots stationed at Charlotte or if they're all former US Air guys? Silly question maybe but I like flying my NGX out of my FSDT KCLT. Close to home .

I wonder how you plan flights for use with the GTN 750. Up to now I simply decide from where I want to fly to where and then enter the airports in the GTN. After doing so I might look at a departure chart, if available, and add some additional waypoints. That's about it. I add an approach as soon as I get close to my destination and know where I will have to land. I sort of mix VFR with IFR because I do like to fly approaches from the charts. Up to now I used Plan-G to plan flights: set A to B and if necessary drag the flightpath anywhere I want to. Really simple. But Plan-G uses navdata from the sim, making adding waypoints from a chart a bit hard, and the waypoints…

Today I was outside when one of my neighbors, a couple years older than I am, came over with interest in my flight simulator. I fired up P3dv4 for him, as I think it's a better simulator to get started, and I let him take the controls of the Carenado 337. He was in ecstasy, I taught him how to turn, takeoff, trim the aircraft and just fly VFR. He did very well, did not crash, although there were a couple of close calls that I coached him thru. He first flew over the SF Bay area for about half an hour, then I let him fly over my home area of Phoenix in my trike. He said he used to use simulators at Luke, he was a very good student, even though I am not a CFI. I alwa…

Air battle being waged between Orange County sheriff, fire helicopters over emergency calls: NB: a fully audio recording is included in this linked report. http://www.ocregister.com/2017/05/05/sheriff-copters-steal-rescue-calls-from-fire-copters/ I simply cannot get past the completely unprofessional conduct that took place during this incident. All of the individuals involved in this verbal battle over the radio completely ignored the primary rule in rescues: "the patient's welfare is always the primary focus!"

  9. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4712255/air-berlin-bankrupt-last-flight-dusseldorf-airport-stunt-pilot-investigated-video/ The pilot of the Airbus A330 - who is now being investigated - was allowed by the Dusseldorf traffic control to do a flyover as it was the last flight operated from the US to Germany. Videos show the plane appearing to attempt to land before regaining speed and elevation, turning to the side as it does. It then flies narrowly close to the airport terminal as it shows off its wings for one last time. In a video shot by a witness, a woman can be heard saying "what is it doing" as the aeroplane suddenly seems to accelerate and is not sl…

Since I have been recuperating from my hospital visit at the beginning of this month, I have really resumed simming again. Since I am on a government stipend for my disability I don't go out that much, to save gas and keep expenses down. If I ever start working again things will change, I still get requests for interviews for programming gigs but still being ill I turn them down. Thank goodness for Xplane11 and Prepare3D! They have been keeping me company and I've been enjoying both sims so much, an average of four hours a day simming. Xplane11 has my Ortho4XP scenery which extends down the west coast of North America from Southern British Columbia to the Arizon…

Hello all, I may well be in the wrong forum here, so Moderators please feel free to move it if necessary. I have an unusual (I think) problem with the Sim Market site and I wonder if anyone can help me. I have run out of activations for my BDO Aviation sceneries (all) This is due mainly to my constant need for re-installs due to an incredible number and consistency of power failures corrupting my system. I have been trying for at least a week now to raise a ticket to reset my activations but each and every time, I do so I cannot find the ticket. The only response I get is a re-direction to my ticket history (all closed) which does not include my current is…

  14. Hi, Can someone advise what are the typical or actual training flights performer by USAF on KC-10s pilots (I am not interested in refueling activities, just routes, maneuvers, airports used for trainings, eventually some cross-border missions)? Obviously I am talking about both Travis AFB and McGuire. Thanks in advance, Kris

Gran Turismo Sport came out this week. I was going to take a break from Flight simming for a change ...which I usually do when the GT franchise comes out. But GT just has its new Coke moment! Ha HA! They ripped the main meat and potatoes of the game and built a series from just its trimmings. http://wccftech.com/gran-turismo-sport-career-mode/ Amazon reviews https://www.amazon.com/Gran-Turismo-Sport-PlayStation-4/dp/B01FT72NOO?th=1#customerReviews Why do successful Franchise rip what they do best and try something totally offbase? Ace Combat did that once and almost destroyed their franchise too, now they are returning to th…

IYP users know that this program is "installed" in such a way that it is almost impossible to troubleshoot. My problem started when IYP did not interpret voice commands as it always had. I redid all voice tutorials and my voice was 100% in dictation but totally failed in IYP. After checking many .cfg files in Appsdata\Local\....\you know, Somehow I must have moved or changed something. Now, tryingto load it the program starts an update at the IYP site. Unfortunately the site has been down for months and the forumn is virtually inactive. A long, sad post I know and believe me: I did back up any .cfg files that looked important 9there are a dozen or more) I surely will…

I bought FSW at the weekend but I have yet to fly as I am trying to sort out my controllers setup. I have a TM hotas and CH pedals. I assigned the basic flight controls to the controllers and then went to the outside camera while parked to check they were working properly. All the control surfaces reach full deflection in approx half the movement of the controller. I have tried adjusting the 'sensitivity' setting on the relevant axis to 0 and to 10 but it made no difference. Also I am confused as to what sensitivity on an axis means. When I move my controller to its full extent I want the aircraft control surface to move 100%. What is the 'sensitivity' setting s…
