Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

I stumbled across this article online (written in 2002 by Tom Sloper on a Mah-Jongg site Sloperama.com). "This time, the airplane landed at a NORMAL airport -- one with a straight-on approach path for the plane to follow. If you never flew into the old Kai Tak airport, you probably don't know what I'm talking about. The approach path to the Kai Tak airport required incoming passenger aircraft to fly a terrifying, low-level, zigzag path onto the runway. I sat by the window that first time into Kai Tak, and it was terrifying. Buildings went by at our very wingtips, it seemed. But the new airport is much more viewer-friendly than that. A lot less scary, I mean. " =…

Apologies for not posting in old thread/s about this but I feel this need to be brought to the attention of Avsim users and Moderators Ok so for the first time in 20 years of online purchasing of sim products, this has now happened to me. On 6th May 2021 I purchased two airports (Walvis Bay and Windhoek) plus Aerosoft Lukla P3D from Simmarket. No purchases for 3months prior to that, and after that earlier March purchase(PMDG) no strange transactions. Starting May 9th (3 days after the Simmarket purchase) many transactions that I did not initiate went through that card (I only picked up on these reviewing my statement at month-end June; wish I had done it end M…

As some of you might know, I'm back working for Menzies Aviation at EGCC (been back for a couple of weeks now, merrily doing all the currency training again), and I'm pleased to note that things are picking up a lot at Manchester. Recently it's been a bit of a ghost town where you can actually hear birds singing when out on the ramp, and it doesn't stink of jet fuel either, so it's a bit bizarre. But Jet 2 restarted operations the other day, Condor will be flying from there again shortly with their B757s. Aurigny start up again tomorrow with ATR-72s and Embraer jets. Aer Lingus will be expanding their ops again with an A330 to the US fairly soon (and I think maybe a long-…

Not sure what to make of this or if it belongs in this forum but MS notified me today of glad tidings a new version of Windows inbound WINDOWS 11. All I can say is here we go again time to bust everything good and proper for 2 years and drive us all nuts! At least LM should, I repeat should be stable for awhile as those big corporate users tend not to rush into each every new operating system inflicted on the world by MS.

I've seen Chock and other members talk about Air Hauler 2, from time to time. This has lead to having questions to those who know: Is it worth the $50? Is it better than the P3D version (which I found incredibly fiddley)? Are there better options out there for a Air Hauler experience? TYVM

I have been using Microsoft Outlook Web for years, but it only comes with 1GB of storage. Can someone let me know a suitable alternative option that is free (or low cost), and comes with much greater storage capacity (15-20 GB would do)? I have downloaded and installed Mozilla Thunderbird, and it seems to have detected and assigned the various servers and settings required for my partcular email address. However, I am not receiving any emails. I am not all that "clued up" when it comes to email clients, so I would be very grateful for any help that could be offered! Am I missing something obvious that I need to do?

For the last 25-odd years, I have built my computers and my wife’s. The enduring penury of components makes me wonder whether this will be possible in the two or three years to come. Today, I caught myself red handed browsing the Dell site 😁 !

Were all the aircraft included in the program done by Asobo? They're a French company, is that not correct? I ask just because I found it odd one of the aircraft has a grammar mistake in a texture. The CTSL has a label that say "Ne pas suspendre les casques ici." Which translated would be approximately Don't not to hang hats here. Maybe the real thing has the same.

These stories of my boyhood that I am posting every Friday began with an essay about my father. Perhaps it's time you met my mother. I Remember Mama We were walking toward my new school, Saint Jarleth School in Oakland. We had just moved back to California from Chicago. I was in the second grade. I didn’t want to go. I was shy and as we walked up the steps and into the great hallway of the school I began whimpering and holding my Mom’s arm a bit more tightly. We walked into sister superior’s office where Mom enrolled me. My whimpering turned into sobs. By the time Mom and sister superior got to the class room I was crying. Mom told sister super…

Partially Identified Flying Object...Apparently this happened back in February. It was a drone, but what kind and who was operating it over such a large area? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9718285/Mystery-drone-leads-Border-Patrol-police-helicopters-100mph-chase-Arizona-skies.html Noel

Wonder about the Turkey Hill Stores that have have recently popped up in Orbx scenery? They are real. Turkey Hill convenience stores are popular in Pennsylvania and New York. I wonder if they have given Orbx a license to use them or if someone is getting a cut from Turkey Hill. Noel

To fill out the first group of 38 flight attendants, Southwest ran its first-ever ad in May 1971. Written by Trapp’s team, it was a help-wanted missive titled “An Open Letter to Raquel Welch.” It read, in part, “Ms. Welch: You typify the girls we’re looking for: Warm, personable, and great-looking in hot pants. … If you know of any other girls like you (at least 20 years old, 20/50 vision, without glasses, between 5’2” and 5’7”, 100-135 pounds) … would you please ask them to send us a brief statement of qualifications and a recent photograph?” This wouldn't fly today--not for an airline. It's pretty tame by Calvin Klein standards, but you can see the problem when it…
