Hey all, I'm quite new to civilian flight sims but have a fair number of hours on modules like the Huey, Mi8, F/A-18C and F-14A and B in DCS. I am curious, are the likes of PMDG, JustFlight and the upcoming Fenix regarded as roughly equals to the aircraft in DCS in terms of depth of simulation? I mean things like electrical systems, hydraulics, computer systems etc. I'm not asking which is better at all of course, I'm just interested on a technical level about depth of simulation. I have and love both. I guess it's more my inner-nerd being curious about what's going on below the hood of both.

Freckles There are two questions every parent has to face; "Can I have a dog?" and, "When can I drive?" Lee and I wanted a dog. Mom kept saying no. "But Mom, a dog would nice, and we'll take care of it." "No, I'll end up feeding it and taking out for a walk every night. Besides, we don't have room for a dog." "Yes we do, it can sleep in our room. Please?" "Absolutely not. You never even fed the goldfish I got for you." "But Mom, a dog is different. We promise to take care of it, you won't have to do a thing." After weeks of nagging, she finally gave in. "But a small dog," she said, "I don't want a big dog in this house." …

Hi recently finished watching a news piece from on American Airlines flight 2292 encountering a UFO while crossing New Mexico airspace back in February and I may be new to this but I wanted to ask, If these truly are aliens why are they so interested in our planes? and what could they be doing aside from observing them? Let me know what you think down below, I’m just as curious and perplexed as the next person. Here’s the link:

I joined Avsim when FS9 was released. I’d been simming and flying IRL for years, but discovered Avsim in 2004. I was never active and never really spent much time on the site other than a question here and there. While most people have been welcoming, there’s truly an element of negativity and doomsaying, and there has been here for a long time. I think there are some who are always looking for the black cloud to pull out of the silver lining, whether they realize it or not. They don’t tolerate positivity or disagreeing with their “sky is falling” mantra. So while I’m sure no one cares one bit, I think I’ll go back to lurking and maybe posting a hardware questio…

I live on a narrowboat in the UK. My Internet speed averages 5Mbps. Photogrammetry has been permanently switched off because of the slow speed. I was excited to learn of Starlink Internet so ordered it in April 2021. It was delivered today 23 August. Delivery from Los Angeles was only three days from dispatch. My first speed test was 170Mbps, but the highest seen on day 1 was 260Mbps! Coverage in the UK is very good. My latitude is 52N which is under the Northern extent of the satelite paths, so no outages at all even though the service is in Beta. At last I can new see Photogrammetry and very nice it is too. Only one day with the service, but it means a…

Maybe I've been living in a box but I just found this: https://archive.org/details/feature_films . There are more old movies there which can be legally streamed and/ or downloaded than I ever thought existed in one place. You won't find anything still under copyright but most of the old stuff isn't anyway. There are also a lot of other good things there like books and audiobooks. I think it's well-worth a visit.

In honor of Robert Redford's 85th birthday yesterday TCM played Redford movies. I watched four classics in a row. The Natural. Out of Africa. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The Last Castle. I had never herd of The Last Castle before so I stayed up past me bedtime to watch it. While not what I would call a great movie it is worth watching. Robert Redford was 65 years when he made it. He plays a three star general who was court martialed and sent to a military prison whose commandant is brutal. Redford organizes an army out of the prisoners and they plot to take over the prison and oust the commandant. Noel

Dinner Time Dinner was a daily social event at our house. Dad was usually home from work about six o'clock. Mom would spend most of the afternoon preparing and cooking our evening meal. First she would go out and shop for fresh produce and meat. Peas had to be shelled, potatoes had to be peeled or scrubbed, and the meat or poultry or fish had to be trimmed and seasoned. We would sit down at the kitchen table and start with soup. Home made split pea or cream of tomato, or sometimes canned chicken noodle or chicken with rice which Mom would embellish with her secret seasonings. Then we would start on the main course. Lee and I usually dominate…

Sometime in the past year, I came across a picture which looked to have been from the 1920s, showing a guy on a small platform attached to the side of the engine compartment of a single engine airplane while the plane was flying. I laughed, thought "This can't be true, can it?" and made a mental note to do some research. So today I remembered it and checked it out: Holy Toledo!!! Check out the pictures in "The golden age of endurance flights" section, as well as the travails faced by the Key brothers on their flight: https://maisonbisson.com/post/on-building-the-plane-while-flying-it/ And here's a list of some of the notable endurance flights of 1929: …

A few days ago I was visiting with an old buddy. It had been almost 60 years since we'd seen each other and we had a great time talking about the "old days" and swapping lies about all the women we'd known over the years. Somehow the subject of music came up. Music...so many memories. He told me about his time teaching piano and I told him about my time learning to play. I've been playing for 67 years now and loving every minute of it. And I'll never forget my teacher...a guy named Howard. Howard was a bar-room piano player who couldn't read music. His wife was a trained concert pianist who could. What a pair! I remember the first time I walked into their house all t…

Hi all, been away from active simming for quite a bit because of emigration, lack of time and lack of a PC that would still run. Now getting back into it, being retired and having some space, and on researching new sims and add-ons, just happened onto Avsim again. Just curious to see who is still around of my old group of fellow simmers of 20 years go....... and starting to built my first ever home cockpit 😁🖐️

We watched the movie twice on TCM; last week and once last month. I liked it very much. TCM said it was panned by the critics and a box office flop. With stars like Tom Hanks, Melanie Griffith, Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman in a story written by Thomas Wolfe how could it go wrong? It's a satire on society, the media, the court system, politics, and social justice gone awry. And seasoned with a bit of sex. I loved it. I loved it so much I jus bought the book which on Barnes and Noble has a 5.5 stars out of 6. Noel

Hello All. My name is Jeremy. I am 26 and live near Seattle. I am finally able to get back into flight sim after an almost 4 year hiatus. I own FSX steam edition and have a few add on for it (Mainly the Aerosoft A320 family) My Original plan was to go ahead and buy the PDMG 737 so I could have two out of my five favs but it appears PMDG doesn't sell the FSX 737 anymore (Which I get FSX is very old now and plus with P3D and FS2020) but at same time I don't see it worth upgrading (To as I don't really do Vatsim or use AI traffic ((Though I will be able to now when my computer comes in I was on a laptop using integrated graphics with two cores so couldn't)) but at same…

Most of my evenings are spent watching old movies on TCM. Last night Anchors Aweigh with Gene Kelly and a very young Frank Sinatra. I got to thinking who was the better dancer, Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire? For ballroom dancing my pick would be Fred Astaire. But for athletic ability and innovate dancing I would pick Gene Kelly hands down. Watching these old movies make me feel good. I don't have much of a connection to the current culture but I when I watch old movies I reconnect to a culture I'm familiar with. But the sad part is almost all the adults playing in these movies are dead now. And the children in them are either dead or in their 70s and 80s…

Another boyhood story. Let me know if you're tired of them and I'll quit posting them. My First Gun I was 13 years old when I got my first gun. There was a small sporting goods shop on Polk Street near California. I'd stopped by there several times after school to look at the Winchester Single Shot .22 behind the counter. It cost fifteen dollars. I wanted that gun. Earlier that summer, when Lee and I were on one of our trips to Salinas, Uncle Bob let me fire his shotgun. My friend Rich had his own .22 rifle. I wanted one too. It was near Christmas. I asked Mom to get me that rifle for Christmas, but she refused, saying I wasn't old enough …
