Tis week is a departure from my boyhood stories. I'm almost running out of them. Only a couple or so left. But I ran into tis one while cleaning out some files. It's the same boy but a half a century later. I wrote this for our local newspaper at the request of the director. My Life as an Actor... What do you do when you’re 63 years and recently retired? My next door neighbor John had the answer. He took me to our local community little theater and persuaded me to audition for a part in the next production of You Can’t Take it with You. I decided to humor John so when the director asked me to take a script, step onto the stage and read some lines, I …

  2. 😫 Yes folks, 100 times more powerful. And new research is suggesting much more common than thought. Given that people are beating each other up in petrol station queues in the UK, what will they do if a "gigantic super flare" hits us and modern society is shut down?

I’d just like to thank the organisers of the FSExpo 2021 for putting on the show this year. I’m over in the U.K. so signed up for $15 online attendance and I have to say it’s the best 15 dollars I’ve spent in my flight simulator budget. I’ve had a whole weekends worth of entertainment. Being 8 hours behind I was able to watch half the seminars in the U.K. evening then finish of that day’s presentations the next morning, and by the time I’d done that it was approaching the time for the next load of presentations to start live. I’ve really enjoyed the seminars and learnt some new stuff, it’s one of my favourite parts of physically attending the U.K. flight…

It's being hailed as a breakthrough at NIF, The National Ignition Facility. The goal of laser fusion has taken a significant jump forward. They have yet to generate more energy than used to power the lasers, however, they are 70% of the way there and have demonstrated that there's nothing wrong with the concept of laser fusion. "A blast into a clean energy future? Scientists tout nuclear fusion breakthrough - The San Diego Union-Tribune" https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/business/story/2021-09-26/nuclear-fusion-experiment?_amp=true “People have been working at this for decades trying to achieve this,” said Annie Kritcher, a physicist at the…

Six+ years ago my wife and I moved to PHX from DEN. One day my wife, and visiting daughter, were on their way to go shopping. As they walked by my desk, to the garage, I said -- I'm going to write a poem. They looked at me like I had lost it! For several years, whenever I heard the frequently used term -- *The Valley Of The Sun*, It always sounded like the title of a poem, or story. When my wife and daughter returned from shopping I presented them with this composition. It's now been 6yrs and 2mos since we arrived here. My wife of 56+yrs, my best and oldest friend, who had just moved from DEN to TUC, have both passed away, and, due to health issues, I've had to…

  11. This post assumes that MSFS has won your money and you are not considering either P3D or XP. So if you do not fall into this category this post is really not directed at you. For the rest of us... MSFS has won us over. We love the graphics. The technology is amazing. We are just waiting patiently (sort of!) for PMDG and other devs to deliver the study level stuff (and other aircraft). We know that eventually the bugs we see in MSFS will be sorted out, so from our perspective we are playing while waiting for things to get fixed. So on the surface it doesn't look like many (% wise) are going to start dumping more money into XP or P3D. But let's pretend for a minute tha…

Yep, that's right, Captain Kirk, the Shatman, is next up in Blue Origin's amusingly shaped rocket. I can hear him now... "Bezo's, Bezo's, give me warp drive now!" Bezo's replies... "Judah Levine, the head of research at Freightos, told Insider that the price for transporting a 40-foot container between the US and Asia jumped 500% from this time last year to $20,586. The Bully Ronald Pilkington was the class bully. He never physically abused anybody, but he had a real 'tough guy' demeanor and was a master at intimidation. We were all afraid of him. He would threaten to beat someone up after school, but somehow the victim was always allowed to 'escape'. The next morning Ronald would tell him how lucky he was that he got away. Ronald lived in Marin City, a low rent housing development across the bay built by Kaiser during World War II to house shipyard workers. He had no father, and he and his sister lived in one of the barracks like apartments with his mother. I imagine his mother sent him to Saint Brigid's in the…

Hope all of our friends in Melbourne are fine following the earthquake. Looks like a 5.8 but this is the largest earthquake in Australia for centuries as this is not a normal place for these to happen. Looks like a lot of historical properties are gone for good after this as they were not designed to withstand an earthquake of this size, this will mean further job losses, business losses and people displaced from homes and apartments, Melbourne has been through a lot already, tough times ahead

  24. Might not surprise you, but being a JAG is nothing like the TV show. As I am using UCGX for the tow of shame back to the stand after I forgot how to use the hydraulics in the Aerosoft DC-8 (making the most of it) I noticed another topic had drifted off course. (A Marine started it, some sailors jumped in and the authorities finished it--the usual story). So for military types with stories involving the UCMJ, here's a new thread. I sort of defaulted into law school because I had a BA in History and (yes, this is how my JAG career really started) I saw an episode of The A-Team that involved a JAG officer. A Navy recruiter visited the campus after my first year. (I thin…
