Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

By now you have heard about the shooting accident in which Alec Baldwin shot and killed a camera man. I mentioned this here before. Unloaded guns have killed hundreds of people. When I played a reporter in the play Take a Number Darling in the Roswell Little Theater production I was supposed to hold the entire cast at gunpoint in one scene. They didn't have prop gun so the director brought in his .38 revolver he wanted me to use. I refused, telling him I would not point a real gun at anybody now matter how many people assured me it was unload. We had a big row about it and I threatened to walk out unless he got a toy gun for me to use. He relented a…

There have been several letters in the British Daily Telegraph in recent weeks about the days when passengers were allowed onto the flight-deck. Today’s was of particular interest as it refers to my local airport - Manchester.... Leaving it late for the plane ride of a lifetime SIR – As an aeroplane captain, many moons ago I invited two older people to the flight deck (Letters, October 26) as we came into Manchester airport. The gentleman was 97 and the lady 93, and this was their first flight. It was a particularly nice evening with falling light, so the lights of the town and the airport were especially striking. They loved every…

I hope I can ask this here. I couldn't find a forum more likely to post this. My question to you all is aimed at pilots and PMDG users. The Real World 737 Max accidents were caused by the vertical stabilizer incorrectly forcing the nose into a descent attitude. My question is, couldn't the crew have eliminated that by completely disconnecting the AP and hand flying the aircraft? Thanks.

  6. So I want to simulate scheduled cargo flights with a C208/Beech 99/Emb-110 type of plane. If "A" represents the hub and "B", "C"... etc represent other airports, how does a typical day look like? A-B-C-D-E etc. to A Or A-B, B-A, A-C, C-A, etc. and then what time? first in the morning for dropoff and then after 5pm for pickup or ? a little guidance would help me, thanks.

I guess you either fly this way out in the middle of nowhere, or else have some really heavy-duty liability insurance. Once you're flying it, be careful not to sneeze, you might lose visual contact 😂

We shouldn't underestimate how important this mission is. 50 deployments, 178 release mechanisms. All have to work perfectly. Thousands of people, entire careers and all comes down to the launch. No second chances. The largest telescope ever put in space. One million miles from Earth.

My kind wife bought me a very nice piece of artwork of a DC-8 over the iconic Douglas sign. I thought it might be of interest to some of you so JetAgeArt.com is where she found it. Large variety of artwork there. Here’s some swag that came with it.

I was going to join back up with BAV until I stumbled onto their site and noticed the member count was always 1100 area down to 200, then I noticed you need a subscription to some other thing that wasn't a thing when I left this thing 2 years ago. So my question is what the hell happened, and where have all the BAV guys gone.?

I've looked and looked but I can't find an FSX GAF Tornado with the New Mexico Zia emblem on the tail. Until March of 2019 these aircraft flew out of the GAF training squadron at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. The German Air Force operated the north half of Holloman as a training squadron for GAF pilots. They also had the only F-4s still flying in the United States. Has anyone ever seen this aircraft in FSX? Noel

Hey guys ! . I've been enabling HDR since I started playing DCS and IL2, and then X-plane too... Although my monitors are not HDR ready, when I enable HDR as an option on one of these sims, I get the idea there are some effects that really come to play, and make it look better this is surely true about X-Plane where some features are actually only available (such as some types of AA ) when HDR is enabled, but, question is, does it make sense since my monitor doesn't make it ?

I USTA by Noel Sivertson I USTA...two words I say a lot these days. I walked a mile this morning but I USTA run three. But the years catch up with ya. Not a youngster in my 50s anymore, not sturdy like a tree. And Old Man Time just laughs at me and says, "I gotcha!" I USTA gulp down a 16 ounce steak, an a stuffed potato treat. But the years catch up with ya. I can still chew up half that much with my remaining natural teeth. And Old Man Time just laughs at me and says, "I gotcha!" I USTA walk the wilderness, with a pack upon my back. But the years catch up with ya. I can still walk across the parking lot toting a grocery sack. And…

I live in the British Isles on a relatively small island, 63,000 people, 12 miles long. Much different attitude here compared with the UK, make a mistake in your car and people seem much more patient, far less likely to berate you. Road Rage does happen but it seems way less frequent. Motorists stop in their cars to let pedestrians cross with a smile and in the street and in the shops people are more courteous. Somebody said to me the other day that its due to the fact that if you are rude to someone or get involved in a road rage incident, you are more likely to meet that person again in the near future. Dodgy behaviour is big news too. Even those who get spee…
