I've probably posted this before but I've just got to do it again... About 25 years ago when the Memphis Belle was still on display at Mud Island my wife and I went for a visit. And there she was in all her glory. And also there was a fellow there who helped with the restoration. He gave us brief history lesson on the the Belle. During the course of his talk he referred to the Belle as a B-17G. After about the third such reference a little old lady stood up and said "pardon me but the Memphis Belle was a B-17F. Not a B-17G". Taken aback, the lecturer didn't quite know what to say. He finally came up with something like "I can assure you that she is a B-17G". To whic…

Do any of you sail the submarines in P3D? If so how? What do you do? Is there a control panel? Is there a periscope so you can see outside? Do you navigate by geographical coordinates (LAT-LON)? Why did LM put them in a flight simulator? Noel

One of my dearest friends is Glenn Miller's nephew, Richie. This is his favorite tune. Even if you don't like the Miller sound you have to see the pictures:

Hey Noel - Being in the Corps. I'm sure you know about a guy named Ira Hayes (1923-1955). And I also know you're an old-time movie fan. I just watched (for the Nth time) a movie called "The Outsider". Made in 1961, it "sort of" tells the story of this famous Marine. Lots of things in the movie are just for dramatic effect but all-in-all it's not bad. You can download/watch it on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fH_5gPaHCuk . Back in the early 1970's I worked with Ira's uncle. And what a great experience that was. Forget the movie. He was the "real expert" when it comes to the Ira Hayes story. He said that he always believed that the thing which contributed most to…

Black Friday, a good day to stay at home and play with your flight simulator. Everyone crowding the stores and going batcrap hoping they have a long enough arm to grab the last wachamacalitgizmo on the table and save five bucks. Who started this Black Friday thing anyway? I know it's been going on for several years now. I'd have to want something pretty bad to elbow my way through crowds or wait in line to save a couple of bucks. We have a Visa bank card and an Amazon store card. That's all we need. It may cost a few bucks more but the price for convenience isn't that great. Betty already did the Christmas shopping from Amazon except for my Harry and D…

https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/23/politics/ufo-reports-pentagon/index.html "The Department of Defense announced its plans to streamline the collection and analysis of UFO reports across the government Tuesday, following the government's acknowledgment earlier this year that these reports are worth studying and may pose a national security threat. The department will create a unified group to handle the reports of UFOs, formally known as Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs), across the military branches and other government agencies." And what do we think the conclusions will be from this new unified group... Nothing to see here folks, move …

Hi, I am looking for a website where I can download a list of the destinations that certain airliner serve. Wikipedia has such articles, however they are too formated. I need something that is based on a Database format, so I can compare stuff easly or at least import that stuff into excel to do further research.

Since I am anything with machines/engines sim fan, I take a break from flying and drive trucks, or farm. FS22 has some pretty nice features, with alot of improvements. The video featuring DLSS with a good fps boost might show the potential in MSFS if it is implemented. Albeit travelling in a tractor at ground level at 20MPH is a whole lot different to flying. Liking the new sounds, textures, production chains, and some other new activities to do. Pretty extensive modding community just like MSFS too. So many cool machines to explore. Anyone else trying the new FS22? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3judu8lLqo

Today I began experimenting with FS2004 aircraft and scenery in P3Dv3. I already have the SDB military airports for FSX installed along with their ai aircraft on the tarmac and flying. One of my favorite aircraft, the FS2004 PMDG Beech 1900D works perfectly. I half expected to see the that message the model is not visible or some such. But it is and I flew it and all the gauges work. So I am going to start experimenting with old FS2004 favorites. Likewise scenery. I installed the FS2004 FSAD Orcas Island. Fits perfectly. I have a slew of those to install as well as other major airports to experiment with. I installed Orbx Base Pack, Trees H…

Great that Apple are allowing access to parts and tools for some of its newest products after pressure from US governmnt. https://news.sky.com/story/apple-allows-self-repairs-to-some-iphones-and-macs-after-pressure-from-biden-administration-and-regulators-12471232 "Apple said it will launch an online store for self-service repairs early next year, which will have more than 200 individual parts and tools for making the most common repairs on the iPhone 12 or iPhone 13." I should think so as well. Disgusting that manufacturers try to prevent us from repairing products WE OWN.

It's not dead yet, and some of us think it's the only thing reliable enough to wean us off of fossil fuel energy. This Time Magazine article is an in depth discussion of the future of nuclear power and some new innovations like mini-plants for places like remote Alaskan villages that now have to ship in diesel fuel for their generators because no grid reaches them. You anti-nuke guys read this objectively and tell us what you think. https://time.com/6117041/nuclear-energy-reactors-green/ Noel

I'm thankful for my Betty, my wife of 58 years. Our marriage didn't evolve out of romantic courtship. There wasn't time for that. I was a single father, a widower, with a 1 year old daughter. Betty was a single mom with a 1 year old daughter. I was looking for a mother for my daughter and she was looking for a father for hers. Additionally I needed a wife if I was going to continue my military career. I had been living at home after my first wife died and my Mom didn't like Betty at all. I don't know why. She asked one of my old high school girlfriends to try and break us up but she liked Betty and wouldn't try it. Mom said the marriage wouldn't last bec…

Time for my annual Thanksgiving post. I don't remember details of our Thanksgivings when I was a boy except for this one. It was unique and I post this story every Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving Guests It was about a week before Thanksgiving. World War II was raging, and the USO took out ads in both the Call Bulletin and the Examiner asking people to invite servicemen to their homes for the holiday. Mom called the USO and asked them to send over two. By Noon on Thanksgiving day all of the family had arrived at the house. Grandma was there. So was Cousin Emile and Uncle Bob and Aunty Mit. Mom set out the crackers and cheese and everyone was talking a…

Since some of the folks here seem to be interested in the doings of Clint Eastwood I thought it would be time to post (re-post?) a couple of "Eastwood Stories". Story #1. How did he ever become mayor of Carmel, CA? Back some 40 years ago Eastwood owned a bar in Carmel. It was called The Hogsbreath. It was a small place and very crowded almost every night. Next door was another small business that came up for sale. Eastwood bought it and planned to expand the bar into that area. But, the planning commission turned him down. They said a larger bar was not in the best interests of the residents of Carmel. OK. Enter the elections. Eastwood ran for mayor, won, fired the …

my goal is to fly IFR in MSFS on VATSIM in the TBM 930. using Simbrief and/or Navigraph seems overkill to me. I can understand that if you’re flying the tubeliners. I like Skyvector and Little NavMap. if filing IFR must I always use a SID & STAR?
