So I understand, holiday is derived from holy day and so because of the number of religions in the US happy holidays is said to avoid specifically referring the Christianity. Do you all do that in the US, in all states? Or do some of you say merry Christmas? There are a number of religions in the UK these days but its still Merry Christmas. Is it more to do with tradition?

Pilots must have got quite the shock!!! Thank goodness the aircraft were travelling in the same direction and the 777 has a strong windshield apparently! Wow, the chances are almost impossible to consider. If they were traveling in opposite directions I'm quite certain there would be another story entirely! Thank goodness thi9s ended well. Rapid decompression at FL350 can't be a good thing, wasn't there a BA pilot famously sucked out of the aircraft in an incident once? https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/17149536/ba-flight-shattered-windscreen-ice-from-jet-smashed/ FRIGHT FLIGHT BA flight left with shattered windscreen after a lump of ice smashed into it a…

The Holidays season is rich in traditions. You may or may not celebrate Christmas but how not like the cute 'Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus' editorial which stays as young as the day it was written. But there is another one I like too, cute in a nerdy way, the mathematical way. Merry Christmas you all

And it came to pass on Christmas Eve in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and thirty three, in San Francisco, California, a young woman named Jeanne was in labor. Having neither a telephone nor an automobile Jeanne’s husband Sig walked to the drug store on the corner, stepped into the phone booth, dropped a nickle in the slot, and called for a taxicab. When the taxicab arrived Sig helped Jeanne into the back seat and ordered the taxi driver to take them to Stanford Hospital where Jeanne was admitted to the maternity ward. Early Christmas morning Jeanne bore her first child, a son, who was named Noel in honor of the season. The three wise men be…

I used to like getting Christmas Cards in the mail. Not so much anymore. But I guess I’m at an age now where I have to expect the ones that contain messages that are not in spirit of the holidays. Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays. Joyeau Noel. Felice Navidad. Season’s Greetings. These are messages I should be left with after reading the inside of the card. But all too often now there is written below the Christmas message of joy and happiness words like ‘Uncle Fred died this year’ or ‘Aunt Mary is on chemo for lung cancer’. That defeats the purpose of Christmas Card. If you want to tell me sad news about Uncle Fred or Aunt Mary do it under separat…

Normally I accessed Avsim on Chrome when using my Galaxy phone. Lately, the pop up ads had made using the forums nearly impossible though. Yesterday, I logged in on Duckduckgo and problem solved. Peace. I can use the forums with no annoying pop-ups interfering when I read or post. I bookmarked in Duckduckgo and I am going to make it default browser on my phone if I can figure out how to do that.

I've been reading several threads on the state of online ATC in the sim world and I sit back thinking that something needs to be done. We have four networks and the overall coverage is weak. PilotEdge, in the western US, has the only predictable coverage. One thing the threads talk about is morale, which by reports, is pretty bad. Also, rules which seem to be political. Honestly, it all seems like a mess. If POSCON has done anything it's bringing this to the point where people are paying attention. A lot of folks want to fly online with ATC. If I had my choice, I'd fly with ATC the time and I would...if it was available. I think we need to talk about this. There…

I ran across an article this morning reporting the results of a survey in which the following question was posed: "Should schools in America teach Arabic numerals as part of their curriculum?" Fifty-six percent of the respondents answered "No"... Twenty-nine percent of respondents said that Arabic numerals should be taught in American schools, while the remaining 15 percent had no opinion. Poll: 56 percent of Americans don't want Arabic numerals taught in schools (fox10phoenix.com) Perhaps they would be happier if schools taught Roman numerals instead?

I have a generic cockpit which is built around a number of instruments, including the CP flight MCP+EFIS which of course I use when flying the NGX, and a RealSimGear GNS530. I'm thinking of adding the RSG G1000 to the panel. I don't think having a dual display is on the cards but wondering if I just have a single G1000 whether that would be sufficient. Could I somehow work around a single display? Thoughts on this would be appreciated, Thanks fellas.

Boeing Chief Executive Dave Calhoun and Airbus Americas CEO Jeffrey Knittel have called for postponing a planned Jan. 5 rollout of the new technology by AT&T and Verizon Communications. "5G interference could adversely affect the ability of aircraft to safely operate," the executives wrote in a letter to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, adding that this could have "an enormous negative impact on the aviation industry." source: https://www.npr.org/2021/12/21/1066240779/boeing-airbus-5g-wireless-delay-aircraft-safety-concerns video here: https://www.nbc.com/nbc-nightly-news/video/airbus-and-boeing-call-for-pause-on-rollout-of-5g/323589515
