Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

From "The Virtual Cockpit"... I am pleased to announce that I have accepted an offer from Thomas Wood at CR1 Software to become a full partner and developer in their organization. As part of our agreement, CR1 Software will host the library of freeware aircraft I have developed over the years. Even more exciting will be our upcoming Lineup of High-Quality Aircraft to be released in the coming months. Thomas and I are combining our experience and skills as developers bringing to life classic aircraft that have been long anticipated in the Flight Sim Community. I would like to thank my friends in our community for your loyalty and support over the p…

I've been as much an environmentalist as anyone up to now. But the next thing you know they are going to want us to collect farts in ziplock bags. I have a gas stove and heat the house with gas and I'm not about to change in the few years I have left. https://www.npr.org/2022/01/27/1075874473/gas-stoves-climate-change-leak-methane?ft=nprml&f= I'm tossing my environmentalist hat into the land fill. The planet didn't exist before I got here and will cease to exist when I'm gone. Noel

I've seen the old Midway movie with Charleton Heston, Henry Fonda, Glen Ford et al a number of times and enjoy it each time. This afternoon I settled down to watch the new version of Midway with a cast of people I never heard of before. The very beginning was alright but the attack on Pearl Harbor was so fake and computer graphiced that I turned it off. The Japanese aircraft knife edging through closely moored ships strafing and dropping bombs through the flames was dramatic but was not believable. It was too much like a Star Wars episode. Perhaps they cleaned it to be more believable later but I turned it off. Perhaps to today's generation brought up on thi…

Edwards Air Force Base is an excellent scenery in the default P3D scenery. But it is lacking one very important feature. It has no AFCAD. Where are ai aircraft supposed to park? I've been looking for Edwards AFB AFCAD but those I have found are all 'photoreal'. In all the airports I have ever landed at or taken off from I have never, ever, seen aircraft silhouettes painted on the tarmac. What's 'real' about that? Likewise I have never driven into a parking lot with automobile silhouettes painted on the surface. What's real about that? Does anybody know where I can get an Edwards AFB AFCAD for P3D that is clean? My Traffic ai military traffic works fi…

  15. Ever wonder how much it costs an airline to land an A380 at EDDF? This interesting article shows how much the airport would charge BA for using the German hub to restart its A380 ops for crew training and freight capacity https://simpleflying.com/british-airways-a380-frankfurt-cost/ The calculator is here on the Fraport website. You can choose all sorts of variables to generate the likely fees for certain aircraft types, passenger numbers, freight loading, departure and arrival times, and on choice of stand type.

  16. I like to simulate FAR135 operations I think you are allowed to offer minimal scheduled flight service under these rules - not sure. I would like to set this up as a commuter flight with the Emb 110, but the problem is it’s a long flight. What I want to do is a string of airports out and back like this: PANC-PAYA-PAJN-PAKT and reverse. would this be realistic? I don’t mean if this route actually exists in the real world, but could it exist?

As you know, I'm no fan of Space-X but I am a fan of this young lady. She may a decade older than the other young lady I posted here who made the around the world flight. But to me she's a young lady who has accomplished so much already and is on the threshold of a great adventure. https://www.stjude.org/inspire/series/storied-lives/st-jude-cancer-survivor-hayley-arceneaux-hope-inspiration4-worlds-first-all-civilian-space-flight.html Note: I have been a St. Jude's contributor for several decades. 23. Norway set the all time record last winter Olympics for most medals. Gracenote's predictions for Feb. 2022 looks like more of the same. (ROC is Russia) https://www.gracenote.com/virtual-medal-table/ I'll be rooting for France, you never know, it's all in fun anyways. Safe bet: The Swiss fans will ring cow bells at every chance.

I suppose if Airbus doesn't want to sell 6.3 billion dollars worth of jet airliners to Qatar Airlines then Qatar Airlines can go to Boeing who would probably be happy to accomodate them. Is there more to this that I don't know about? https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/1/22/airbus-cancels-6bn-contract-with-qatar-airways-amid-dispute Noel
