Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

Just this time, let's not go on about its a waste of money, spend the 0.3% of the federal budget it costs on the poor, Elon should pay more tax, Elon is showing off, etc... let's just keep it to the engineering, the technical achievement, if it works as planned. We know all the negative opinions and the positive ones. Let's put our space engineering hats on. Cat points will be awarded for compliance, perhaps even gold ones.

I finally completed my move to Hot Springs, Arkansas, and am slowly getting the house organized. I got the internet connected and got my main computer up and running mostly. I say "mostly" because for some reason my 2nd monitor isn't working. It's not the monitor itself as it works fine. It's either a driver issue or a problem with the 1080Ti video card. I'm going to try pulling out the 1080Ti/64Gb VRAM card and reseat it. Hopefully that will solve the problem. Perhaps being shaked, rattled and rolled in the YouAllHaul truck knocked it loose

Found this video on youtube about Finland's solution to nuclear waste: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYpiK3W-g_0 They've just built a 3rd generation pressurized water reactor, and their existing reactors are among the most efficient in the world. Yes, there were delays and cost overruns, which BTW are pretty par for the course in any large project, but the reactor goes online this year. They're also building a large deep underground storage facility which will store 100 years' worth of spent nuclear waste. This will make the country much more climate friendly, and greatly lessen their reliance on fossil fuels imported from other countries like R…

I just took a quick look at Simmarket, only to find that there were 14 products in a row just released from the same developer (no need to mention the name), and probably 50% or more of all of the new releases. This is insanity, and it makes searching for products very difficult. It seems that MSFS has unfortunately woken up the money grab market. Cheers, Pete

  12. The Scenario: After takeoff with VNAV SPD as the engaged pitch mode, a Boeing 747-400 has reached the acceleration height and the nose is lowered to pick up airspeed prior to flap retraction My questions: What is the airspeed governing the commanded pitch on the Flight Director bar? is it the retraction speed for the next flap setting, or the maximum speed restriction below FL100 (in come countries)? My understanding of PID control systems logic is that generally rather than approach a target at a rate proportional to the difference between the current value and target value, a fixed rate is used to avoid overshoots, until with a zone of converg…

A few years back Google Earth was the bees knees. Anyone remember that? Anyway, they had a flight simulator of sorts that they never really developed. As I am an avid virtual tourist I thought you might be interested in this. It has been out for a couple of years now. This is no way any sort of competitor for MSFS a crowd called Geo-FS have taken over the reins from Google Earth Flight Sim and you can get a fly anywhere in the world sim on your phone through Google Playstore or the equivalent Apple source. If you subscribe for HD you also get HD, and the images are from Bing. I have not seen any 3D buildings but the ground elevation is right and I can just about make out …

Hello Gentlemen, I was able to get an LCD Monitor Unit that is used to view the cameras outside the flight deck by the pilots, this unit is attached to the aft section of the pedestal on British Airways 747 fleet, I was hoping if someone can provide me with a copy of the SSM / WDM or the CMM for the camera monitor system on BA fleet, this is an airline specific feature that is not available on other airlines. Without one of these diagrams I'm not sure how I can power it up, hopefully someone has a copy to spare with me, will be so appreciated. Regards, Sam

This one's for Martin. Three good ones on Turner Classic Movies last night. Mister Roberts, Twelve Angry Men and The Best Man back to back. They talked a lot about Henry Fonda between the shows. Henry Fonda and Jimmy Stewart were great friends. But they did get into heated political discussions because they had different political leanings. They finally agreed not to discuss politics. But their mutual love of cats kept their friendship alive. Noel

I'm looking for a special German Air Force Tornado with the New Mexico Zia on the tail. There was a permanent German Air Force training squadron at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. The had the north side of the base. They frequently flew over Roswell and landed at the airport. I was still flying at the time and once followed one on the taxiway. I was number 2 to takeoff behind it. I would like an FSX or P3D model of one with the Zia on the tail but all of my searches have found nothing. There is an ai model of one in the SDB scenery and ai traffic for Holloman Air Force Base. Noel

The thread on the new FedEx Cessna has prompted me to post this. Have any of you had a package pilfered that was left by a delivery service from your doorstep? https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/10/package-theft-how-amazon-google-others-are-fighting-porch-pirates.html In the past 5 years or so that I have been ordering from Amazon I suspect only one and I get about 4 or 5 deliveries a month. I suppose it would depend on the neighborhood you live in, the type of dwelling you live in (single family home vs apartment building), and the city you live in. That one parcel that never got delivered was quickly replaced by Amazon. I would suspect that deliv…

For some reason I found this fascinating. Its like those YouTube videos where you see a random person run up to somebody's porch to grab a package and race away. I always wonder about why they do it. Are they bad people? Is it momentary temptation that they give into? Are they just criminals? And then you see the people that set traps and track these people down and/or catch them. Do the thieves regret what they did? Are they mortified? Or are they just sorry they got caught? How did this fellow feel when he saw the police vehicle in front of his house? What will his family think? I don't think I will never understand such people.
