Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX traveled 628 miles (1,008 km) from Mercedes' Electric Software Hub in Sindelfingen, Germany, to the Mediterranean community of Cassis, France, on a single charge. At the end of the trip he still had 13% charge in the battery. https://www.motor1.com/reviews/579810/mercedes-benz-vision-eqxx-first-ride/

I play MSFS. And P3D. And FSX Steam. And DCS. In a moment of sanity, it occurred to me that I like playing (collecting, optimizing, hacking, fixing, troubleshooting) flight simulators more than I do flying flight sims. 🙂

I had my Prius in for service at the Toyota dealership the other day. I went to the sales department and asked when they were going to get the electric cars to sell. I was told that they were working on installing a charging station first. It will be the only one in Roswell. Of course you can charge at home but we are way behind in getting the charging stations. Everything goes someplace. Finding that someplace can be a challenge. We’re looking for someplace to put nuclear waste. We have not yet found a place for plastics. Burning fossil fuels goes into the atmosphere and we are trying to work on that. I was reading a while ago where windmill blades, some 110 feet long, are starting to wear out. They are made of fiberglass. So what to do with them. They have to go someplace. Right now they are being cut up into three sections, loaded on trucks, and delivered either to a landfill or they are simply buried somewhere. But they do not pollute so there is no danger to the environment save the space they take up. I go…

I have been following BAW9L from EGLL to CYYZ and I have noticed on three occasions, FlightRadar24 shows it increasing its altitude by 1000ft at some point along the North Atlantic Track. I have always understood that, when you enter a track, you can't change your altitude or speed until you have exited the other end. Is that not always so or is FlightRadar24 just giving some anomalous readings?

Question for real life pilots… Little off the flight sim topic. I have a real life pilot logbook and I am wondering if there is a good way to digitize it to the cloud, where it would be valid log via the FAA? I can always take pictures with my phone, but I’m just wondering if that would be a legal copy of my logbook? Thanks

From The Aviation Herald: " A DHL Air Boeing 757-200, registration HP-2010DAE performing flight D0-7216 from San Jose (Costa Rica) to Guatemala City (Guatemala) with 2 crew, was climbing out of San Jose's runway 07 at about 09: 40L (15 : 40Z) when the crew stopped the climb at about FL210 declaring Mayday due to a hydraulic failure. The aircraft entered a hold while the crew worked the related checklists. The aircraft subsequently returned for an approach to runway 07 about 50 minutes after departure. After touchdown at 10: 24L (16: 24Z) the crew lost control of the aircraft, which spun around and went off the runway causing the aircraft to break up into two …

Three seasons in, and I still consider Star Trek Discovery to be dreck. Lower decks is kind of interesting, but I don't go out of my way to watch it. And now, the new season of Star Trek Picard has begun, and against my better judgement I took a quick look, and to my surprise, was drawn in. I might even say I was impressed. If they can keep up what they did on this first episode, I would say it's worth a look.... If..... (Warning warning warning! Spoilers Galore!

For the first time in 44 years I won't be attending the Sun-N-Fun event in my back yard. There a lot of memories I carry of this event because I attended the very first grass roots efforts to get it going. Over the years I have had the pleasure of meeting many great aviators and a few that should have stayed home. I took my son on his first airplane ride in the oldest passenger aircraft still flying,,, a Ford Tri motor, the Tin Goose with the oldest senior pilot still flying. Over the years I have met enthusiasts from all corners of our small globe. Europe, Asia, Australia, South and North America, Africa, and Eurasia. I had the pleasure of meeting many …

4 apps, the last 3 are real winners. Everything Search utility. Look how fast the results pop up (3:40). Lots of thread messages in forum asking where a MSFS file is stored or some such. Using Windows search is like a 20 years out of date (it works but WAY to slowly). Trumpet will show more when you click the speaker icon down by the Windows clock. Know what device is default and mix all the sounds in all the apps that are now playing sound. QT puts tabs in file explorer. To jump back and forth between drives and folders instantly when you need to manipulate files.

All the years I have seen these things happen, and I never really understand. I was taught something called Smith System driving, that would (and has) kept me safe from this stuff over the years. I'm always left appalled/astonished when I see such things happening. Its got to be traumatic. Stayed in the darn house, today.

Steals a Cessna 172 in northern Italy, intercepted by a Mirage 2000 in France. Steals a Cessna 172 by forcing a hangar where it was kept in a small airport in Novi Ligure (Northern Italy) then takes off, they were 7 AM, towards France at low altitude, first flying over the Nice apt which had to suspend activities for half an hour and then head towards the base Toulon military man who took off a Mirage 2000 and a helicopter forcing the pilot to land at the Aix-Les-Milles apt, near Aix-en-Provence at 9.05 AM where he was arrested. He had no papers, wore no shoes and claimed to be originally from Slovakia. https://www.connexionfrance.com/article/French-news/Shoeles…

This is mind-blowing! Researchers in Finland have made an incredible breakthrough. By rapidly rotating a superconducting disc at 100,000 rpm, they have achieved antigravity. The secret was a new material that acts as a superconductor at higher tempreture than ever before. They have actually attached the discs to the bottom of craft and achieved sub orbital insertion. Weirdly, the device only works if its modulation coils are cooled with olive oil. I'll post the link later along with more info.
