I was planning a flight from Central Colorado Regional Airport this afternoon and when I looked it up on P3D it had two identifiers, KEAJ and 7V1. When I Google each one they both come up with the same thing. I'm puzzled. I've never run into this before. Noel

What happened to them? March is the windy month and it certainly was windy here yesterday. It got me to thinking about kites. When I was a boy March was kite flying month. The toy department at Woolworth had two kinds of kites. The triangular kites for fifteen cents and box kites for a half dollar. Box kites were wonderful flyers, even in a light wind. Every kid in the neighborhood had a kite. We flew them in school yards, empty lots, in the park, and down at the beach at Aquatic Park. We used send messages up to our kites. A small square of paper with a tear to the center and a hole in the middle. We would slide the kite string through the tear…

Tomorrow morning Betty and I are off on a five week trip to visit her family in Italy. I can hardly wait. The pasta. The wine. And most of all Mama Caruso's pizza. My mother-in-law is 97 years old now. She still lives alone. She still drives a car. She does her own shopping. And she makes the best pizza in the world. Mama was born in Napoli. And from a small child she learned the art of making the finest pizza. I just wish I could bring back a few slices to share with all of you. But I'll be thinking of you... as I raise my glass and say again...life is good.

Can we please dump the continuous pop up Google adverts on the AVSIM site? They make using the site extremely irritating especially when trying to respond to user queries when using an iPad. They are totally irrelevant and of no interest to most users. They pop up blocking a users viewing and reading. I know advertising is necessary to pay for the excellent service but there are limits. The previous side adverts and banner ads are still there but the pop up are the worst form of over commercialisation. Please help users and forum managers.

I just finished watching the Discovery series Flying Wild Alaska, which I found fascinating, especially the croswind stuff. I understand why they try to land one wheel first but I am not sure which wheel. I am guessing that if the wind is blowing right to left you try to settle on the left gear first to keep from flipping over to the left. I can also imagine it would be right gear first to keep the aircraft tilted into the wind. Which is correct? On a side note, the pilots in that show are insane.

With all the talk about FSL lately in P3D and both the FBW and upcoming Fenix in MSFS it got me to thinking why I've never mastered the modern airbus... It's not the old if it ain't Boeing I'm not going adage, I love to fly on them as a passenger, the 340-500 and 600 are still some of my favorite planes and the 350 is incredibly aesthetically pleasing. So why don't I fly them in the sim? My biggest issue with the Airbus line in both the sim and real life is I am SUCH a righty... I mean I try to brush my teeth with my left hand sometimes and I'm lucky to not stab myself in the throat! I've got a pinched nerve that was just released with my cervical fusion s…

I used like to drive long distances. I found it interesting and relaxing and a great way to see America. But if you plan on doing it stay off the Interstate highways. They are made for speed, not for looking around. With careful planning you can drive from coast to coast on secondary roads,,,US and State highways that bring you close to the land and have interesting places to stop. Betty and I were on such trip once and in the middle of Nebraska stopped at a small town diner for breakfast. I like to eavesdrop and listen to what the locals have to say. I heard a great remark in that diner that I have oft repeated. One of the men sitting in the booth behind …

Nobody else mentioned it, so I guess I'll put it up here. One of the crew took lots of movies and still shots back there a hundred years ago. Endurance was found about 2 miles from where it sank. https://www.wsj.com/articles/endurance-ernest-shackletons-lost-ship-found-after-107-years-11646821921

It's not for simming but it's pretty pricey stuff. Between this, the lumbar fusion and fake hip we are starting to really think I'm the bionic man! It's been a really tough few days post op. This is a pretty brutal recovery and for the first 7-10 days literally everything has been a challenge including just breathing sometimes. Today is Day 10 and it's the first time I've felt somewhat human and slept for more than 20 minutes at a time. 7 more weeks in the brace and then they take me in for the f/u procedure on May 2nd but for now I need to focus on the road/runway ahead and be grateful I'm able to travel it at all... Perspective is everything and iss…

Why so many animals, especially cats, have white booties. https://getpocket.com/explore/item/why-do-cats-and-so-many-other-animals-look-like-they-re-wearing-socks?utm_source=pocket-newtab None of my cats have white booties. My back cat and the Russian Blue are unicolor all over. One of the Russian Blue's kittens has black booties. The feral cat that walked in and decided to stay is mixed colors all over but no booties. How about your cats Martin? Noel

Okay, it's not a jet, it's multiple ducted fans but we'll forgive them that. At first glance you would think that lots of mini fans would be inefficient due to the higher RPM required to generate enough thrust. And we'd be right but that only allies to the brief time spent hovering. Most of the flight is in the cruise where the lack of drag from big props pays dividends.
