PMDG DC-6 Cloudmaster

  1. It would be really nice if you could take a version/ panel setup into consideration, which removes all the modern avionics and makes the original radios work. It just doesn't feel right to simulate vintage airliner service using radios from the 80's.. of course I don't know how much effort it would take, but maybe you could think about it. Instead, adding a LORAN simulation would be amazing, maybe as a small paid addon ;)

From what I have seen during my first flights, the AFE adjusts the different power settings using manifold pressure and RPM. However, a setting with a fixed manifold pressure doesn't account for temperature and density correction. On a cold day one could exceed the maximum BMEP easily with a standard setting, while on a hot day the rated power would require more throttle. So.. does the AFE take BMEP into consideration?

In case some of you didn't know, there is actually a performance profile for PFPX included in the documentation folder of the DC-6. If you need help on where to put the files, look to the Intro Manual in the same folder. All the same, some prefer to use the free - and very well put together - SimBrief site to plan their flights. Have a look at the aircraft list near the bottom. They now have a DC-6 profile available for your flight planning needs.

  6. Hi all, Quick question, I just bought the DC-6 few hours ago and so far I love it! Just a quick question regarding the GPS, is there a way the PMDG 430 can be used for flying SID/STARS ? I know this was a limitiation with the default GPS from fsx, but with some aircraft the P3D gps does fine. I'm using FSaerodata with Navigraph to enter all the Sid's star's and navdata into P3D. This is stated on their website, offcourse talking about the default 430 not the PMDG; How can be simulated SIDs and STAR procedures on the GPS units? fsAerodata implements aprox. 65,000 SIDs and STARs procedures that can be simulated using a new feature availab…

Should the instrument panel lights and cockpit lights be dimmable? The rotary knobs suggest that they should be dimmable, but I have no idea what the real aircraft has. Thanks!

  9. Hey all, After flying the two tutorials, I decided it might be a good idea to read up on the autopilot. Are the electrical release buttons modeled in the VC? I just didn't know where to search them based on the description in the POH. What really puzzled me was section 7.13.3 After Starting A-12 Autopilot, in particular Steps 6 and 8: It says to press the electrical release button in step 6, and it should switch off the pilot and altitude control switches automatically Step 7 just checks freedom of movement and Step 8 says the approach-ready light should be on. The first thing that's puzzling is that in chapter 7.9 it says "The approach-ready light in…

I bought the DC6 yesterday and took some test flights. I've some ideas for further updates / improvements. - the default GPS can't be entered via keyboard -> you always enter the same letter twice. Would be nice if this can be fixed - maybe add some notes to the Virtual Copilot Page , like max. manifold and props for T/O , Cruise, Landing and so on ( like A2A do). It's much easier to remind. But it's a great Product ! Philipp

Hi guys, I just bought the DC-6 and am just starting to follow the 1st tutorial. Can someone point me in the right direction to find where the Tutorial #1 Flightplan is saved to. I followed the instructions via menu/flight planner but am unable to find the flightplan anywhere. Are they installed in a specific file? looked everywhere but no luck. Many thanks

Hey there, I have a pretty petty request. I was wondering if it'd be possible in a future update to be able to select whether to have spinner's on the props, or if you could choose just to have the dome shell's. It seems like some operators removed the spinners, ordered them without, or just switched to the hubs as the spinners got damaged. A few airlines come to mind: Delta, United, Northern Air Cargo, Teal, Military operators, JAL, National, American, KLM, Western, Scandinavian, Pan Am, and I'm sure others. If it won't happen, I totally understand. I'm not a programmer, so I don't know what would be involved in adding it as an visual change. I'd imag…

Hi, I was flying between Nassau and San Juan today at 11,000 feet and I had all 4 engines shut down. I looked up at the overhead and I realized that all the main tanks ran dry. I'm aware the fuel system needs to be managed correctly using the tank selector and cross-feed valves, but I thought this was done by the flight engineer ? Thanks.

It's always Christmas when PMDG gives a release. I also want to thank you guys for the effort at making your products compatible with older systems and graphic cards. I know it takes work and sooner or later we all move on with progress but all your planes run fine on my system so count me a grateful customer.

  19. Is there a control assignment to map the Climb/glide wheel in P3D. Could not find this in the docs. I tried the P3D AP pitch rate up/down with no joy. Is there a chance that PMDG could provide a more comprehensive list of DC6 assignments than what is provided in the Introduction doc?

Hi, guys! I'm new to DC-6. I'm having troubles with the autopilot like when I turn on the gyropilot and the autopilot lever the plane rolls to the right when the gyropilot selector mode is set to pilot, I turned both the gyropilot and the autopilot lever on and then I set the gyropilot selector mode to localizer, the plane rolls to the left, and when I turn on the gyropilot and turn on the autopilot lever, and turn on the altitude control the plane dives down towards the ground. Any solution for this problem? Thanks! Cheers, Vincent

Ok, now I have a new weird problem. I am climbing through 15000 ft and the screen went grey and the "debug" window is activated. I cant shut it off, and I have no click spots. It eventually sent my screen to black. So I figure I have done 1 of 2 things. Somehow I broke my sim and I cant fix it, OR did I black out due to lack of pressurization? OK so I was able to undock the DEBUG window and pull it to the bottom of the screen, but it wont close out no matter what I do.

A bit surprised. First time trying the cockpit lighting (using the ramp manager presets) and as soon as I activate either the white or the red preset, my VC FPS are halved from approximately 50-55 down to 20-25. This makes the DC-6 virtual cockpit the most FPS hungry of my entire virtual hangar. A week ago I upgraded my graphics card from the MSI GTX 970 with 4GB VRAM to the MSI GTX 1070 with 8GB VRAM yet this lighting brings it to a painful crawl. Never had any issues with the NGX, 777 or the 747 even when still using the older card and the exact same graphics settings. As soon as the light are turned off, the FPS goes back to above 50. Did anyone else notice such a m…

Hello to all: Before I rush out the door to purchase a Garmin GNS430, is there anybody "out there" who could advise on what can, and cannot, be done with PMDG's custom/native GPS? I particularly would like to know if it is possible to program a flightplan on the PMDG GPS itself. I have looked at the manuals/tutorials and have not been able to find the answer (Tutorial # 1, for example, uses a previously saved FP) Thanks as usual Roberto
