WIN10 OS Forum

WIN10 is the next OS release coming from MS. We are sure there are many questions regarding the use of FSX, P3D, FSX-SE, X-Plane and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it. You can also post questions if you are having problems with WIN10.

  1. I use various tools and add-ons for P3Dv4, for which I have created shortcuts on my desktop. However, some of the shortcuts have become blank out of nowhere at different times. If I right-click on a shortcut to access the properties, I can see the proper symbol in there. However, the shortcut itself is blank. Check the following image. Did this happen to anyone else, and do you know what the solution is to restore the symbols? Advice would be appreciated.

My pc is almost 2 years old now. When built SSDs were kinda pricey so I went with a 500GB SSD for the OS (Win10/64 Home) and flight sim and a 1TB HDD for everything else. When MSFS came out I uninstalled XPlane11 from the SSD and replaced it with FS2020. Everything worked well until today. There isn't room for the 102.82 GB update. So I am downloading it to the HDD not knowing if the sim will access it there or not. At least I can get the sim up and running and go in and limit the scenery cache size. Long term though I am considering options. Most likely is to add another SSD of 1TB and swap MSFS over on to that and leaving it as the sole occupant and Win10 alone on …

I have had no luck with the Windows 2004 or later updates. (They just refuse to do anything and I have tried every method available). However, if I use the reset method and RETAIN NOTHING, then the update takes. Obviously, I then have no programs . My question is, and I think I know the answer already😒 , will I have to install everything again, including P3D and all my airports, planes, ancillary programs etc. or is there by any chance a way to add back the programs from a backup copy? 5. Since this is related to both Win10 and MSFS, I'd be grateful if you could check this thread I started in the MSFS forum, and add your thoughts there rather than trying to jump between them for solutions.

Just asking on here, as there are so many knowledgable people!! My Windows 10 update section is informing me that the 2004 update is now OK for my PC. I tried yesterday 3 times to update ( at a cost of about 3 gigs each time). Each time it downloads, goes as far as installing then restarts, then NOTHING. System info remains at v1909. I don't need to update but it would be nice. Any ideas what could be preventing the update?

Hello, I currently have windows 8.1 and I am running FSX with Acceleration pack as well as many plane, scenery, etc. addons. I am going to upgrade to WIN10 for the new MSFS 2020 but I wanted to ask if I just upgrade my computer, without uninstalling anything, to WIN10 will my FSX install still be there with all of my addons? Thank you so much! Cub M

My user id (which is a yahoo email account) shows as being admin, but I still get that popup about do you want this program to make changes? I've had some other weird permissions issues with my e: drive, which I recently moved to this new system. Is it better to have a local account instead of email? Any other hints about this permission hell would be appreciated.

  9. Hi, I wasn't sure where to post this problem sorry. When I go to Uninstall some of my FSX (FS10) aircraft I get an Error: This error happens with Revo Uninstaller. If I go ahead with the uninstall it deletes all my aircraft in my aircraft folder and all the registry items with those aircraft (I think). If I use Win10 built in Uninstall program it does the same thing but without the warning / error message. If I remove the Premier 1A Aircraft (with it's own Uninstaller) then a different aircraft will appear in it's place with the same warning / error message next time I try to Uninstall with Revo Uninstaller. There seems to be multiple aircraft doing t…

  10. MicroShaft strikes again... Just started my biennial rebuild with a fresh install of Win 10 Pro 2004. As part of the new install I tried to set a 365 day delay in the feature updates as I have in my previous Win 10 builds and, to my shock and surprise, beginning with release of 2004, M$ has removed it from the advanced options page in the settings. Being as that one feature was the sole reason for buying the Pro version in the first place, it gave me a major case of the beak. After some more research, I found that you can still use the group policy editor to defer updates as before. Enter gpedit.msc into the search box. There select Computer Confi…

When I load X-Plane 11 in Windows 10, Bitdefender Global Security Key reports the virus. Does anyone know how to permanently disable real-time virus protection in Windows 10? I can't bear to delete files that thinks "bad" when they are not. I just built a new computer and the only way to shut it down is from the settings window, but when I reboot it automatically turns it back on. I think I was able to permanently disable this from the Group Policy Editor on my old computer, but it seems that in the new Win10 update they made it a bit more difficult.

Hello. I am casting about for assistance uninstalling a program called Simconnect. I intend using it specifically for Flight Simulator Economy which some of you may be familiar with. My problem tho is not with FSE but with Win10/64 Home and uninstalling a game/program already resident on my SSD. I will add the error I receive below. This error seems to say the uninstall can't be done because Simconnect is not there. However it was working fine until a recent update. After I allowed the update to occur my problem started. I wish to uninstall and then (hopefully) reinstall it cleanly so that it will function because nothing I do with it now will make it operate. The error c…

  13. Hi all, I have the Saitek Multi-Panel Autopilot product, and thanks to the SPAD program, I've finally seemed to be able to get it to function, at least as far as the buttons and switches and concerned. However, while the LED display does illuminate to a solid red color, I have yet to actually see any text display on the panel (heading, speed, altitude information, etc). Does anyone know of a way to resolve this? Thanks!

hi guys not sure if anyone can help with this, hopefully someone can. prior to installing msfs 2020 I pre purchased and it looks like a file was created on my E drive which is where I decided I would be installing when I could download the full game. it looks like Microsoft created a folder called windowsApps. However, despite having administrator rights I cannot open this folder to view the contents. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I have already tried to adjusted using the advanced section of the security tab, but the option for full control is grayed out along with most of the other options The only other possibility I can think of is that…

Greetings. I am trying to paste folders into one of MS2020 folders and I ma getting this error: Google shows that the path should be less than 260 characters. I figured that path is about 130 character only, however I still cannot paste folders. I had googled for solutions and I tried to use registry editor (one of common solutions) but still no luck. Another solution was to rename the folder name I try to paste to a shorter one but the folder I am trying to paste is not that long. Renaming did not help. I wonder what else less complex solutions are available. Thanks for help.

I am using MSFS Steam edition. It seems like every time Microsoft updates Windows 10, my peer to peer network that I use WideFS and Active Sky on a remote station stops working. I have complained about it to Microsoft every time it hoses my LAN connectivity. I read that Microsoft has phased or is phasing out the HomeGroup which is basically peer to peer networking. I can ping the FS computer from the Remote computer. Just can’t access the shared folders. I haven’t retested WideFS , as Pete Dowson’s network protocol doesn’t seem to be dependent on Microsoft Network layer. Active Sky uses SimConnect and is dependent on shared FSX …

Anyone knows what's the criteria for an update to Windows version 2004? My 2nd PC with I7-7700K and an older AMD graphicscard has the update already since over a week. My 1st PC with I9-9900K and 2080TI still is on 1909. A search for updates tells me that my PC is up to date, I'm just getting some minor updates, mostly for defender. Karl

  20. Hello, I have updated W10 for the 2004 version recently and ran into the very strange, never seen before problem - the initial loading times while executing the software (all of them, from Chrome to standard File Explorer) increased dramatically. Surprisingly, the performance itself (when the software is loaded) isn't affected at all and it's even better for some programs, but those loading times....oh my god. I did some research, but it didn't help as both my SSD are healthy, paging file is ok. AV is being turned off. Hence I need a help from the community. Thanks Dmitriy

  22. Anyone any idea why all of a sudden, the sound output while flying an aircraft in P3Dv4.5 just goes off? Is this a Windows 10 issue? Windows 10 x64 Pro, and only 2 days ago I updated the Realtek drivers from Realtek's website that took over 2 hours just to download a 252Mb driver file!! I am stumped what else it can be as I have to jiggle the speaker cable to get sound back, so that tells me the on-board sound from the Asus Z87A motherboard is there, but why does Windows 10 just cut it off after say 1/2 hour in the sim?

  23. Hi everyone, I am one of those people who hasn't upgraded to the newest Windows 10 May 2020 update just yet. When Windows Update offered the update I went for it and updated it however I have started noticing Esent 642 errors in the Event Viewer... Since then I have tried twice again to see if it would happen again and so far from my experience yes it did. So my question is whether you guys had the same experience and whether it cleared after Windows got rid of the old version of itself (after 10 days I believe)? I am writing this because it indeed brings a lot of positive changes with regards to P3D5 and graphic performance increase but not sure whether comprom…

I am currently running Windows 7 Pro and as many others wishing to upgrade only to be able to run the new Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. I am currently running Prepar3D V4 with about 215GB of Orbx scenery on a dedicated 500GB SSD and do not want to lose this installation if I can help it.
