WIN10 OS Forum

WIN10 is the next OS release coming from MS. We are sure there are many questions regarding the use of FSX, P3D, FSX-SE, X-Plane and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it. You can also post questions if you are having problems with WIN10.

  2. Win 10 Pro OEM disc--comes with this wretched approach communicating the fricking product key--the web is full of complaints of people scratching too deep, destroying characters in the process. I did peel back the label over top of it to reveal the pink layer. How the heck do I reveal the key w/o destroying it? I tried googling the topic and found nothing but complaints, no solutions....help! I tried scratch gently w/ a guitar pick but didn't remove the pink just put grooves in it. Horrendous trick by MS!

How to configure Saitek Proflight Yoke, Throttle, etc on Windows 10 Hi, I have the following ticket open with Saitek now with Logitech and no one at Logitech is answering. Does anyone on this forum know how to fix this problem? ------- I have a Saitek Pro Flight Yoke system, Radio, switch and auto stack which works when plugged into Windows 7.However I have bought a new gaming PC with windows 10 and even though I have downloaded the latest drivers for these products (64-bit Windows 10) from Saitek/Madcatz site I cannot get past the autorun screen where it asks (and shows a picture) to install the USB connection. The NEXT button is greyed out and I cannot install…

Hi, While I know this is a bit subjective I have a feeling my system has slowed down recently. I've not added any hardware and not added anything in the way of software, so my suspicions are with windows 10 It is like before a program will launch all the files are checked. So i'm thinking something in defender or something similar. I'm not that familiar with the workings of windows, are there any things I can look for, or check and see if my suspicions are correct or anything I can do to speed up programs starting. AV wise I've not got anything on system now because I started getting problems with Kasperski so I got rid of it. and now only have defen…

All of a sudden, just out of the blue, after I had re-installed P3Dv4.5 this afternoon, I now all of a sudden get a faint in grey overdubbed message in lower right hand side of monitor that my current Windows 10 x64 Pro which was upgraded 4 years ago for free with a legit Windows 7 x64 Pro key, needs activation. Eh? Where did that Easter Bunny Rabbit from Microsoft spring from? It has been activated for years that I managed to Update to the Fall Creators Update successfully. If it was not activated as MS claim, how the hell did it Update then? When I try to run Troubleshoot, it comes up with Error Code 0xC00F012. Help please, anyone?

Could anyone kindly shed some light on a very strange Windows 10 x64 Pro behaviour? I downloaded the very latest Realtek LAN driver from the Asus website for my Asus Z87A motherboard, dated 2016, as the current one according to Device Manager is dated 2013, but when I installed it, all of a sudden the Internet now stops working as there is an exclamation mark against that Realtek LAN PCIe GBE Family Controller. Luckily, I had created a Restore point and am thus now bale to access the Internet to type this post. Any assistance, etc gratefully received. EDIT: Tried disconnecting the router; re-booted; uninstalled the 2018 driver; tried to re-install a 2015 WH…

Just about every year something weird happens to my Windows 10 user id. This years sympton is I cannot click on the STart Menu. Oddly, I can press the windows key to fire it up. I tried replacing the battery on my mouse, but I use the mouse with a laptop, so that wasn't it. Also, I could not start Explorer via the mouse. I could start task man and run cmd.exe from there. Anyhow, I tried to restore back, but that didn't seem to help (there only seemed to be two restore points). I ended up having to run a Win refresh and lost all my installed apps and settings. So, I'm in the process of reinstalling my apps. Is there a way to backup my user profile with a…

Hi all, I'm about to install Windows 10 pro on a new build. Are there ant install/turning guides for Windows 10 that are similar to the NickN guides for Windows 7? I though there were stickies in this forum about that, but I don't see them anymore. Rig is for P3DV4 only (FS2020 when available). Thanks!

Not sure if this is the right forum for this topic. I've tried customer support with Fraps many times, the're either sleeping, died, or they don't support their product any more. I record Fraps in PD3v4 in Win 10 and I no longer get any video on playback, I get audio but no video since January. I'm not sure if this is a Win10 update problem or a Fraps issue. Since no response from Fraps, maybe someone here can help or direct me. It records in AVI format and I've tried to convert the file to different formats eg., mp4 etc to see if I can get a video feed, but no go. Thanks in advance, Gnacino

Having now started to use Windows 10 i thought i would try out a few alternatives including the game bar and shadowplay The gamebar works fine however when i try and use shadowplay it records the sound ok but only the first 6 or seconds of video and then the video freezes. Am using a 2080 with Windows 10home and 16gb Ram Any idea what is causing this? kind regards Daz

  11. Two-Three years ago, when MS was offering universal Free Upgrades for OS, took the opportunity to move from my existing Windows 7 64-bit Pro to such a free Upgrade Windows 10 64-bit Pro, so there was nothing to pay or buy. Question for OS wizards here is, I am about to build an Intel 9th Generation-based rig, so can anyone kindly advise how I can re-install that existing Windows 10 64-Bit Pro OS to the new rig without the Licence Key, or if that Key was supplied at the time of that universal Free Upgrade, which I do not recall, where such a Key located? I do not want to pay for an OS I already have. Thanks for any potential answers.

  13. I was happily using Windows 7 till support stopped. I'm now wondering whether to upgrade to Windows 10 (to have safe access to the internet), or stay with Windows 7 to run FSX etc, and dual boot with Linux for net access. I've read several accounts of how difficult it is to get FSX running seamlessly on Windows 10. Has the situation now improved? Is it possible to run FSX on Windows 10 without frequently having to fix and tweak things? I have a new 1TB SSD which I want to dedicate to FSX (and MS Train Simulator). And a separate 2TB HDD for storing data (and on which I might install Win 10 or Linux for internet access).. Grateful for tips please on whether…

What is the current page file size recommendation? It used to be x1,5 to 3 the size of RAM. My RAM now is 32Gb. Will "System managed size" setting have an adverse effect on the SSD (by changing and rewriting all the time)? Thanks.

Guess the European Union will be suing them again... https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2020/01/microsofts-sneaky-plan-to-switch-chrome-searches-from-google-to-bing/?amp=1 Microsoft announced today that, beginning in February 2020, Office365 Pro Plus installs and updates will include a Chrome extension that forcibly changes the default search engine to Microsoft's own search engine, Bing. The change takes place beginning with Version 2002 of Office 365 Pro Plus, and it will affect both new installations and existing installations as they're automatically updated. If your default search engine is already Bing, Office365 will not install the extension. Users who don'…

  18. I have Win7 Professional. I am contemplating the shift to Win10. Quite frankly I'm petrified about my investments in programs that are non flightsim. I recall the couple times I upgraded or had to reinstall Windows and had to spend a week, dawn to dusk, 1000s of coffees to get everything reinstalled and operating and updated again. Apparantly, most of our P3DV4.5+ and XP11.4+ will work although I did hear that the Flight1 GTN will stop working. What I am particularly concerned with are my many other things I use my PC for. I have some 12 HDs, six with six backup copies. Many are just data of course, especially bizillons of digital photos, terabytes of home …

I am contemplating updating to Windows 10. I know most people have reported the process is now rather seamless, and a lot of the problems found early on are gone. My concerns aren't more with small things. For one, email. I use Windows Live Mail, which came with Windows 7. I do have gmail, but primarily use my home cable internet for email. I have a lot of saved emails that I am not prepared to lose, and forwarding or printing is just too much effort. Does the update-only using the Media Creation tool wipe out the emails? I've read that it will, but that post was pretty old. Otherwise, I'll have to wait until my next PC build, which will be geared towards MSFS 20…

Hi Guys, So Win slipped another update on me while I wasn't looking. I think its at 1809 now. Some of my Saitek instruments don't work with this update. And following the directions to go back to 1803, it says "you can't go back". Any ideas? If I reinstall windows it will have the latest update? And that won't work for me. 1803 works for me. How can I do this??

Hi, Bit of a long shot, but anybody have any thoughts on why this is suddenly happening? For years ive used ultimate zip for unzipping any files and because ive assosiated these files with this program all i needed to do was double click on the file and ultimate zip would launch and i could then unzip the file. About a week ago this all suddenly stopped and double clicking the file does nothing. Ive tried uninstalling ultimate zip and reinstalling then re assosiating the program with zipped files but still nothing. If i open ultimate zip then select the zipped file to unzip it works as normal but simply double clicking on the file no longer works. Any ideas …

I should be building a new PC over Christmas, and I think it may be a good idea to finally make the move to Windows 10 at the same time. I do not want to go down the "upgrade from Windows 7" route, so what options do I have with respect to purchasing a new copy of Windows 10? Will there be any "Black Friday" or "Cyber Monday" sales that I can access to save me some cash?
