WIN10 OS Forum

WIN10 is the next OS release coming from MS. We are sure there are many questions regarding the use of FSX, P3D, FSX-SE, X-Plane and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it. You can also post questions if you are having problems with WIN10.

  1. Does anyone know how I can permanently disable this. I can't stand how it deletes files that it thinks are "bad" when they aren't. I just built a new computer and can only disable it through the Settings panel, but when I reboot it automatically re-enables itself. I was able to permanently disable this on my old machine through group policy editor I believe, but looks like in the new 2004 update they made things a bit more difficult.

Has anyone experienced this first hand and if so discovered what was their issue? Got so frustrated that I did a fresh format/install of Windows 10 but it is creeping up again. So it's either a hardware, driver or software issue... ha! That cuts it down. Added a new CPU, new Motherboard, tested RAM and HDDs. SO now I am leaning towards USB connections. Yes, I have read up on the issues and tried I think all of them but still researching. Hence if any simmer has had this and fixed it I would be curious to see what the issue was. Happy 4th

  3. I have several apps/programs in my uninstall list under Win 10 that no longer exists on my machine. Not sure what happened. Could be to a uninstalling it unproperly or corrupted files. However I want to remove those apps from showing up in the Uninstall/Add Programs pane. I can't uninstall it because the files required for that are missing. So is there another way for me to remove the stuck app from showing up in the list?

  4. I will be building a new computer soon and would like to know about the different type of activation licenses. There's OEM and Retail. I heard that OEM is much cheaper but if you upgade your computer such as change out the GPU or RAM, etc it will void your license and then you have to purchase a new one. Is this true? If that's the case, then it would be better to spend a little more to get the retail license instead, especially if you plan on keeping your machine for a long time and plan on upgrading it later.

Hello. When I accessed p3d.cfg file I chose option 'Open with' Notepad and accidentally clicked Always Open check mark. Now all my cfg like files are shown as notepad. These type of files look like Notepad even though extention still sown .cfg. I cannot figure out how to revert it back to cfg format. Thanks for looking.

Hello, I recently had to do a full wipe/windows 10 reinstall due to a poor windows 10 update that left my PC flailing around like a wounded pigeon. After about 2 weeks, I have managed to get P3D back to where it was before, running quite smoothly, at around 30 FPS. However, I’m plagued by a stutter/long frame every so often which looks as if it’s being caused by SQL Server Windows NT. This service starts up randomly and peaks at 10-15% CPU usage, which seems to fall into line with the P3D Stutter. I have read up on this programme and it seems to be non essential to windows 10, so I run task manager and stop the service which seems to help the stutter…

Hi folks, I have a problem on my laptop which is causing me problems in my networked setup as I cannot point my AS16 application to my P3D files on the computer. I can access the PC’s files manually from my laptop if I type \\COMPUTER NAME into Windows Explorer but it doesn’t automatically appear in my laptop ‘network’ screen in Windows Explorer (interestingly my laptop appears automatically on my PC). This means I can’t select my shared P3D files on my PC through the AS16 setup. I’ve set my Windows hosts file, done all the necessary network sharing things and made sure the various services involved are running and in ‘automatic’. Is there anything else you can sugge…

  13. Everytime I try to update from 1909 to 2004, upon boot up I get a BSOD. something about page fault in akdsys. I couldn't catch the message soon enough before the computer reverted back to my previous install. I have tried several times, and it's always giving me a BSOD. Any ideas what is causing it not to boot up?

Hi guys, Hopefully some one can offer a solution or better still a fix Yesterday I got the message that I can upgrade to windows 10 2004 update which I did. However after restarting I had several devices that had stop working or had disappeared. After a little troubleshooting I think I have found the problem. The devices that had stopped working were all in usb 3 ports (the blue ones) as soon as I plugged the devises into non blue usb ports they all started to work again. As I do not have many spare usb 2 ports left, how do I check if its a usb 3 problem or with the update to 2004 stopping usb2 devices working in a usb3 port or has the update done something…

I guess some of you guys have experienced this. It happens mainly when I start P3D 4 but occurs with other apps , FSX steam seems to work OK . The history of the problem started with me running PMDG Operations center 2, which said there was an update. When I tried to install the update, it wiped out Operations Center 2, and when I tried to find it I messed up some files. I was able to do a restore to 2 days back and most things work partially. The desktop is screwed up partially. I am pretty computer literate but don"t want to get expensive help if I can fix it myself. Any help appreciated Ron Service

  19. Hey guys, Looks like the people at MS has fixed the VRAM issue which was in the build 1909. It is back to where it was. On start up or just when everything is closed - VRAM consumption is 500MB - which has usually been the case as before. Things are back to normal. I am the latest Release Preview which should be approach final or this is it for May 2020 Feature Update. Your sims and gpu will thank you. Remember you DO NOT need to look at your gpu memory consumption - this is not FSX or system memory. Things go back and forth with VRAM. It looks like a super stable Windows 10 Release. I am loving it. https://blogs.windows.com/window…

  21. Since the dawn of SSD's I've always kept my flight sim and OS on the same disk. For 6.5y I used Win 7 and P3D 3.x, never did one Window update, and all stayed stable and clean. I only used this drive for FS so very little need for security software and it worked flawlessly for that 6.5y. I recently build a new machine in installed Win 10 latest build 2m ago and let it update itself as it would do, and so far alls's well. I really like Win 10 now, but I would much prefer to avoid any security or other updates as long as P3D doesn't require the update. Is there any way to do this? I did find the control to postpone the next update til a specific future date but then i…

I have 4 PCs (I'll call them PC1, PC2, PC3, and PC4) all running Win 10/64 Home (Ver 1903, OS Build 18362.720). They are all connected via a wired switch. I've setup all of the drives to be shared on the private network. One PC (PC3) can see all of the other PCs and seems to implement sharing nominally. This suggests that the drives are setup to share correctly since at least one PC can see/manipulate all of the drives on all of the PCs. The other 3 PCs can only see PC1 and not the other 3 PCs. I use Input Director with PC1 as the master and the others are slaves. I can move the cursor across all 4 PCs. I can also use the keyboard across all 4 PCs…

  23. I have a new Windows 10 install, and also a new P3D build. Hi Fi Active Sky has alerted me that it can't monitor ambient conditions and needs access to my (x86) folder. I went to that location and attempted to change permissions - and I can't. I also tried other, non P3D folders with the same result. Odd? I seem to have been able to change permissions readily before - this is an administrator account. I could use some insight. Again, new Windows 10 build - I just did a re-install to (ironically) sort out some issues with P3D!! https://app.photobucket.com/u/snip227/p/0778904f-8182-486e-919d-13391db6f627 https://app.photobucket.com/u/snip227/p/59d14545-df94-4968-8…

  25. This is a minor annoyance but it is what it is. I use the Win 10 app Groove Music to play music while flying and it really works well for this, especially since the Win 10 keyboard I'm using lets me turn music on and off with a button press. Under Sound Properties in Win 10, on the Communications tab, one has the option having the OS do nothing when it detects communications type audio is playing, or having it automatically lower the volume of other audio while communication is playing. At first glance this doesn't seem bad as one might for example be able to hear ATC better as the OS interprets it as communication activity so lowers competing audio. So in this situat…
