WIN10 OS Forum

WIN10 is the next OS release coming from MS. We are sure there are many questions regarding the use of FSX, P3D, FSX-SE, X-Plane and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it. You can also post questions if you are having problems with WIN10.

Hi, I have the issue that my pc doesn't shut down. Always when I turn it on in the morning it need my to press two times the power button. I have checked with the tool "pc time on/off" and it shows that the computer is running all the night, even thought it looks shut down. Using Windows 10 with all updates installed. Why is that?

After I upgraded from FSX-Steam to Prepar3d v4.5 I started experiencing CTDs connected with dlls like atioglxx.dll Kernalbase 32.dll for example. Always while using RXP GTN in the A2A Bonanza although it did happen once with the default Lionheart Mooney. So, in frustration I did a nuclear reinstall of Windows 10 and had to rebuild all my software. Took weeks with my available time. However, I didn't know until yesterday how to totally turn off windows 10 update so now several updates since spring and now my CTDs are back. I Don't want to go nuclear again so I am considering a keep files reinstallation. Will that download the latest copy of Windows 10 or a stock …

Hello, I have an intermittent issue when I try to use Add/Remove Programs often it works normally, but sometimes (like right now) it just loads up a blue screen with the little white "gear" logo in the middle and never proceeds past that to populate my list of programs etc. SOmetimes it will just stay like that and then close itself, sometimes it will eventually proceed to list the programs. Couldn't really find anything useful on google...any thoughts?

In my new rig I have a single, 1TB NVme 2 SSD disk, and while I did buy a 2nd 500 GB NVme for the sims, I ended up rushing my installation and droping it all into partition = disk = C : in the 1TB disk... In the past I used a dedicated system partition, and whenever possible would install flightsims into a 2nd disk / partition, and even used to have a separate partition for the cache ! Question: does it still matter ? Should I still install Win 10 and applicatons into different partitions and preferably disks too ? What are the real advantages these days ? I have 32 GB RAM too. Thanks for any comments / recommendations !

I have a 500GB SSD with two partitions D and G. I have FSX on D and MSFS2020 on G. There is unused space on the D partition which I would like to transfer to G as MSFS2020 is starting to fill up G. I know there are several partition managers available as well as the windows disk management facility. Is there a safe way to do this without messing up either FSX or MSFS2020. For instance if I shrink D by say 50 GB how do I move this space to the G partition. I am reluctant to experiment with this as I am afraid it will mess up either FSX or MSFS2020 or both. Be grateful for some expert help. Bob Palmer

  7. I'm running the Win 11 dev preview and I've been trying to troubleshoot a process that is delaying windows shutdown. 11 was running perfectly, I'm pretty sure I caused it by updating some software on my system, I think either Asus Armory Crate or Asus GPU Tweak III. (GPU Tweak III is pure trash) Anyway, that's kind of besides the point. So I was using an application called Process Monitor or ProcMon, just looking for anything blatantly obvious. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procmon I have an Asus motherboard, Corsair Lighting Nodes, and an NZXT Kraken Z73 AOI watercooler. For the associated software, I have Asus Armory…

  8. I just noticed this a few hours ago. I left my computer running all day and came back and saw this weird weather thing on my taskbar on the bottom right. How did it get there, and what exactly is this? I don't recall updating my Windows at all. And most importantly, how can I permanently get rid of it?

Hello All, Am unsure whether this is the right (sub) forum – no doubt someone will put me right. I am about to purchase AivlaSoft EFB and need a little advice. Currently I have a desktop running FSX on W10 plus a new laptop also running W10 - both have plenty of grunt and both access the internet through the same router located adjacent to both PCs. As suggested by AivlaSoft I want to run FSX and the EFB Server on the desktop with EFB Client on the Laptop. I am somewhat nervous as I have read many posts suggesting W10 has made even setting up a simple small network somewhat difficult. Being a total newbie to networking I am asking wheth…

  14. Greetings. I recently purchased an MSI GE75 Raider Gaming Laptop, i7-10875H, 32 GB, Nvidia RTX2070 Super (Mobile), 17" 300 Hz panel , SSD. Very happy with it. Question: How can I choose a refresh rate other than 60 or 300 (those are the only 2 options presented in Display Settings -> Advanced Display Settings -> Refresh Rate drop down). I notice the Advanced Display Settings is "connected to Intel UHD Graphics" with no way to change that to the dedicated card. Finally, if there is a way to do this in Nvidia Control Panel, my old eyes have not found it 🙂 I would like to experiment with other values, i.e. 30, 60, 75, 100, 150, 300 refresh rates. Than…

  19. I bought a new SDD entirely dedicated to MSFS. However, although MSFS is correctly installed on the new E drive, apparently the Community folder (located in my MSFS on E drive) was automatically mirrored (duplicated) on my previous C drive that was supposed to be only for Windows 10 and P3D, hence taking away disk space on C. Furthermore, I noticed that if I install any add-on in the Community folder located on E, it may not work, whereas if it is installed on the Community folder on my C drive, it works correctly. Could someone please explain the rationale for that and if there is any way to rectify this, in short: keep that Community folder on my E drive if at…

Hello, my Logitech X-52 is no longer being recognized by Windows 10 (Shows up as an unknown USB device). It does not power up at all when plugged in. I have tried this method which i have always seen succeed in forums: -Download latest drivers and when prompted to plug in x52 pro go to Device Manager. -Find the USB symbol with a triangle /red exclamation mark. Right click and choose to Update drivers. -Select the option that doesnt automatically update drivers. Instead select the USB driver to install yourself. -Select generic usb. However, once i select the device in the drivers menu, it tells me that it "Found drivers but encountered an error wh…

  21. I recently installed a new SSD entirely dedicated to MSFS, everything went very well, except that I am experiencing a number of frustrating problems with messages indicating that my file name or path is/are too long. I have enabled Long File Paths in my registry, however this has not changed anything. I am, for example, trying to simply install an aircraft livery and there again comes the message. I shortened the name of the file to no avail. When i installed my E drive for MSFS, Windows 10 Home crated its structure itself with a ridiculously long name with an incredible number of ... numbers (I lost count). Then MSFS created also its own identity with further digits…

A quick search here did not yield a result, so here goes... With P3D running, my mouses’s cursor just disappears from the screen. The only way for me to recover it is to hit Ctrl/Alt/Del. Sometimes, that fixes it, and the cursor stays for a while, sometimes I have to do that multiple times for the cursor to remain visible for any length of time. I don’t see this problem unless P3D is active. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks. Scott

Windows 10 updated the other day and all was fine until today. I had installed an updated Realtek sound driver yesterday, but after having issues with no sound I restored the computer to a state before I had updated. I get onto my computer today and it just won't boot into Windows. My motherboards Q-Code is AA but it isn't booting to Windows it is stuck on the Asus Republic Of Gamers logo screen or the screen is just black. Attempting the troubleshooting method in the advanced options I am hitting a brick wall as I cannot click on anything. When I click on say Command Prompt it is just high lighted in white and nothing else happens. I have never had such issues befo…

Some weeks ago, I detailed my problems in upgrading W10 1909 to 2004 and later. I am still in the same position but have now had a new thought, about which I need help. To recap: the ONLY way that the upgrades work is if I "tell" the Windows Upgrade to delete all my folders and settings. It will then install a vanilla Windows quite happily. (Every, and I mean every, other way leads to a roll back). Unfortunately, that means all my P3D xml files, licences and other things are gone. What I am now thinking is, is it possible to add those files, folders etc. back into the updated Windows from a backup copy of Windows? Or is there another way? I could…
