Some of you might have already seen this. I haven't seen any of the crashed DC-3's myself as I'm usually flying at night on clandestine missions where these are supposedly located. I guess now I'll get my chance to see one. Enjoy.

It does look much more like a Beech D-18 in size. Except the Beech had a twin tail. A DC-3 is of course much larger and has 3 bladed props. Anyway I did gain access to the cockpit as you can see. I think this is the only object that I have come across that is not really there at all. Steve

I don't think anyone will have any trouble collecting this one. Also, it seems the new AOTD's are being posted around 1400 hrs. Eastern time. They used to be posted around 1500 hrs Eastern. Maybe this gives everyone and extra hour? Probably not. Enjoy.

Sitting on the runway at Skagway with the engine shut down I can hear rhe wind blowing and hear the rain pitter pattering off the wings of the Cubby. If you take off on runway 2 and clear the trees you will see a nice, very low bridge. I water skied under the bridge and ran smack into an "anomaly of a waterfall". It is fun to land the cub from the other direction and ski off the waterfall and touch down in time to ski under the bridge. Take off again, clear the trees and land on runway 20. There is just enough clearence to fly the Icon under the bridge without touching the water but it is tight. The Icon will float down the waterfall with no power but the water is really …

Today we get to go lake hunting in the mountains of Alaska. Enjoy.

  6. Started by 188AHC,

We get to go glacier hunting again. I'll land on this one just like I did at Mendenhall. The CC is great for these. Enjoy.

Here's one for the high flyers. This could be a challenge depending on which a/c you use, the weather you choose, and the season. Sounds like a fun one. Also, 5k XP. Enjoy.

Just South of Oyster Cove where the strip is on a plateau and is very short, you will find Jakoloff Bay: Yikes! Looks good, so I have to try it. Not much of a landing strip, it is? Very, very short, and not very wide either. If you don't land right on the centerline, you will crash into those trees that are so close on the side. Or fall off the end of the runway! I'm sure that others love this kind of landing. By the way, the real Jakoloff Bay strip is just a gravel bar on the water's edge, so this is clearly a bug. Probably the data source had the airport elevation wrong,…

  10. If you don't normally visit the Microsoft Flight website, in the news updates there are a couple of interesting items. The Sugar Mill AOTD in Hawaii is being made a permanent cache. So if you missed this one, you will have an opportunity to collect it. Also, if you want to vote on the next permanent aerocache, you have to go to the Microsoft Flight page in Facebook to vote. It seems that the team is concentrating on making the cache hunt a priority now as it has become one of the most if not the most popular segment of the sim. I say good for them and us.

So. The Microsoft Flight Steam forum has acquired another moderator, by the name of Kittychix. Kittychix seems quite enthusiastic so far, and has already posted in that forum as well as posting a new blog and posting on the Facebook page. Take a look!

I was flying around the Kenai Peninsula and came upon the kind of strip that I really love - a very STOL... on a plateau! Not only that, but over trees while diving pretty much straight down because of the hills on Final. This is Oyster Cove - what a wonderful place. With a 14 kt crosswind, I guess I could have taken it from either direction. But, it is no fun coming in over the water, so I went around and approached from over the hills: Pretty much just point the nose straight down! Then, try your hardest to bleed the speed off as quickly as possible. Stand on the brakes! Not much runwa…

It sits on the Alaska Marine Highway's Inside Passage. Lots to see here and the airport is on a bluff directly accross from the port area. Great detail with the harbor every where you look. I love the huge cargo unloading crane and the container ship. The cruise ship is also highly detailed. Just wish I could get aboard and look around. One interesting note about all the trawlers in the hardor and everywhere else in Alaska for that mater. They are all the same except for some suttle differences in structure right down to the big gash on the side. The gash is repeated on the other side as well. The only other difference is the colors used. Of course all ships and boats are…

If you got the "Retired Dredge" AOTD for 11/6, then this one shouldn't be much of a problem. I saw at least 3 separate dredges while flying around Nome. Enjoy.

Tonight I was hitting random airports and decided I wanted to find an airport at the base of a hill or mountain. I jumped about 15 miles south of Healy River in squall weather so I was peaking at 40 knot cross winds. All of a sudden after a go around at low altitude, I saw smoke and a light. This has probably been covered before but the detail astonished me of this smoke stack (whatever it is supposed to be). Just making a point that even at the most random times, I find something that makes me go, "neat".

I have reinstalled Microsoft Flight but when I sign in I get this message I tried this http://steamcommunit...60163767318406/ But didn't work. Sent a email to [email protected] but haven't received any answer. I am pretty sure I am signing in with the same account that I used to download and purchase the game in the first place so that can't be the problem. Any ideas?.

After I found today's aerocache, I checked the job board at JP. I was greeted with a short 30 mile approx. flight to Kake. Since I was in the CC, I decided to give it a go. Leaving Johnson-Peterburg, real time, real season. Sights along the way. Look at all the trails. Getting close. Downwind at Kake. On final. Fun trip with good scenery along the way. I like how the ice is fairly realistic with floes and solid near shore along with the frozen rivers and lakes.

  20. I love to explore. There is so much to see in the world and not enough time for even the smallest portion. So, whenever I see something interesting, and just about everything is interesting, I yearn to go and investigate. That mountain range in the distance looks fabulous, maybe I should go take a look. What's that up ahead? A bridge? Got to fly under it. Whenever I see a river such as this, it is like an invitation to follow it and see where it leads. The sun is shining bright, what a wonderful day! Another invitation to go somewhere new. If I had followed it, I would have vis…

Cool. Don't think we've had a tunnel before. Something odd, however. Microsoft's site shows the XP for this one as 200. Don't know about that. Guess we'll have to find the cache to see. Enjoy.

After I collected the aotd on Fire Island and landed at the airport, out of curiosity I checked the job board. There was a short cargo flight to Wasilla Creek Air Park (05AK) so I decided to take it. Nice flight in the CC between 1500 and 2000 ft. with a 14kt. crosswind. About 14 miles short of 05AK, I look down and saw this: Just look at the detail. Cars in the parking lot, the fairways, greens, and traps, the fall colors, the complex buildings. I keep being amazed at the work that went into the graphics of this sim.

37 miles with the Cubby into a 23 knt head wind with 3 Passengers. Didn't think I would ever get there! I had happy passengers all the way untill the landing. They all got violently sick all over the inside of the aircraft on touch down after I had to sideslip in and landed hard to keep it on the runway in the crosswind. But after parking she thanked me for a nice trip and hoped to fly with me again. Really beautiful area around Palmer Muni. Lots of airports in the area too. I must have passed very slowly over a dozen on the way in.

I for one, really miss you here! It's just not the same any more. But we are doing our best to carry on. So many have fallen by the way-side lately. But we seem to be picking up some new people here and there and some others have returned to get some flying time in. None of us can spend the time with Flight that we once did. Steve
