PMDG MD-11 (Legacy Version)

    Hi everyone, I purchased the MD-11 recently and I've run through the tutorial a few times now to get used to it, everything is going well, apart from the automated feature which involves the aircraft levelling off at 10000ft during descent in order to lose speed and to meet the 250kts restriction. However, every time I have done this it seems to have just continued with the descent and not levelled off or lost speed. If someone could shed some light on this it would be very much appreciated.     hi Captains,I start FS9 MD-11 in 2D window mode with 2 24" monitors. Left site is cockpit only, right the panels.Load manager is set to "wide screen" and monitor resolution is 1920x1200.Only MD-11 does not startup the cockpit with usable and stored left window position.Right screen is fine at every load. Hi all,Recently I purchased the MD-11.Last saturday I bought the VR Insight Hat Track.If these 2 work fine together I am going to keel the Hat track ; if not I have to return it before saturday.OffcoarseI am going to read / follow the tutorial , but now I want to make a short test flight .I start up at the runway and manually take off.Then I choose speed / heading / altitude.Then I pressed Prof and Nav and Autoflight.I can see that the autopilot is in command.The altitude is working fine, however the speed stays at 237 ( flying at 12.000 ft and set at 260 ) and the heading does not change to what I have set.Any advice ?

    The tutorial included in my MD-11 install (PMDG MD-11 Tutorial1.pdf) mentions some things which will not be covered, as these will be covered in an "advanced tutorial". Is this still "in the works", or is it already available somewhere?Also...what would be the chances of getting a tutorial (advanced or otherwise) using non-metric numbers for weights, etc.?Thanks!     Hi Folks,Can someone help me out here, I have just installed the MD-11 in FS9 & started out on the tutorial flight, I got all the way to BLM went to load the STAR as per the tutorial and NO STAR.OK, I had a similar problem ages ago when the 747 first came out, so I updated my SID/STARs from Navdata to 0901 and tried again, NO STAR. I went back to Navdata and downloaded the PMDG All Products SID/STAR for LSZH, installed it to the PMDG SIDSTARS folder and tried again.This time just sat at the gate at EGLL I tried to load the STAR for LSZH as perscribed in the tutorial, guess what... NO STAR.Anyone got any ideas on what I need to do to resolve this issue?TIANigel Crump.

    Hi.I noticed this evening that I'm having trouble trying to use the radio in the MD11 when on VATSIM via Sqawkbox.All I get is the error sound when trying to transmit voice.I can tune to the controller, and hear them, but not transmit anything as comm1 seems to be playing up.It just goes straight to comm2 displaying the MIC button on comm2 as well.anyone else had this problem at all.Thanks for any info on this.

    Was wondering if anyone knew what the average turn around time on an MD11 Freighter. For example, I know Fedex has late afternoon arrivals into many out stations from KMEM and KIND which in turn don't leave back to the hubs until later that night.     What i normally do is, when i construct my flight plan on the ground into the FMC, i also add the STAR for the arrival airport if there is one. And as for the landing runway, i wait until i get closer to the airport to figure out which runway to use. But when i enter the LAT REV page, and choose a runway, the FMC adds the runway and also enters the STAR again. so, i will have my normal flight plan, then after the STAR, and f-plan disco, the STAR once again, and then finally the runway. and i make sure to enter the runway from the lat rev page of the last waypoint, not the destination airport. so what i have to do it manually clear the second star. am i doing something wro…

    Once again, I'm going to guess that PMDG was faithful in it's reproduction of the real world MD-11 FMS. If so, why in the world would MD require a pilot to do geometry calculations just to figure out what the wind component is, before entering it into the FMS? If the runway or flight leg has a crosswind it becomes very difficult to figure out what to put in the FMS. I can't see pilots having to do math calculations, for every leg of the flight? And I don't see how only being able to enter head or tail wind can allow the FMS to account for a crosswind? Still buried in manuals and very confused on this point. Victor Buck

I was using RADAR contact with no departure procedures (ATC vectors me onto course). I was given clearance to take off from runway 8R and to fly heading 110 after passing 2000ft ASL; the following occured:1. Pressed "autoflight" and "prof" to arm the autothrottles and vertical profile; I then advanced the throttles to start my takeoff.2.     While reading the FMS manual, I came accross a statement that "VOR mode is only available below 18,000 feet" (FMS.10.35). I'm a bit confused as this is the first of my many aircraft with this restriction. I'm going to guess that PMDG was faithful in it's reproduction of the real world MD-11 FMS, so...why is it there? How does one, then, fly to a VOR, along a chosen radial, when above 18,000 feet? Thanks for any enlightenment.Victor Buck

    First, please don't get me wrong, the MD-11 and all the material that comes with it are "superb" and a real masterpiece (though I guess the product will see a service pack ;-) ) and I purchased it immediately and are now a proud MD-11 student.Where much light is, there's always a little shadow as well, and while studying the plane, I regard the manuals to be a little disappointing for at least my taste, regardless of the volume they have:In the first place, I miss a much more complete description of all the possible symbols on the EIS screens, and I wish there were more flow diagrams for systems like fuel and the like.
