Captains-My friend Steve B and I are working out some fuel calculations to arrive at definitive fuel planning strategies and obviously cost index plays a large role in these, so here's are the questions-1) REAL WORLD OPERATORS- would you share your airline's CI with us?2) VIRTUAL AIRLINE DISPATCHERS- please also share your CIs.3) Captains, please share what you habitually use.I imagine 99 is fairly unrealistic, especially with fuel costs being what they currently are....so lets get a handle on this thing!Thanks!Best-Carl F. I've just got the rig running in (Nvidia) Dual-View on a 19" and a new 42"-er. I have to select the 42" as the primary monitor, but when I do, FS9 gives me a 1920X1080 resolution selection in the hardware tab. The sim loads up the PMDG 744, and runs fine on the 42"-er at 1920 X 1080. Every thing works. I spend some real time in that real seat and the view feels "life sized." Actually, it feels as if I'm tOO close to the panel. Sugggestion for the new 744 & MD11: Allow and option to ReMOve the pilot and 1st Oberver's seat. At least for the PMDG airplane (and I suspect most others with these big views) the pilot seat needs to be RemoVed. At this screen size, it feels th…

Hello,I did a flight yesterday in my PMDG 737 all was fine. I went back to it today and this is what the panel looked like:I done a fresh install of PMDG with all updates and I have no idea why this has happend. Very strange. This is looking at the 738 and yes I have the 736 and 737. I think I may have installed somthing today but can't quite remember what I installed for the PMDG. I have removed and reinstalled everyting to do with PMDG today. Twice...why is this happening when I had the normal panel with no ECIAS problems. I have FSUIPC 3.75 for FS9.CheersBilly

I am having all sorts of problems with the autopilot. I installed the Sound V1.0r0 upgrade from the PMDG web site. After the installation, I find that regardless of the speed that I am flying, I get a red ribbon (blocks) in the PFD along the speed dial.I recently tried flying the tutorial in the PMDG printed manual. I was unable to get beyond 196 knots. I engaged the VNAV and LNAV and then at about 1,000 feet I turned on the autopilot. Soon I heard an awful noise RA TATA and VNAV went out and FLCH was engaged automatically. I began to lose speed. When I reached cruise altitude, I tried to engage the VNAV and LNAV and the autopilot. Same thing happened again. The aw…

Some years ago BMI crashed in the UK when the pilots shut down the wrong engine.Although passengers saw flames coming from the left engine the pilots mistakenly shut down the right engine.I understand that now some aircraft incorporate a camera in the tail so that there can be visual confirmation of a fire before shutting down an engine.Do any of our PMDG aircraft have such a facility or, if not, is it a possiblity for future PMDG aircraft?Cliff

I have the V1.1 PMDG 747-400 with the Universal Sound update V1.0roinstalled. I also have FSUIPC (registered). I have read all the posts which may relate to my problems. I also have calibrated my joystick.I have several problems.1. I cannot keep the VNAV connected in the autopilot mode. I get a RAT TA TA sound and the VNAV is disconnected, and my speed begins to drop. I must use the ALT Hold and the Speed Select in order to fly the aircraft. This happens dispite the flight plan being correctly inputed in the FMC.2. I get the red band (red blocks) along my speed dial in the PFD even though I am flying at a low speed (220 kts) with flaps up and the trim controlled by…

Hi all,Once again sorry for my HUGE mistake and I hope we can get along.Anyway, I've noticed that when I'm autolanding the 747 at any airport I could be at 2000 ft for the start of the approach and select approach hold and the aircraft would start descending. Then the "Glidescope" callout would be heard for about 5 seconds and then it would go silent for the rest of the approach yet it shows I am bang on glidescope from the bars beside the Flight Director and on the approach page on the ND(cant remember what they're called-help me out).I would be using autothrottle at about 150-170 with flaps 30 (depending on gross weight) and on a clear day.Any help will be greatly apprec…

How are the doors opened in the PMDG 747? I have tried Shift+E,Ctrl+Shift+E and nothing happens. Do the doors open? If so how? Thanks.Stanner

Hello,I'm not sure if anyone who has been in a 737 realized, but they have a unique 'BARRRRRRRR' like sound during take off and clb stages... The stock soundset from PMDG doesnt really have this... so I was just curious if anyone has a link to something they can reccomend which resembles more of a 737NG engine :)you can hear it on this one for example...

I've noticed that since I have done a reinstall, there are some major issues with the aircraft. The flight is all planned as normal. Get the weights and all that, load the fuel correctly for the flight. I run through the flight and everything acts and runs normal. However, I'll get in flight at around 1.5 to 2 hours in. I'll start to hit bumps and whatever else. The funny stuff starts happening. The speed starts to die off, and no matter how hard the engines try, they cannot keep up. I've even tried setting it to CON thrust, to no avail. Right now it is BARELY holding speed, and that's after it took 20 minutes to increase the speed 20 knots. The aircraft just doesn't have…

Hi all-Still using FS9 until the 400x is released, so I don't really want to spend a lot on scenery (unless there is a reasonable FSX upgrade offered). What 747-400 useable scenery would you recommend? It must give good detail (must be a nice imporvement from default), must NOT impact frame rates, and must be downloadable. MOST IMPORTANT TO ME IS THE NO FRAME RATE IMPACT. I have only seen this with VERY FEW addons- hence, the only add-ons I have kept are the Cielosim Environment product, the KaiTak98 and Holger's stuff- Innsbruck and Glacier Bay. The 747 can use Kai Tak and the 737-700 gets in and out of LOWI ok. I would love to find some others- PARTICUALRLY UK scene…

Hi guys,I took a long flight. At the final altitude (FL370) the Queen goes well ,but after while, the Queen turned to the right out of the routeand continued to go that direction until I got back to my computer and corrected the direction,(it gave me lots of wrong messages since the LNAV has been disconnected and cannot be connected till you get back in the line of the route).what causes the Queen to behave like that? what is the reason ?is it LNAV problem ? But I have the latest update!!I don't think it's because of the 60 knots cross winds, the Queen is bigger than to be played by winds.Do I have to be in front of my computer for 6 hours ?Abraham

I notice that, I can't start my engines until the fuel switch is on?Is this a bug? I noticed on the various 744 videos of reality flights that this shouldn't be the case. Fuel is fed into the engines when 'N1' reach '10' on start up or, so I thought? Please advise?

nVidia has a new set of drivers out and on initial review they seem very promising (Vista 32 WHQL). Coupled with Tabs nTune fix I think simming in Vista is going to be be a decided improvement.....Check it out and see if it seems to work for you and let us know.Best-Carl F. I may have missed it but I couldn't find an option to have the GPS fail in the 744 and I know there isn't an off switch. Is there a way to cause the GPS to fail and force me to fully rely on the IRS and DME Updating? If not, is this an option for the 747X or is that a secret?Ryan GamurotLucky to live Hawai'ihttp://www.virtualpilots.org/signatures/vpa296.png

Hi,I'm totally new to painting so please be patient with me.. Ok I'm trying to produce my own repaint of the 747-400PAX.. So I downloaded the kit, and I've drawn up my fuselages how I want them (remembering to reverse the right side).. All this is done.. and now I am trying to cut them to side to fit on the template.. The problem is.. the size of the fuselage on the template (where they are stacked FRONT, MIDDLE, REAR from top to bottom) is different to the sizes in the coloured template.. they don't match.. Each image is slightly taller.. or slightly longer.. Am I doing something wrong here?CheersCraig

Hi Lefteris,There was a thread earlier this month and the question was raised about the possibility of PMDG providing an interface somewhat similar to PM for the 737 without giving away the farm re the engineering. Didn't hear if there was a result/reply from PMDG. As you are probably aware we cannot duplicate 100% of the systems using various interfaces like Key2Mouse, FSUIPC, Keyboard Encoders etc. we can only get about 70% so it would be great if we could have a set of offsets to work with to enable 100% funbctionality with our hardware switches etc.Look forward to your response.Rob

Well, I just finished my first transatlantic crossing- and what a format to do it in! Never having flown "across the pond" I saw the announcement 2 weeks ago and I signed up for a 1350z slot time. Spent the past couple of weeks pouring over NATS info, playing with Dan Down's fuel calculator, trying to make heads and tails of FSBuild and picking my mate (Steve B's) brain as he's a long haul pro. Got up early this morning and the NATS tracks were up. I looked them over and decided on track C. FMS fed (manually no less) and fuel calculated 3 times (just to be sure) I was ready. Logged in and SquawkBox promptly kicked me off- arrrggggh! Kept at it and KEWR was a sea of…

Hello all,I have been enjoying the 737-6/7/8/900 for the last 5 months.Just last week I decided to update the FMC nav database,so I purchased some navigraph credits and updated to airac0707. I also updated sids/stars. Now I notice thatwhen I select a departure rwy on the route page orselect an approach procedure on the dep/arr page, the touchdown zone elevation along with the altitudereference line on the PFD altimeter scale is off by 50 or so feetat just about every airport Ive tried. I have made surethat the correct QNH is set. Also, the extended runway centerline is also off a few degrees. I assume this is becausethe fmc database has been updated but the fs9 databa…
