Hi team,I'm currently running an Nvidia GeForce FX5200 which gives me good frames in the 2D cockpit but stuttery frames in the VC. See my signature for other specs. Can anyone offer a suggestion for a good graphics card upgrade? I'm aware that video card isn't the main consideration in FS but my current card isn't exactly A-grade so I'd hope for SOME improvement.Besides, when I'm not flying, a game like Doom 3 or Battlefield Vietnam runs poorly on my current card.My budget is about $300 NZD or $135USD odd.Current contenders that I've looked at are:ATI Radeon 9600 XT NVidia GeForce 4 FX 5700 UltraWhat chipset (?) is best for FS? Radeon or GeForce?Any advice appreciated.

I try to follow the (After) TakeOff procedure described in the PMDG Manual 05 (Normal Procedures)As far as I understand things I have to hold V2 + 15(20) until flap retraction altitude. How do I calculate flap retraction altitude?I usually take off with flaps = 5. That means that I do have to retract the flaps 3 times (1: 5->2, 2: 2->1, 3: 1->0). In the PMDG Manual No 5 (Normal Procedures) on page 10 there is a table showing "Takeoff Flap Retraction Speed Schedule". Under T/O FLAPS = 5 (left column) there is only shown 2 steps of retraction. Should there not be 3, or do we go from 5 directly to 1, and from 1 to 0??As you can see, I'm a little confused about the r…

I am now creating my own flight plans but have a small problem. Is there a recommended height/distance/angle away from arrival to lock onto the vor -I seem to be too high and overfly the runway. Also my plan seems to put end of descent at the runway -is this correct??Bernie Lonnen

Well I picked this week to add onto the Labor Day Holiday, and take some vacation days. Needless to say, the weather in the Southeast has not been all the great the last few days, so traveling somewhere was ruled out. I decided, instead, to do my favorite thing lately, and that is stay home and fly the 737.. I just joined the Delta Virtual Airline and thought this might be a great time to rack up some flights. I get up in the morning, have breakfast and hit the skies. With Active Sky fired up, the weather effects are just great. I have been flying between Palm Beach and Atlanta and up to Raleigh, NC. Two to three hundred foot ceilings, turbulence, rain on the windshe…

Ok, I was made speechless last night, maybe I should have known but I didn't. Since I purchased the 737NG I have been running a GeForce TI4600 video card and I thought it was a pretty good card, a little old but good and then yesterday I received my new FX5900XT card and my God those panels look good! I did not even change any of my display settings from the way I had them with the old card, the difference is that great. I am planning to put a new PC together in a few months with a top of the line video card so I just bought the FX5900XT as a "cheap" way to improve things until my upgrade. I had no idea that these panels could look so good! The outside visuals are much im…

Can someone help me with this problem? Many thanks. Scott

Hi all!I have bought the 737NG 600/700 few days ago: it works perfectly and is a wonderful add-on for my FS9!!!I only have a question about the FMC graphics: in all manuals, reviews and articles about the 600/700 series, the FMC appears like this:Instead, I see this FMC:Everything works perfectly, but WHY my FMC has this layout? The version of my addon is the latest (V1.3 build 80).Thanks to all for tips and help, and see you soon!!!Claudio (from Italy)

Hi All,Since I'm new to NG's, I have one more very fundamental question:How do we file IFR plans and get IFR clearance since for a NG flight we make use of the FMC and program the route ourselves. Am I correct in assuming that for the PMDG NG's, we don't create flight plans as we do for other MSFS default aircraft by clicking on the 'create flight plan' option? So since we make use of the FMC and don't create the .pln routes, the MSFS recognizes departures as VFR.. so if I was to throw in weather....how would I get ATC clearance, also how would I ask to be vectored in for ILS....How do I get the 'Select Approach' option in ATC?The only logical thing I can think of is to cr…

No words needed in this post. I'm afraid!Just look at the pics i took during my daily NG training flight: LIML (Milan Linate) to ENGM (Oslo Gardermoen) while cruising at FL330 not far from EDDW (Bremen).Never seen before...Fortunately that Easter egg disappeared a few minutes later. What should i think/do???Thanks for helpingLuigi ;-)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/90511.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/90512.jpg

Yesterday, I was flying in the very windy conditions from ATL to a couple of airports in Florida. When I left ATL, ATC had the planes landing and Taking off on runways 26 and 27 and the wind was from the east at 20-25 knots. I tried to request another runway, but all the runways listed in the selection box were westbound. Hmmmm.., Oh well, I noticed all the other UT Traffic Landing and Taking off with the wind, so I figured " might as well give it a try" ( real life, no way). When I rotated my ground speed was over 170.... Anyone else had this happen?

In the counterpoint to an earlier post about desktop pilots being able to land a real 737, how many real pilots could land Flight Simulator? :)I have a pilot friend who is type-rated on the 737NG (although he has never used MSFS2004) and he flew my PMDG and CRASHED on landing several times. Nor could he seem to hold altitude and airspeed, trim the aircraft, ect. His excuse - "the real aircraft is easier to fly, it's much more stable and you have feedback on the controls".Not sure what this means, lol. So if one of us had an emergency, say we had to go answer the phone or doorbell while on a approach to landing - could a real pilot sit down at our desks and take o…

Hi,I'm new to PMDG 737NG's and still finding my way through the manuals. Have downloaded the latest STARs/SIDs and the latest AIRAC cycle. I have the following, very basic questions, please help:Before I can choose a flight to enter onto the FMC, how do I know what routes I can fly which correspond to the AIRAC database? Is there anything like that, I mean are we restricted to flying routes which are only in the AIRCAC (I would presume so).And secondly, since we have to manually enter the waypoints (TO/VIA) or the route as such, how do I know what the route is? I mean how do I know what to enter in the FMC if I was to fly say from Mumbai to New Delhi or London to Paris? So…
