The Win7 OS Forum

As simmers migrate to Win 7, we are sure there are going to be numerous questions regarding the use of FS and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it.

Hi,I need your help in understanding the poor FSX performance on one of my computers. I have 2 similar computers running the exact same OS (Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit) with 4 GB DDR2-800 RAM , same Softwares and both have FSX Acceleration (including exact same addons) on a dedicated SATA hard drive (WD 7200 RPM 320GB and WD 7200 RPM 160 GB). No tweek applied to FSX.CFGI built both systems myself, following the same steps and sequence when installing OS, drivers and softwares. All drives show 0% fragmentation on both system (I defrag regularly using Win7 built-in defragger). BIOS settings are identical. The only major difference between the 2 systems is the CPU and video car…

This thread is for people that had very good performance with FSX on Vista or XP and then had stuttering and deteriorated performance on Windows 7.When I got Windows 7 I installed FSX on my PC as I usually do (which was a horrible way), and installed it off the two discs, installed the service packs next without flying the default flight with each version then rebooting, and I didn't download the DirectX updates before I installed. I was so excited and I was impatient so I didn't want to "waste my time" performing all the extra steps. That was a VERY big mistake.I fired up FSX, configured my settings, closed it. Then started it up again, hit "Fly Now!" and what do I see, …

  5. I have noticed a significant decline in performance since upgrading from Windows Vista (32 bit) to Windows 7 (64 bit). I'm not entirely sure why this is happening, so any suggestions would be appreciated. So far, I have followed the usual suggestions- disabling display themes/unnecessary background programs, driver updates, etc. I have recently installed Windows 7 and all my add-ons. I've run the disk defrag provided by Windows (have not run O&O defrag yet, but even still, my system should be pretty optimal. However, with default aircraft, I can barely get above 8 FPS on the ground. With payware such as PMDG, around 4 FPS.Under Vista, this would normally be betw…

  6. I recently bought a well priced PC(2600 pounds worth), but win7 told me when I fired up the pc for the first time, that no audio device was installed.I uninstalled my card and then installed a win7 driver I found online. But still I cannot listen to some youtube videos, and the sound does not come out 100% correctly :( What to do?Yours trulyBoaz.

To all,Does Win 7, 64bit support the installation of multiple graphics cards / drivers of differing manufacturers on the same motherboard (ie Nvidia and ATI)? The intention is to use only one of them at a time > never simultaneously. Which one is used would be application / game dependent. If this is possible, how is the switch accomplished ("on the fly" in Win 7, in the BIOS during system startup, or ?) Thank you, Ken Boardman

  8. Hi GuysJust thought I would share my findings with you.... I recently installed Win 7 64 bit with both FS9/FSX and to be honest have had all sorts of issues. I have an ATI 5850 and am unable to run V Sync in FSX as are all ATI users (vista/win7) so have to live with wiggly pictures when panning with Track IR, I also have problems with FSX minimizing to desktop and then trying to return to the game.... there seems to be a lot of issues with in game graphics and the administrator stuff is rediculous when installing.....My 2 centsHamish

I went out yesterday and bought WIN 7 Professional to replace my Vista Premium 64. See my hardware specs below - none of which were changed from the Vista install. I did a complete install of WIN 7 and spent the better part of last night and today bringing FSX back to its former glory. Hardware consists of CH Products Flight Stick, Pedals and Throttle. I am also running about 3 Terabytes of external WD drives. WIN7 detected and took care of installation for all. I had to re-install NVIDEA and NHANCER, and of course FSX and all my add-ons from the ground up. My add-ons placed on the system today consist of the PMDG 744, MD11, the J4100, Flight1 Mustang, Kodiak and the LD76…

Well I have recently installed W7 64bit.I had put a little stuff called "UIAutomationCore.dll" into my main folder('Cause someone said it can prevent my FSX from fatal error...),but still get fatal error information.Mostly it occurs when I fly with LDS767 and click for a menue option.I had a short flight with PMDGMD11,no problem.I still have Maddog 2008 installed, but haven't tested yet. Also,no ground add-ons are installed.BTW my simulator is FSX SP2Here's my system:CPU Athlon 64b/dual core/5000+/2.6GHzGraphic Card:Geforce8600GT/512MMemory:4GBThanks very much

Hello virtual pilots,I just installed FSX and the two service packs on my computer. I had purchased FSX Deluxe in 2006 but it was too harsh for my computer back then. I decided to wait a few years until I could upgrade my computer. Now that I have FSX installed on a new machine, could someone tell me what joystick(s) actually work with FSX and Windows 7 64-bit?I still have my MS Sidewinder force feedback 2, but, alas, the X/Y axis don't work. Everything else on the joystick seem to work. Also, I've read some posts about the bufferpool settings. Which cfg file (and where is it) do I find this setting? I wonder why recommended tweaks for FSX are not pinned to the FSX F…

Let me begin with saying this is not another miracle-tip topic. I just want to share something and maybe it may help someone. But most of all I am posting this because I am curious what's happening. On my Vista-system I always used a Bufferpools setting of 490000000 for my GTX285, running with DX9. Anything lower and I would get stutters. After not playing FSX for a few months, I installed FSX on my system that had Windows 7 on it by that time. I tried to use the same tweaks (just bufferpools, really) but it was horrible. So I gave DX10 a try and it's was great: very smooth and all. Of course there were some disadvantages (no vsync, ingame FSAA, no ENB bloom, no progressiv…

I am having problems with different add on sceneries. It is both with freeware and also commercial sceneries.I install a scenery, usually installs in the add on scenery folder or aerosoft folders whithin FS9.I opened the scenery library, add area... and it adds fine, I can see the top entry being the scenery I just added. I got out of the scenery library menu out of FS9 , thhen back in to FS9 and test the scenery. Everything is ok. Then I go out of FS9 again, back into and the scenery I added before is no longer in the scenery library and it opens the default FS9 airport.I have tried numerous time with the same results.Does anybody has any idea what is wrong?ThanksJGD

Under Win 7 64x which of the two sims FS9 ans FSX is most stable and less prone to crash to desktop? Assume using a lot of addon products in both sims.

I installed Win7 a couple of weeks ago and had no problems getting NHancer to run in FS9 - using the recommended settings, I had good AA etc in both windowed and full screen modes. However, 2 days ago, when I changed to full screen, I had a completely distorted picture - it appeared that the picture was too big for the screen {C172 2D panel I could only see the coaming and above} and the picture seemed at extremely low resolution. The same applies in spot and VC etc. I tried several different NVidia drivers, re-installing NHancer and FS9 and even re-installing Win7. The problem remained - good AA etc in window mode - v distorted picture in full screen. Also, using the NVi…

Hi all.I'm getting the Out of Memory message and lock up after about 3 hours of a 3'20 flight from KORD to Yellowknife in the PMDGMD11C. I've tried removing addons one by one (xclassUS, GEPro and REX2.0) and tried adjusting the USERVA figure, although I'm not sure that's relevant in 64bit. I also clocked back to normal settings on my i5 750 but nothing works. I've turned all my settings down such as autogen, clouds and traffic but to no avail!!.... Anyone care to speculate why it's happening in 64bit and what else I might try? Please!!! I've installed using NickN's guide to the letter apart from the trashy radeon.... It's buttery smooth and framerate is fine... JimSystem …

Since I will need to do a clean install of Win 7 is any data from my XP Pro backups able to be reinstalled for FSX? I have dozens of add-ons and really am hoping I don't have to re-install one at a time.I'm really not unhappy with XP-Pro and my FSX install. Actually it works quite well. I'd like Win 7 for other applications. Also do you recommend the 64bit install? Are the drivers up to snuff? Would I have better add-on compatibility with a 32bit install? I have a 2.8g Dual Quad Core Xeon machine with 8g of ram and a 512 Nvidia 8800GT. Yes it's a Mac Pro, but it runs XP Pro VERY NICELY.Stay with XP Pro or Win 7?Thank you for your time in advance.Mark. : )

  23. Hi,I've posted this in the Digital Aviation forum but I did not receive any rely so far. Hope to have better chance here.I recently moved from XP PRO 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit (fresh install of Win 7) and re-installed FSX, Acceleration and the Piper Cheyenne V4.00. I am administrator, FSX is ran as administrator and the Cheyenne installer was ran as administrator. My problem: Everytime I try to select the Piper Cheyenne V4.00 in FSX (any model), under Windows 7 64-bit, I get an APPCRASH in FSX caused by "DA.PA31Avionics.DLL". I cannot understand why. Could anyone give me a clue ?FSX runs fine otherwise in Win 7 and I never had any problem with the Cheyenne under Windows X…

I would be grateful if someone can shed any light on the following issue.I upgraded from Vista 64 HP to Win7 64 HP (having carefully backed up the Vista Partition).I downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers 195.62 for VISTA/WIn 7 64 (195.62_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whql.exe) and decided to install them on Win 7. The drivers unpacked succesfully and appeared to install OK. However, on checking device manager I noticed that the Nvidia drivers had not installed. I then tried executing the Setup.exe from the unpacked driver folder. The setup ran OK but didn't install the drivers.Back in device manager I disabled the video card (GTX285) and re-enabled it and then receiv…

My research shows this was a problem with FS and it has to do with Direct X.
