It seems a lot of simmers tend to work in the IT industry or PCs so maybe you can shed some light on this for me. Temporary housing situation for the next 6 weeks until my new place is ready. So I am using this apartment's free wireless internet access via my laptop. All is good. Now I want to connect an older "wired" Linksys router to my laptop and have my printer connect to my laptop via the router. Pretty straightforward. (That way I can add a 2nd PC to use the printer down the road).Issue is, the moment I connect the router to my laptop I immediately loose my internet connection from the laptop wireless access. Pull the CAT5 cable out and wham... internet is back…

So the geeks who did my current box are convinced I need a new C: 1TB hard drive. Getting a bad drive message prior to the POST. Fine. It's going to be a long ride with reinstalling all the other programs I use, but FSX AP is what I wish to address here.I believe I know about all the places I have FSX files in Win-7 64 bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator XC:\Users\{{Me}}\Documents\Flight Simulator X FilesC:\Users\{{Me}}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSXAside from Registry entries that will be made automatically during reinstallation of FSX in Win-7 64 Bit, do any of you wonderful, knowledgeable sim dudes out there have an additional tip t…

I am running MS FS 2004 with 4 touchscreen monitors of which 2 are the new HP L2105tm monitors (with native Win 7 drivers) and the other 2 are AOC touchscreens (wth AMS Touchkit drivers) based on the older 5-wire resistive technology. In order to enable right-click via single-touch on the touch-screens, I use a floating toolbar swap-mouse-button utility (it interchanges left- and right-clicks when you enable it). This utility works perfectly under Win 7, in that the AOC touchscreens respond to single-touch with a right-click when the mouse buttons are so swapped with the utility. The HP L2105tm touchscreens however, will not. Under single-touch they will ONLY respond with…

I read in PC Magazine that unless you need the more business oriented features of W7 64 Pro or Ultimate, you are better off with W7 64 Home Premium for personal use and gaming. In other words if you don't use the business apps you are wasting your money if you buy Pro or Ultimate. Does Pro or Ultimate provide any increased benefit for running FSX (or video processing) over Home Premium? My new FSX pc will be offline and not used for anything but FSX and video making. No office apps installed. Comments appreciated! Thanks.Bruce

Howdi all.I've started using FS under win7 and it's seems to run fine besides one major problem - When I switch the windows to another one in windows during FS is on, I can't switch back to FS. It's quite annoying when it happens and I can't return to my flight. Any ideas ?I've already unistalled and installed CCC, I've checked 'disable visual themes' and 'disable window composition' - But still, No disco :(I'm really desperate, Sometimes it happens due random window jumping on the screen and I can't do anything about it.Thank you in advance.Lauren.

When I previously installed FSX into Windows XP (32), I found issue with the Sim-Connect function that someone kindly pointed me to a solution (at the time) here:http://forum.ivao.aero/index.php?topic=95115.0Now that I am about to install FSX into Win 7 (64), I

I have installed FSX (without any SP's so far) into Win 7, so far I have also installed FSUIPC (install worked OK that that leads me to believe that SimConnect installed OK?) Plugged the USB in for my GoFlight module (GF 166A VRP), then went to their website and downloaded the latest drivers (.20) and installed them- the setup menu came up fine. Ran FSX, was prompted to allow the GF module to run, but no communication between the GF module and FSX.From what I have read there are some possible solutions:1.http://www.goflightinc.com/ShowThread.aspx?ID=2This thread indicates that the GF module may not even work with Win7 (64), or that the binding between GF and FSX is not fu…

I can't recall when I have been so frustrated with a PC :) . Today I purchased the upgrade version of Win 7 (I had XP 32 before). Since I had previously installed a RIAD 0 array, the Win 7 install failed due apparently to the fact that it doesn't like installing to such a drive. (MS recommend removing all drives that have been formatted as RAID). I messed around with this for a while, then decided to finally just go and buy a new drive for the OS (500 GB), and removed all the old drives. Now setup ran OK, until I got to the product key entry, where this was rejected. I tried many times thinking that I was keying in a wrong code, then finally went on line at MS and f…

When I fly in FSX, it is common that I get a black screen in the middle of the flight. When the screen blacks out, I still hear the sound of my aircraft. I started getting this problem about a week or so ago, and I noticed the black screen is occuring more and mor

I went to the Gigabyte site and downloaded the 64 bit drivers for the chipset, NIC, USB 2.0 controller and the onboard sound chip, prior to quitting XP 32 (they are saved on an external USB HD). Now I have installed Win 7 and note (unlike any MS OS before) that directly after installing the OS that there are no uninstalled devices in Device Manager (I assume that we still get the yellow question mark?). I do intend to install a new nVidia display driver that I have downloaded, but is there any point to performance that would be gained by uninstalling / installing the mobo hardware drivers? My mobo is several years old so I have no doubt that MS would have access to val…

I am migrating from a 32 bits Windows 7 to a 64 bits Windows 7 system. FSX Deluxe edition ran fine on my old system. However when trying to install on my new system, the installation just stops at "Installing MSXML 4.0 parser and SDK" (repeatedly after starting again). The only option is to turn off the power switch. I know there is a MSXML v4 issue with FSX, but I don't have any version of v4 on my system (I do have v3 and v6, but I see that the versions 3, 4 and 6 can exist alongside one another).

After many hours of tinkering with Windows 7's....idiosyncrasies...I finally got it to recognize my Devil Dog (MAAM's 'Briefing Time' with my beloved Devil Dog repaint). Here goes:INSTALLATION:Install from CD (if you have a downloaded .zip file, extract it first and then run the FS9.exe as normal)Install to (default, or whatever you choose) C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Fight Simulator X *Note-don't make the painfully obvious mistake that I made 10,000 times...don't just change the path from "../Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator 9" to "../Flight Simulator X"...MAKE SURE you change it to "../Microsoft Flight Simulator X"Then, carefully install the FSX updates…

While this post does not deal with FS issues, it does address a "permissions" issue I ran across while setting up my wife's new Win 7 machine. Hopefully this will be of interest to anyone using Win 7.To make a long story somewhat shorter, I was attempting to edit (rename and then replace) a default sound (wav) file and discovered that although I had UAC off and was runing as Admnstrator, I could not make the edit as I did not "own" the files in question. They were "owned" by "TrustedInstaller".After some Google searches I discovered the following which explains in detail (with illustrations) how to change the ownership so I could proceed. It works!http://helpdeskgeek.co…

I know this is a noob question. I've tried to look on youtube but the videos aren't helping. I go to a site, get the plane's ZIP file. Un zip. put the file in Simobjects>Airplanes folder....then I go on FSX and its not there....any help?

Hi Everybody! Around two weeks ago, i got a new computer. I have now installed windows 7 (32 bit) as well as FSX. I was hoping to be able to get a more realistic fs experience. However, i quickly encountered problems with it, as i get an 'out of virtual memory' message that forces me to close fsx. The problem is with all situations that i put pressure on the computer (especially the pmdg md-11, but in many situations). Virtual memory is set at 4675 mb. This problem makes me angry because with a new computer, i was sure that you could do this. FSX starts okay, but very quickly slows down until it crashes. Running fsx, memory use it very high, but CPU is relativly …

I am not getting any responses back from airnav systems. none of the traffic that is downloaded shows up in the game. only the FSX AI traffic is flying or parked at the airports.I hate paying for some thing and getting no support from the people who created it.any tweaks that you know of. I even checked to make sure I had the right version.any help will do before I cash it in

Hello,I am in the process of reloading my flightsim computer, and need some input. Historically, I have always disabled the UAC system on my Vista and Win7 installations. No muss, no fuss, no problems. Between my hardware firewall, AV software, and my own knowledge of what to do and what not to do, I've been security problem free for years. Now, I need to plan on another person using this computer at any time (*my fiancee). The idea of UAC is now important to me, as I will no longer have the luxury of being the only person to use the computer with absolute control over what is being done on it. To start the conversation, it should be known that I *always* install flightsi…

I've been looking around on the web for info on installing Win 7, as well as the excellent info here in this forum.I found this from MS:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows...xp-to-windows-7and just wondered if anyone who has done the Xp32 to Win7 64 upgrade can confirm that the procedure is accurate (and there's not a better way to do it). I'm a bit disappointed that I will lose my XP32 OS.Thanks, Bruce.

On loading FSX in Windows 7, I keep getting a scenery.cfg error flashing up, stating that it '...cannot find fileXXX in scenery area.139' etc.I deleted the file in question manually using Windows Explorer (when I finally figured out the Permissions issues......) and the only scenery.cfg I can find on the system is in the Flight Simulator directory. On that scenery.cfg file, the areas only go up to area.115....!Is there another scenery.cfg file 'hidden' somewhere that I can edit manually to get rid of the error messages? Thanks for any help....Toni.

Thought I would throw this one out there and see if you have come across this. Whenever I change my background, like to a solid black color, it always reverts back to some default photo. Same with a background theme. I change to one of the standard Windows 7 themes supplied and it too goes back to some default after rebooting. As far as I know I am the admin of this machine unless there is something I do not know about. Come across this?thx,Clutch
