  2. One thing I noticed is that pretty much all of the visual improvements in XP12 have been accompanied by (and possibly made as a function of) a related improvement in operational realism. Let me explain. .) The vastly improved water visuals have been complemented by new water and seaplane physics, which (barring further improvements of this early iteration) is seemingly used as a RL training tool for aerial firefighters; .) The new physical based photometric engine has also been designed to be FAA /Level-D compliant in terms of modeling the atmospheric and runway lights visibility; .) The new dynamic environmental effects (e.g. the puddles and snow on the ru…

Like all of us I have been tuning the graphics settings for the best performance/graphics compromise. This will be different for all of us, but two settings, shown by Q8Pilot were the keys to my set up. Firstly he advises the texture setting be lowered to 'high' if your graphics card has less than 12Gb Ram. My card has 11Gb so initially resisted lowering the texture setting, but doing so gained me many fps and made flying completely smooth. I was worried this setting would degrade all the ortho I downloaded, but it doesn't appear so. Secondly, the antialiasing setting between two and four. I did try a setting of 2 just after release, but the shimmering was too b…

So the clouds need some work, no argument from me, BUT.... I started a flight near Geneva in blue skies and sunshine. I flew east towards the mountains. I checked metars that showed low clouds and rain in the mountains, gradually clearing to the east. I'm in a simulator, so lets go into the weather! The first video shows me after passing through the rain. The cloud base was lifting so I had started a climb. The clouds were spot on as was the lighting. the second video was further to the east. You can see lower cloud behind the aircraft, but ahead the cloud base was rising to a high overcast. Further ahead there is an even higher overcast to a clear sky! The s…

Anyone seen a new button box or similar,2022, that has at least some rotaries that work good ( and tried them on altitude and heading assignments) and show up in X plane as a controller .....?I tried a little one I got on Etsy and it didn't work well at all in X.It could do key commands but it was terrible in X,stuttering and crashing all the time.Several sim companies have made button boxes etc but not many have rotaries that can smoothly adjust things like heading and altitude etc....Why is something so useful hard to find?

Hi. I cannot find any setting to see moving AI aircraft on the ground nor in the air. I also cannot see any messages nor hear from other aircraft in the ATC dialogue. Am I missing a trick somewhere? 😀 Mal

  9. Just wondering in XPlane 12 is turn slip properly simulated. One certain aircraft this is not an issue but in a Cessna you have to step on the ball for a coordinated turn. MSFS is seriously lacking in this area.

I noticed in the simHeaven_X-World_Europe-7-forests folder there is a text file - 2 versions remarks.txt. It describes the two sources of OSM data available. I renamed 'Earth nav data' to 'Earth nav data - osm'. I renamed 'Earth nav data - osm+autogen' to 'Earth nav data' so it becomes the active folder in use. In XP-12 I now have hedgerows displayed around fields, as well as the trees! The 2 versions remarks.txt file also has the following entry - 'If you use orthos, additional forests are coming from the ortho overlays.' I haven't extracted overlay when using ortho4XP because I assumed SimHeaven had its own overlay, but if addition forest are available…

The X-Plane.to mods and download sites spun off from the hugely successful MSFS flightsim.to is now up and running It's appear to be using exactly the same layout and features as the original (flightsim.to accounts are also valid on XP so no need to create a new account if you have an fs one) so it'll be interesting to see if the XP community wants to start using it instead of traditional download locations like .org Certainly the searching functionality and visibility of new and updated contents seems much better than the older site so if the developer tools side is also better (no 200mb limit etc) that might be enough to get people to move ?

There's a great night lighting fix for the silly "star-like" filters on the light orbs in the stock sim. https://x-plane.to/file/38/x-plane-12-light-sprite-tweak And a few pics of mine to show what it looks like now. nightslights by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr lights3 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr

I have the FPS data output window open, but can a seasoned XP user explain what I'm seeing here and how it affects what settings I should use. I can see higher figures in some of the fields are showing strain on the system, but what should I be aiming for?
