  3. I've been playing round with the vector Ordnance Survey data for the UK to see if it can be used for X-Plane scenery generation. Initially, I've had some quite good but basic results, if you see the screenshots below (Click to Enlarge): At the moment, the application I've written simply takes the OS vector data, and pulls out trees and buildings. It then generates a fake OSM file which can then be used with OSM2XP (I intend to bypass this stage and just produce a straight scenery package). Firstly the good points: The entire UK, and every nook and cranny is covered. Anyone who has ever used ordnance survey maps will know how good they are. Just a 1x1 de…

I have the excellent Ramzess (sp?) 777 for XPX/64. I am reading a review and see a pic of a wing view in it, although there bis no mention in the review how it was done, and I have looked both here and in the docs for the product and cannot find any reference to this. Is it possible to get a wing view in the 777, and if so, how do I do it? Thanks, Bruce.

This is a plee for anyone using OSM scenery inside X-Plane. Please spend some time updating your local area (if it hasn't been mapped), by adding some forests and buildings. It's really easy to do, and it not only will it look good inside X-Plane in future scenery packs, but will also help expand the maps for OSM. Additionally, it will also probably appear in products for FSX as well. I normally spend about 30 mins a day updating my local area, and I've tried converting it into X-Plane and the effect it gives is very much worth it. It's an easy way to author scenery and share it with others :-)

Seeing an XP10 Dev at an FSX Live Stream felt alittle weird for me. I would have picked an anonymous login name. Why is he interested in the PMDG 777 when he has his own very expensive product on the market. Does he fly his payware or is he more interested in the FSX 777? http://store01.prostores.com/servlet/x-planestore/Detail?no=452

As you've probably noticed it's a bit quiet here in the X-plane section of Avsim today. This is mainly because jcomm is having one of his FSX/P3D periods. This is completely normal and happens from time to time. So don't panic people and carry on as normal. Soon enough he'll be back with his contagious enthusiasm

If you like mountain flying then this may be for you. 5/6 of Japan is mountainous (which may not be surprising considering how many earthquakes we get). Unfortunately Fuji still looks like crap and although the OSM data is suprisingly good (well, not simply non-existent like I thought it would be for Japan), the rolling green plains of Tokyo may confuse some... The smaller files may download as a simple .dsf, not a folder in which case you need to make the folder with the coordinates as the title. As usual all put inside a folder titled something like 'Japan HD Mesh' in the custom scenery folder of XP. http://moriarty.watson.jp/dsf.html

Recently, xplane 10.22 (It was doing it on the previous version as well) has started making weird sounds. When I am at the splash/setup screen, it makes a high pitched whine and when it gets into the actual aircraft, with no engines or avionics started, there is a strange chattering noise. I have the volume levels adjusted pretty low, around 30%, both within xp and on the settings from within the realtek control panel. I don't experience this with any other games or applications. I have tried relocating the speakers, wiring, turned off everything else, reset default sound profiles in realtek and it's still there and only in xplane. It also can be heard through headphones…

Does any X-Plane guru out there know how to make the roads transparent in X-Plane. This is for compatibility with photo-scenery. I have seen it done before, e.g. in the Hawaii scenery, and it looked excellent, but would like to do this myself for the excellent scenery available from simheaven.com The only thing ruining the photoscenery for me at the moment is the road textures. I still want to keep the cars and road signs.

Guys, as far as I'm concerned, there is nothing now that can keep me away from starting XP10 and pick a good GA for a morning flight :-) There was that problem, until yesterday, and I confess that most of the time, although the rest of the feel was good, the looks were great too, and some models are really a charm to see and operate in XP10, kept me away from it. After aplying that "TorqueFix" to all of my prop models ( non counter rotating) and observing the thrust and power figures with and without the fix applied, after making all sorts of tests that came to my mind, the truth is - just as much as some say FTX Global turned FSX / P3D into a new sim (and I …
