System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etc

I just ordered a new mobo, processor and psu. Can I install this, or leave it to a professional? My experience is limited to installing RAM and an internal CD drive. Have no clue about BIOS or anything like that. Thanks for the help.Todd

Hello, I got a new Comp today and i just wanna know if anyone knows the best way for me to copy files to the new computer for the old one. I dont have a CD burner on the old system. The old system is a PII 400, w/382mb RAM, the new system is a P4 2.4ghz. The main thing is i wanna copy some of the FS2K2 folders to my new system. Please any help would be great. Thanks Ahmad...

I am new to the FF joystick and simply love the effects. As a real world pilot this is one of the things missing from the SIm experience.Is there anyway to enable the MS FF 2 (Brand New Model) to respond to turbulence while in the clouds or in clear air turbulence?

Just got P4 2.4ghz, 256mb ram, 32mb video card. I added 256mb of ram so i now have 512. I installed FS2K2 and it worked great, then i copyed some of aircraft/sounds/gauges from FS2k2 on my old system over and ever since then its been acting up. The screen flickers and after about a min. or 2 of flyin it will lock up, sometimes give me the error message and shut FS down. Does anyone have any ideas what my be causeing this????????????????????

What are the longest white slots for? For the new system I plan to get sometime in the future, I have 4 PCI cards I'll need to use but this seems to only have 3... what are the other 2 white slots for?

Hi, I wanted to know if I increase my system memory, will that reduce a chance of the computer locking up? My computer runs fine with the Geforce, but after an hour or so it sometimes locks up. Please help! Asad.

I currently have a Compaq Presario desktop: AMD 1 gig Athalon, 256mb ram, and a GeForce 2 Pro 64mb vid card. Since it only has a 1 gig processor I want to up the performance to it's realistic limits by increasing the ram to 512 mb, and putting a little better vid card in it. It runs most games fine with most of them at max detail, but I'm looking for that last little oomph short of getting a new system. My question is should I put in the fastest GF3, or go with the low end (not MX version) of the GF4?What do you think?Tim13

Hey everyone.I really need a new keyboard for my computer. This one I got free from the place I got my comp from, is falling apart LOL. Just a few minutes ago.........my space bar broke off (im serious LOLOL) and its rather hard to type stuff with a tiny little button for space. I dont even know WHO made this keyboard...it just says "Generic" on the back LOL. I guess thats what I get for using a no name keyboard LOLI have 4 very good AT style keyboards in my basement somewhere, all in good condition, but this comp takes the PS/2 port, not AT. I can usually type a LOT faster on a older "clickety-clack" keyboard than a newer one. Too bad I cant use my ancient IBM 3270PC key…

Can anyone tell me if you can buy an adapter for changing out my original analog yoke & pedals for the USB version. Is there a kit or a trade-in program from CH products that will allow such a change or do I have to buy a USB yoke & pedals from scratch...all over again.Regards,

I notice that Dell recommend flat screens as giving a clearer picture.However my computer guru believes that a normal, quality screen is more suitable for Flight Simulation. I should mention that "money no object" is not correct in my case. Has anyone experienced the difference?

Can someone tell me how to reformat a hard drive? I'm planning an upgrade, and a thread on the MSFS forum suggests this. I have Windows XP Home which was an upgrade from Win98, that from Win95, in other words there's a lot of old stuff in there which needs to be flushed anyway. I want to start fresh..JamesJ

This was working....I noticed my rear speakers were not working, don't know what happened. I d/l the sblive software from creative. No problem, done it a hundred times. All is well with sound and speakers now. But when I went to fly on vatsim, I noticed that now everything I say into the mic is coming over the speakers. I never was like that. RW still works when I key it up. It's very annoying to hear myself breath. I tried to mute the mike as suggested at the RW web site, but when I do that the mic no longer works. I wish I could remember how it was set up, but I can't. Any suggestions?

This may be one of those impossible situations :)I'm running some FS add-ons on another PC on a LAN, using WideFS. Is it possible to start/stop these addon applications from another PC which is running FS (and not the one that they are installed on)? Although the other PC has it's own monitor, it's hard to get access to it ("better half" uses it :) ).ThanksBruce.

Hi,I purchased a new system. Just wondering if this would be enough to run FS.Intel Pentium 4 1.8 GHz w/ FIC V113 Sis 645DX Motherboard512MB 333MHz DDR PC2700 Memory120 GB Hard Drive350W Power supply.And all of the other basic stuff...lol Not sure on the graphics card. Since I installed the new Detonator 41.09 I have many problems with the FS2002 undocked windows, specially with the FSNavigator software if I move the Program to my second monitor. The render of the World data is extremely slooowww in any case. Never had a problem before. Now I get a message shortly after starting the defrag which says 'Can't defrag 'cos of errors on HD. To repair, run a 'Full' Scandisc'.Fair enough. So I start the scandisc. After a few mins it tells me 'Scandisc has restarted 10 times 'cos Windows/other program is writing on the HD being checked. Turn off the programs' or something like that. Mmmm. This is where I get stuck…
