Strictly speaking, I know the answer is 8X, but that's not really my question. I recently purchased a GF4 Ti4200 with AGP 8X. So my question is, which might be expected to be the better performer - the GF4 Ti4600 (AGP 4X) in my server, or the 8X Ti4200 in the client computer. I know the simplest thing to do is make the swap and find out, but I was hoping that someone here might be able to enlighten me.Also, I'm somewhat ignorant and assuming that 8X is primarily a hardware function requiring no new programming. Not to be confused with DirectX9, which clearly will require new coding to be fully utilized. Is this correct, or does the 8X standard require new coding as well?

After extensive research, several "red-eye" evenings, I am completely confuddled and now looking for assistance with my first ever Pc build. Processors are easy enough, ATHLON has many recomendations and the more you pay the better it gets, pretty simple. But when it comes to the M/B I have the choice of few boards here. ASUS A7V-8XL seems to be a good choice (I think it even has a soundcard fitted (?)) but there are also the GIGABYTE 7DX-R DDR+RA and the DFI AD77 INFINITY RAI. Ive tried to look through Tomshardware but I wouldn't know what to compare, even if I could find the boards, LOL. I use my PC for FS2002 almost exclusively but which would be the best performer a…

Hello all, Well, I am running a 9000 Pro with the new Cataylist 3.1 drivers. I am using AA in Quality forced mode at 2x. Everything is all hunky dorry except when I am in forward view mode, my panel has a 'tearing' effect to it. The gauges seem to blur to the left until they are updated, which is when the process starts over again. This doesn't happen if I go to external view and hit 'shift-1' to bring up the panel, which leaves it slightly inconvieniant as I cant play using the cockpit view with the panel. I can post a picture if necessary, otherwise, any info or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!BashPart time drummer (www.brimfulsucks.com Support me y…

I have a problem with my GF4 Ti4200 card.If I select antialiasing below 4x, I have some display problems in FS. Above 4x, everything is fine. It doesn't matter if I select in FS or in the driver properties, the results are the same. However, the problems are different according to the drivers used.Using 31.00 drivers or below:Menu bar doesn't appear in fullscreen mode. Screen frezzes each time the mouse goes over a gauge. Screen remains frozen while the menu bar or the tooltips were supposed to be visible.Using 40.41 or above:Menu bar appears in fullscreen mode, but with a currupted appearance. Blackboxes behind and over the text. This causes errors in gauge display someti…

Hi, I have a motherboard with a 4X AGP port. The video card, MSI Starforce Geforce 2 GTS 32MB is also 4X. However, when I go to the driver section by right clicking on the desktop-clicking settings-then clicking advanced-then clicking "Geforce 2 GTS" tab-under "adapter information"-bus-AGP 2X. In other words it says it's 2X sometimes and sometimes it says 4X. What's happening and what should I do? Thanks. Asad.

Hello All, Lately I have bought various add-ons and also read many reviews and posts about fs add-ons, and it seemed that my system was out dated. I had a P3 1.1GHz, 512Mb Ram and Creative GeForce 2 GTS, with a Maxtor 160Gb HD. With this sytem I used to reach 25fps on stock planes, with settings between low to medium. When I loaded in some add-ons (I don't like to mention particular companies, as I don't want to shatter some doubts on them, since it was my system in question) the fps dropped below 10 and usually sticked at 6 fps. So, after long thoughts I bought the best system on the market that was possible to reach financially. I bought the Pentium 4 3.06GHz (hyper-…

Anandtech's Barton review is up, for anyone who's interested. Read it here:http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1783&p=1Where the review gets into the actual tests, at the bottom of each page of charts is a CPU scaling graph that is the best visual representation I've seen comparing the various CPU's. The test beds use state of the art chipsets and video cards, so it is a good comparison.-Basil

Well, I've been thinking about getting some new internals for my computer, and made a preliminary list of stuff I might get...* CPU: Athlon K7 XP 2400+ Thoroughbred* MoBo: ASUS A7V333 RAID VIA ARU2F KT 333* memory: 512 MB PC333 DDRAM* CPU cooler: Cooler Master HHC-L61 Silent Heat PipeI might also need to get a stronger power supply, I guess - but could I take any power supply, as far as external dimensions are concerned?Note that cost is a factor for me, which is why I would not want to spend more than about

Sorry for the expressive subject title, but since last night something causes my DSL connection to "fall asleep" in irregular intervals. I don't know of a better term, but in my view this is what happens. I once had this problem for a few days shortly after we got DSL installed last November, but it went away and never reappeared. The way I see the problem, it goes something like this. Sometimes, right in the middle of browsing, the server on the other side appears to simply stop responding to the requests sent out by my 'puter. However, since this problem affects ALL sites I tried to access when it happened, I have the impression that the problem might be with my ISP. Al…

Hello fellow forum members,I just completed my problematic upgrade (temperature related woes) and it works pretty good now.I have several questions looking for your expertize, though.1. Based on my system specs (below) my BIOS system shows FSB to be at 166Mhz (My processor FSB is 333Mhz). Is this normal? (this is the highest setting it would go...2. My memory is 400Mhz rated (PC3200), but upon boot-up it only shows 200Mhz (sthg like: 'memory frequency 200Mhz').It would go to max 333Mhz setting but then I get 'system overspeed' warning.Important info is that apparently I am running the latest BIOS available specific to Higher speed processors.3. I still get a lot of nasty …

Hey gang,My company is buying me a new laptop, and of course what's important to me is how well it will perform for flight sim ;-) The specs on the current laptops blow away my current desktop, except in the important area of graphics card. Anyone have good 3D FS2002 performance from a laptop? I'm limited to Toshiba but interested in hearing about any brand.

Hey guys, I got a AMD 1800+ processor on a Asus A7n266-e MB. My CPU fan took a dump and so I replaced it. No damage done to the CPU since I was sitting at the computer when the fan almost died and the Asus probe promptly let me know about the fan RPM. So, I install a new fan and now my Temps are steady 44C/111F when the computer is just sitting. I went to the AMD site and it says that meltdown temp for this processor is 90C. I was running before the fan dump at a avergage I would say of 40C/104F. Should I worry?? Anything I should do??? Thanks Vollmey

I grit my teeth, crossed my fingers and proceeded to flash my BIOS today. It all rebooted OK, what a relief. My sound is imbedded onto my motherboard, which has always worked OK (although I have heard that sound cards are better?). Anyway, on reboot the system found a multi-media controller to install (was already installed before- I'm not sure if the process of flashing and then resetting BIOS changed the IRQ, and that looks like another device to XP?).I've installed the driver, but as a part of that had to add permissions to the registry (I had to do this on original install too for the sound card, took me a week to find that little gem- if anyone wants to know more I'l…

After several months of tuning my new ASUS A7V333 motherboard and V8420 deluxe video card, so that my flightsims work okay, I tried to move on to do some video capture/display with this combo.Has anybody with this mobo/video combo successfully done any video capture and/or TV-out? And if so, I will be very interested in what I may have to do to accomplish same...================================================================I am totally unable to read any external video at all, nor display any video out to TV... The "nVidia WDM Video Capture (Universal)" device always shows up with the yellow exclamation point and the "Device cannot start" error message.I am running t…

With the standard (not upgrade) version of XP Home, are multiple instances of the OS allowed (using a multi-boot config, so the OS may be on C: and D:, etc.)? I'm assuming that for the upgrade version, once the original Win98 OS is upgraded to XP and therefore is no longer visible, that no further installs of XP are allowed.Thanks,Bruce.
