A question from a friend who I am helping with some system slowdowns in FS9 (lloks like he has already posted here too):New install of XP Home (basic "out of the box" install).Video drivers are most likely those that are natively found for XP. Video card is an ATI 9800 Pro 128MB512 MB RAM (not sure what speed or type)Athlon 2.4 GB CPUNew re-install of FS9This same system ran FS9 well before the need for a restore.FS9 performance, default planes, no add-ons active, is barely 5 fps at the default KSEA situation. My first idea is to un-install the video driver, run driver-clean, and re-install a later set of Omega drivers. But, could a bad video driver install cause issues…

Where is the X800 XT Platinum Edition video card available? I have called CDW, ComUSA, ATI, Visiontek, Asus, Gigabyte distributors and resellers for weeks now with no luck. I really want one. I see prices fron $450-695 stated but nobody has any stock. What's the real story. I hear that ATI has had problems getting the 256M video RAM chips. I am hoping someone can lend light on might very frustrating issue.I have my desktop setting (hue, sat, bright, color, contrast, etc, set just the way I like. (ATI Radeon 9600 with latest drivers on Win 2000 Pro)However, when I go into FS2K4 all of a sudden the screen goes light as if someone turned the brightness up and the contrast way down.Anyone else have this or explain this?Darryl

I have just installed a new video card(GeForce FX 5200 AGP 128 mb DDR with driver 5304)(I know, could have done better, but all I can afford at the time). What are the latest or best Drivers to use with the NVidia5900FX Ultra? I have a 3.2ghz machine with this card, and 1 gig of RAM. I should be getting better than 20fps. Anybody got any idea of what drivers I would need to help imrpove this? I believe time will show that the Catalyst 4.7's are a very good driver set. Most folks who have tried them are quite pleased. DNA has released his version of tweaked 4.7's, and there are a number of outstanding shots in the Screenshot forum to prove how nice they are. Certainly, the Omegaised 4.7's will be ready in a few days and they're sure to be as good as we've come to expect them to be. I am very new at this and need a little help. I select weather and on next screen click user defined & customize weather. Next screen I click on all weather stations and then advanced weather. Next screen I select a stratus and set base at 3,000 and tops at 5,000. Lastly click ok/ok/ok then "fly now". I then find myself in the selected aircraft, on the active runway, and ready to go. Problem is, blue sky above. What happened to my stratus layer? What am I doing wrong. Can someone help?

I heard the new ATI Radeon X800 boards are shipping. Do any of you have it yet? From what I've read, this just might be the answer to absolutely great frame rates and much more fluidity in FS. I'm really anxious to hear a review of this board with our favorite simulation hobby. It's selling for $399.00 at Best Buy, and Gateway announced it's shipping on their PCs. Ok guys, I am about ready to go nuts with this little problem...I am having trouble with DNS and XP. It seems that, for whatever reason, XP will not try and get any information from the DNS server after a period of mere minutes after startup. I do a 'repair' on my net connection, and the repair fails with an error 'DNS Cache Purge Error' or some nonsense like that.I have tried 'ipconfig /flushdns' and that works, sometimes, and gives me more minutes of surfing. But once again my connection turns sour on me. Even disabling and re-enabling my connection does little good.I have googled this problem, but even the mighty google isn't getting me results. Well I've finally got the dreaded " Flight Simulator 9.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close". Of course I am never told what the error is. Anyone have ideas? Was working fine until I loaded the new DC3 from MAAM. Maybe I'll uninstall it and see if that clears it up. Still would like to hear from anyone else that had (has) the same problem and what was done to fix it. Right now ilovetofly has been grounded!!!;(

I've tried several of the beta driver sets for my GeForce 6800, and on all of them i get black backgrounds on all the trees on the ground. It seems like the card doesn't know how to render the alpha channel on the trees.Does anyone else out there have a 6800? Do you have the same problem?

I'm using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick, and the @#$%! thing won't stay calibrated for more than about 5 minutes in FS2004 or CFS3. The centre point drifts to the left and eventually I lose all deflection to the right. I've also found that it is hyper-sensitive to right-hand twist, and I sometimes lose 50% of the right-hand twist.It's driving me nuts. A quick search of the forums shows I'm not alone in these problems with Logitech sticks but nobody seems to have any answers.Supposedly you unplug and replug the joystick to calibrate it, which works about 1/3 of the time. Hi all, I am getting a new computer. A Dell 4600 3.06ghz, 512 ram. It has a integrated Intel graphics card. I can add a AGP card as the computer does come with a AGP slot. Since I have been running on a 1.4ghz Celeron I figured this is going to be a big leap. Anybody running the intergrated video & sound card? Are you happy with them? I'm using an ATI 9800 pro and occasionally I'll lose anti-aliasing when alt-tabbing, using the pull down menus, etc.I always had problems getting AA back until I discovered this method. Has anyone tried this before? If not, if anyone out there loses AA in the future during a flight, give it a try and let me know if you were able to replicate it. I'm curious whether this work around is just a function of my particular PC setup.POSSIBLE WORKAROUND: When you lose anti-aliasing, go to the virtual cockpit and pull down the "views" menu and then choose "view options".
