I found this article over at Tom's Hardware site and thought it does a pretty good job describing how todays video cards work. Most of it is pretty easy to read and understand. Toward the end of the article they tend to get a little too technical for the average person like me. Over all they have a lot of good information.http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040603/index.htmlThere are also links at Tom's Hardware that test both Nvidia and ATI's newest bread of cards.Terry

Hello All,I am having some serious trouble getting FS9 to work on my machine - or at least work to any benefit. I just installed FS9 on a newly-installed copy of Windows XP on a reformatted HD, running on a PIII 1GHz box with an nVidia Ti4200 64MB graphics card. I keep having serious problems using just the default aircraft and scenery. I decided after a lot of trouble to reduce the display settings to Minimum across the board, using 1024x768x32 resolution. Still, even at the lowest quality settings, I can't use FS9.As soon as I load up a flight (default aircraft, default scenery), I immediately experience the following problem. After initially loading, FS9 "hangs" f…

Recently upgraded from a MSI694T/Celeron 1300 to an Abit NF7/AMD XP2600+M. Video card is a Gainward TI4200 Golden Sample 128Meg. Had to replace my old Soundblaster PCI512 with a Soundblaster Live 5.1 due to gamport conflicts with the mother board. Have 1 gig of PC3200. With the Celeron I mostly got frame rates around 20 and no noticable stutters. With the new system I get frame rates over 35 but the simulation will just stall for 3 to 5 seconds at a time. During the stall there is no hard drive activity. Same thing happen in MS Train Simulator and CFS3. Tried turning off the sound card harware acceleration-no effect. I'm running the lates Nvidia mother board drive…

(Connected to the RAID ATA/133/100/66/33 Connector)(Note, I am giving some consideration to a RAID 0+1 Configuration, but it is doubtful that I will go that way)Now my question, would the following work?1. With medium autogen, clouds and scenery detail plus GA Traffic, ActiveSky, FSForce and FS Terrain mesh all installed it does about 18 fps locked in VFR over rural areas, dropping to around 10 over cities, and as low as 6 over big enhanced airports. I want to run the FSD Piper Navajo, and am hoping the upgrade will make the difference.Any predictions?

Hello. Am not sure if this subject has been covered, if so I apologize and thanks for the link...So, I have an HP desktop, and want to replace the motherboard and CPU. Typical of today, I have no WinXP disc, it all came on the computer. I do have a set of 6 recovery discs. Anyway, my question is, how do I reload WinXP after replacing my motherboard? Was told I need a disc to get started. Thanks in advance for the help.regards,Bill

Hi all! I'm sure this question has been asked before so here it is again. I am looking at getting a new gaming computer and I'm not sure what chip to go with. The guy at the computer shop said his choice would be the Athlon 64 FX53 ($1149 can). I was looking at the Intel P4 3.4Extreme($1479 can). I've always used Intel chips, but I'm really not technical enough to know what is better. His thoughts was the Extreme chip is not worth the $1000 more then the other chips(meaning the Prescott chip). The benchmarks say the AMD FX53, but in an artical here I read with regards to the alienware area 51 they would not coment on the 64 bit processors nor did they like them at thi…

Looking at upgrading my MB and am wondering whether or not to wait for one that is PCI Express compatable. I assume that I have to wait, that the current PCI slots won't work with it, and that they should be out relatively soon. Any thoughts? The new ATI X800 requires it and it's supposed to be a super card....billg

When I view Properties on my FF Pro stick I get an instant error message saying that the power is not connected. IT IS! The green LED is on and steady. This coincides with having installed a new motherboard - Gigabyte GA-7N400E-L and a new Gigabyte Radeon 96S128D graphics card which is 8x AGP. I am certain that the joystick is OK but that it is incompatible with these new components. I have totally formatted my C drive and installed a clean W98 4.10 1998. I've also searched MS site for an answer and I have upgraded driver to V3.02 all to no avail. I have removed the drivers and the component in C-panel Display and reloaded them four or five times. FS9 Multiplayer does not find or identify IP addresses. It worked fine for several months, but then last week it would not identify IP's during a search, even though I knew the site was active and functioning properly. This problem exists even with all firewalls and security programs totally deactivated! The ports (both client and host) are set at the default (23456). I have reinstalled both FS9 and DirectX 9.0 with no improvement. I can multiplay on Links 2003, and TeamSpeak works properly. Can anyone give me any ideas at all as to how to solve this?Steve Baker

OK... so as of now, we can run an AGP card and a PCI card on the same MOBO/PC.So when PCI Express gets going later this year or early next year, will we be able to run a PCI Express card and an AGP card together? The idea of using my 9500pro as a -second- video card is kind of exciting... let alone all of you who have 9800pro or higher cards.Talk about cranking up the frame rates on a dual monitor setup. I think this combo would make any of us happy.

Hi,I just tried the new 61.12 Forceware drivers from guru3d and aside from 10% fps enhancement, I found that of all the things in the world my notepad.exe didn't work anymore (100% CPU and it didn't show *.txt files correctly). After some trial and error, I found that the "nView Desktop Manager" was to blame. So better keep it disabled; this is also true for the 61.11 drivers.RegardsOliver
