My present P4 rig (see sig) runs FS2004 pretty well, but as those of you who run complex addons, maxed sliders and in particular multi-monitor would know, there is always room for improvement.I am presently building a computer for my parents, down at the back for buck end of the performance spectrum, and have all but decided on an AthlonXP 2500+ setup. Word has it that most Barton 2500+s readily overclock to 3200+ speed which, if I can achieve this, temps me to swap out the guts of my computer with theirs and enjoy the 3200+ speed myself. Of course, I would make the exchange equitable for them.Question is, is it worth the effort? How would my P4 @ 2.7GHz on a 150MHz bus…

Hi TFT,The upgrade to 1gb of ram would give you a nice boost in "smoothness" in the sim. However, if you could find a buyer for your 2600 among family for friends to help offset the cost of a new 3000, then I would get both the 3000 and the additional 1gb or ram. That would get you a very nice increase indeed :-)Take care TFT and let us know how the upgrade goes!!

  8. Have had 256 X800 for about 1 hour now. FS9 better/same.Same I/O issues plague the sim with new card, but once you have filled the video-buffer with video it's pretty smooth, no matter where you look, no matter what the detail, etc.But change views two or three times, and it's stutters just like a 64 meg machine with a 8 meg card...but only for a moment.Cheers,btPS...3.2Ghz proc, Asus 800 P4T-E (or something like that!)

Does anyone have the above MotherBoard or any other out of that series (i.e. P4C800E Deluxe, P4P800 etc.) with a RAID0+1 Harddrive configuration installed? I see the RAID0, and RAID1 configuration with setup instructions in the manual, and on my software installation CD, but thus far see nothing regarding RAID0+1 except that the board supports it. Does anyone have a set of instructions for RAID0+1 hookup and configuration setup and if so, where might I obtain a copy? I wonder if I am just overlooking the obvious and you go through the configuration for both "RAID0 AND RAID1". I thought the instructions were either/or, not both.Any enlightenment sure would be appreciated. …

I already asked about this here: http://www.fs2004.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15447 but any further suggestions would be welcome.Using a 9800 Pro 128MB with dual monitors - normally have throttles, spot plane and top down view on secondary screen; virtual cockpit on main. After flying for a while (anything from 5 minutes to an hour), large blank squares start appearing on the top down view. They're coloured as they should be e.g. blue over the sea, but no texturing at all. All other views are fine, fps doesn't change.I'm running 1280x960 on each screen (same as desktop), with 2xAA set in Catalyst 4.5 drivers.

I just installed an ati radeon 9800 and discovered that with FS2002 (I keep it only to fly PIC and PSS 744/777) when I drop the program into the background (I do this a lot on long flights so I can get other work done :-) ) after I bring it back up, I have lost my view. The panel is still there, but when I try to look outside of the aircraft, I still have the panel. All outside views are gone. Sometimes I just get black screen. This only happens in FS2002 and only since I upgraded the video card. FS9 works beautifully. Any suggestions?Scott

  15. Hi,Would appreciate some help here. I am using CH Flight Sim Yoke and Pro Pedals - both USB devices. I recently installed CH Control Manager version 3 after uninstalling the previous version and using CHDelete to remove all traces. All seems fine until I enter Slew mode in the sim at which point the world immediately starts spinning from right to left until, that is, I nudge the Pro Pedals and stability returns.I haven't been able to figure out what could be wrong. I've tried recalibration and setting up a null zone in FSUIPC but still no joy. I've restored default settings in the sim, setup null zones for the pedals and still same story. This did not happen before when I d…

I was thinking of upgrading to the X800 XT from my 9800 Pro and was wondering how an X800 Pro performs with the default 3D clouds with 4x FSAA. Right now I can use 2x FSAA at 1152x865 res with full 3D clouds with good overall performance but 4x FSAA is too slow sometimes when flying near many clouds. I know the X800 XT isn't in the market yet but if the X800 Pro is going to give a good performance increase then obviously the X800 XT will give a better performance increase. Will the X800 Pro give a better performance with the default clouds while using 4x FSAA than the 9800 Pro?

For my system, it is just about time for a harddrive upgrade.I presently am running a 40GB SCSI and 40GB IDE 7500RPM secondary. I have my system and FS9 programs on the primary with everything else on the secondary. The primary is nearing capacity. My Motherboard is a P4C800 Deluxe which if I read the manual correctly, has SATA and/or RAID capability. I have rebuilt upgrades to numerous computers so am not a complete dummy, but have virtually no knowledge of the ins and outs relative to harddrive choices and configurations. The most complex program I deal with on my computer is FS9. My initial question is to what type of new harddrive or harddrives should I upgrade? More t…

I presently am considering upgrading from onboard sound to a separate new sound card arrangement.I really don't know whether this would be a noticable improvement and/or improve FS9 performance or not. The only fault I have found useing SoundMax onboard sound is that some addon FS9 gauge functions turn off all but my subwoofer, front left and right speakers. Sound remains pretty good though. Default FS9 gauges or other sound use does not do this and all speakers remain alive. Rear and center front speakers normally have a much lower volume also when in use. I am not sure a unique sound card would fix this. It might do the same thing. If so, the upgrade will probably be a …

The reason I want a 20" LCD monitor is because it has the standard 4:3 aspect ratio and want to free up some desk space. On Friday I ordered a Sony SDM-S204/B LCD monitor but now I'm not sure if I should refuse shipment or give the monitor a chance. It has a very cool design and looks like a quality product. Does anyone one have this LCD and know how it performs in FS2004, especially for night flying. Will the 25ms response time make it hard to read taxi way signs while I'm moving. I'm upgrading from a Sony G420 19" CRT.
