I am making a transition from the system shown in my signature to an ASUS P4C800E-Deluxe mobo and 3.2 GHz 800FSB P4 with hyperthreading.I know from the many posts I've seen that ultimately some of my FS or Non-FS software may not run well with HT but so far I've been OK. I'm expecting the benefit (if any) to be in smoothness not frame rate....I can set affinity to assign a processor for FS9 and many other processes. However, for Sygate Firewall and Norton Anti-virus (two things that I see grabbing cycles), the set affinity seems to be blocked and I can't even see the settings let alone change them. All I want to do is put FS9 on the processor where these aren't if possibl…

Hello all,My neighbor asked a question last evening and I didn't know the answer, so I felt I would put it to you all.He has two computers...one XP Pro which FS is on and another which has 98SE which does not have FS. He wants to network them together and run FSNav on the 98SE computer while he is running FS9.I wasn't sure if these two systems would operate in a network together, or run FSNav with WideFS. He has some LinkSys ethernet cards which he inherited from work.........not sure if any of that will 'fly'......perhaps someone could step in and lend a hand.If it will work with 98 and XP, are the Link cards ok or is something else necessary.....pretty stupid on netwo…

Hi Guys,I just thought that I would post my experiences with the above drivers. On the driver forums they have been getting mixed reviews. Some people are swearing by them others are saying they are seeing problems with fog tables and CTD's.Anyway being an inverterate fiddler I couldn't resist giving them a try.So I created a restore point, uninstalled the old drivers via the add / remove program dialogue box and installed the 60.72's.First of all looking at the driver version panel, the first four files (display driver, miniport, open gl and display properties extension) are shown as version 52.16. The remaining files are shown as 60.72.Bear in mind these are leaked betas …

No recent discussion regarding this was found :)I have:AMD 2700+Radeon 9600 ProGeForce 4 MX420512mb DDR400Win XP I've tried ASUS A7N8X-X before but hated the BIOS/POST (frequent booting error and noted on many other forums). It's unstable. I now have Gigabyte GA-7S748 but my dx9 games cause the computer to crash/restart (BSOD with no text). So.. please help me find a new board! :)

Hi All,I am about to retire my 4 year old Dell PIII 866Mhz and build myself a new box of tricks. My question is WHAT to go for ?AMD64 3200+ OR P4 3.0Ghz (they are both within my budget)I will put a 'Gig O Ram' in to the new machine, but will have to use my old Graphics Card which is a 128Mb Ti4200, which, to be fair has been great. This will all run with XP Pro.Your guidance is welcomed,Thanks in anticipation, and Happy Flyin...Eddy

NVIDIA is releasing the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra video card. It is supposed to run circles around the ATI 9800Pro. One problem I saw is that there are two Molex power supply inputs. They recommend at least a 460 W. power supply with two individual leads direct from the power supply with no other units, other than fans, connected on the two leads. List price is $499 and from what I saw it is scheduled to hit the streets in 45 days. Guess I'll wait to see how it performs with FS2004 before I buy one. I was thinking of getting the 9800XT. The reviews give it great benchmarks, but I have not found any FS2004 benchmarks. If anyone sees any benchmarks for FS2004 please post th…

My old GeForce2 GTS card died recently, and I replaced it with a newSapphire Radeon 9600 Atlantis. After fighting many installation problems I finally got it running withFS2002, but I have a couple of problems still (neither of which happenedwith the old card):1. Frame rates drop suddenly from 15 to 1 or 2 for no apparent reason.2. PC locks occasionally, sometimes after switching back to Flight simwhen the display is black with compressed grey stuff like a mangledwindow in the middle.Nothing is running in the background when FS2002 is running.I think I've found some sort of clue about problem 1: the place I've hadmost problems is Florida. I have no special scenery in Flori…

Yes, I know ... typically there is no reason to wait to buy a computer because there is always something bigger and better just around the corner. No matter what you do, you're going to be behind the curve within a couple of weeks. However ... it really seems like the CPU's and chipsets are on the cusp of some changes, with the current CPU sockets at the end of their line. That said, I've been looking at the hardware sites this morning (i.e. Tom's), and I am really confused about the timeline for upcoming releases, and I'm having a hard time getting a sense of whether I'm going to wait three months or six months or if I might as well just purchase now.I will be building th…

Tomshardware just posted a super long and interesting article on brand new Nvidia Ultra 6800. Apparently Nvidia did extremely good job this time around. This is how he ends his article...Now that NVIDIA has raised the standard in such a breathtaking way, we are all waiting with bated breath for ATi's answer in the shape of the R420, which will launch with either 12 or 16 pixel pipelines later this month. I am currently using the CH Products Yoke and Pro Pedals. Since I fly the Airbus alot, I am looking for a good general joystick that will help me simulate the sidestick controller used on the Airbus. As you know the Airbus sidestick is on the Captain's left side, so this would mean I would have to use my left hand (if I wanted to be the Captain). Anyone using their joystick this way and what might be a good one to pick up at Best Buy for test run? Thanks!Airbus (of course)

10 days ago Fry's had a sale on ATI 9800Pro cards... $200.00US for the genuine article. A friend of mine had offered me $150.00 for my 9700Pro recently so I called him up to seal the deal. Threw the extra required $50.00 into my pocket and headed down to pick up a new 9800Pro. I got the last one on the shelf that didn't have a "return item" sticker on it. Got it installed and happy in my XP system, and then started playing around with overclocking it. I was able to easily get from the stock Pro speeds (380/240) to XT specs (412/365).Last week I ordered a new Arctic Cooler VGA Silencer and some OCZ ramsinks. They arrived today, so naturally I set about installing the…

Morning,I gave a friend of mine my old MS FFB Pro flight stick, and the darn thing will not work on his computer. Works fine on mine. Both computers are nearly the same, with the big difference being the OS. Mine has Win 98SE, and his has Win ME. Both systems have the 3.02 drivers, DX 9.0b, and simular video cards, FX5200 & FX5600. But, when pluged into his puter, we get the dreaded "Not Connected" window, and FS9 indicated the same condition. The old trick of removing power from the computer, unpluging the stick, and wating a few minutes did not work. There is no help at the MS site. Any ideas???Thanks,Layabout

Hi there,I don't know wether to upgrade my graphics card or processor.... my card is very low-end, but I know that FSim is a processor game, so I don't want to spend my money on something that's not going to produce a noticable increase in frame rates. Here's my spec running FS2k2 on XP.Intel (4) 1.7Ghz (unclocked)NVidia RIVA TNT 64 (32mb) Graphics Card512 Mb RAMAny advice much appreciated - there's a nice ATI Radeon 9600 Pro on EBay which I'd like to get today if anyone can help with a quick reply. Thanks again for any input,Tom

Hi,I just recently bought a Radeon 9500 Pro on E-bay and I'm hoping to install it later today for use in FS2004. Since I've never owned an ATI card before, I want to ensure I prepare my system correctly. Here are my settings:Athlon XP 2000+1.67 GHz512 MB RAMnForce motherboardHP MX75 monitorintegrated GeForce-2 3d graphicsI plan to uninstall the NVIDIA drivers, reboot, use Nasty File Remover (NFR) to remove NVIDIA files, then install the 9500 Pro.Should I upgrade the chipset drivers to nForce 3.13 (the latest version)? Last time I tried updating chipset drivers, it crashed my system.I hear that it's a good idea to ensure the latest motherboard BIOS. I have no idea what thi…

Ladies and Gentlement.Currently I'm running a....2.26Ghz (Gateway Brand)768mb DDRAM (PC2100 184Pin)Intel Motherboard (2 Ram Slots)80 GB Hard DriveRadeon 9800 Pro 128mb....and I'm looking to upgrade my RAM. My motherboard can hold 2 GB Ram, and yet I'm thinking hardly on taking out the 256 stick (leaving the 512) and adding another 512 DDRAM stick and having a Gig of ram. Or, if that won't do much then taking out the 256 stick and purchasing a gig of ram to run a gig and half.My question to everyone is, which way would be the best way to go to improve FPS in FS9. Or will this upgrade even affect Flight Sim?Any feedback appreciated!

Hi,I had posted the information below on the Microsoft Simulator Newsgroups (April 4) and wanted to post it here as well to try to be of some help to those of you having those very frustrating and seemingly hopeless blue screens, reboots and frame-freezes with FS2004.Here's a quick summary: I had to manually change the memory latency timings on my Kingston HyperX CL2 from the default 2-2-2-5 (detected by the auto setting on my mobo) to 2-3-3-7 so FS2004 would work properly. My memory is 2x512MB Kingston HyperX 1GB Kit.---------------------------------------------------------------------I wanted to post my ordeal and how I resolved it on these newsgroups to hopefully be of…
