Hi,I dont want to tread on old ground and start up an old discussion on which is the best graphics card but:I have a Gigabyte GA7VRXP 4xAGP 1gig ram Athlon 2600XP and currently use a Geforce Ti4200 with 64meg Ram. I am in a position to purchase a better card and with the introduction of the Nvidia 6800 I was looking at the Gainwood FX5900 Ultra 256 meg ( should drop in price). Has anyone followed this upgrade path and found any real benefits as far as max density in FS and increased frame rates. I am happy to stay with Nvidia but it may be a large expense only to find a small increase in fps. I certainly cannot upgrade the mobo and cpu to get more processing clock cycle…

Hi AllDoes anyone else have the Logitech Freedom 24 Wireless Joystick. Its a great device but with one particualr problem - it seems to just "got to sleep" and leave you without any control over the aircraft until you "wake it up" by pressing a key.I wondered if anyone has figured out how to keep this joystick alive. I am using WindowsXP and a USB 2.0 port. I have tried using the joystick with a USB 1.0 hub but no difference. After a varying amount of time, it just stops responding until you press a button.

Making a flight from Houston (SimFlyers) and 737 PDMG, the frame rate was between 4 a 6. I got a MSI NEO motherboard with 2.8Ghz Intel Pentium 4 1MB FSB, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB, 60GB ATA 100 HDD, 512MB DDR 400. How do I get better performance with my machine and this airplane & scenery????Thanks.:-(

I currently have an Nvidia Ti4400, 4X AGP (128MB DDR) on my system. The rest of the system is an MSI KT6V motherboard, AMD 2600+, 512MB DDR. I saw an ATI Radeon 9600, 8X AGP (256MB DDR) for $129 USD. That sounds like a good price to me. My last two cards have been NVidia and I like them. But, I've read that ATI is better for FS9? I also saw an NVidia 5700 8X AGP (256MB DDR) for the same price. All the reviews are mixed and some favor one or another. So, it seems a toss up. Bottom-line, will it make much of a difference in my current system or should I stay with the Ti4400. Any suggestions/opinions?_________________

Hi all,On my AMD box (FX64, Leadtek FW8NPro MB, XP SP1a), since I upgraded my CH Control Panel to 3.0, I almost get a systematic BSOD with STOP Ox1A on SAINTHID.SYS (a Saitek X36/X45) driver when I exit FS9. Everything works within FS9, including controls, until I exit FS9. It happens perhaps 8 out of 10 times, but is not systematic.Any clues as to what causes this? Given previous woes with Saitek USB drivers under Windows XP, I can only guess that Saitek drivers are the culprit, but I'd like to know of any workaround.Thx,

We "2ch simmer" solved Radeon's no haze isue.at first, open "display.cfg" on FS9 folder, then you recognise no Radeon9000/9100 written there.so, if you add next discription:;---------------------------------------------------------------------- ; ATI Radeon 9000 ;---------------------------------------------------------------------- [00001002:00004966] TableFog=0 ;---------------------------------------------------------------------- ; ATI Radeon 9100 ;---------------------------------------------------------------------- [00001002:0000514D] TableFog=0 then im sure you get much haze.(like Radeon8500)lets try !!(if you know this tips im sorry...i feel great to get fog,so i …

So I'm in a bit of a pickle. I determined I can safely overclock my P4 2.4B to 2.8 using an FSB of 156Mhz and a 1:1 divider on the memory (PC3200 DDR RAM @ 312Mhz). But I need about 1.65v to the CPU to keep it stable.Alternatively, I can go with a 5:4 divider on Mobo, jack the RAM up to 370Mhz, but the FSB can only go to 148Mhz (2.66Ghz). The CPU requires much less voltage, but the memory needs a boost to 2.8V.I'm inclined to think the latter is a better alternative, since my mobo does not have a PCI/AGB bus lock. The HD don't care much for high FSB's.Am I likely to see better overall system performance by favoring faster RAM or faster CPU?Cheers,J

Anyone with an nVidia FX card (I have an FX 5600) using these new drivers have any comments or recommendations as to wether or not I should upgrade from the 45.23's which seem to be performing just fine?Thanks!http://www.2decker.com/media/solent1-2.JPGAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD

Following the advice in a couple of threads in this sub-forum, I have installed the new nVidia 56.72 drivers. As I mentioned in a reply in one of the threads, I did not notice any significant improvement in fps (maybe in smothness) but I had the kneeboard scrolling problem (in AA x2) solved. A negative point was that the letters in the menus were rather fuzzy, while with my previous driver (53.03) they were sharp.I was ready to accept this cost/benefit trade-off (in FS9) when I had to go to FS2k2 for a test. To my surprise I found lots of problems there: after choosing a flight and when the screen displays the 2D panel of the airplane I have chosen, the rendering takes a …

The linked wave file is a sample of how certain aircraft sound in FS2004 since replacing a SBLive! with an Audigy 2. All other games are fine.http://www.paulturnbull.myby.co.uk/fs9sound.wavIt seems that the Audigy 2 has a problem with simultaneous sounds i.e. propeller aircraft which also include environmental sounds such as passing airflow. This distortion only occurs when banking or looking towards the ground - you can hear the distortion come in as I roll. This is an issue that I find hard to ignore as FS2004 is a game that I've invested a lot of money in.The only Audigy 2 software I have installed are the Windows Drivers that came in the box. Nothing else. I've checked…

Hey everyone,Right now I have a Geforce4 4200ti 64mb that came with my Dell 8300 2 years ago. Obviously, that card is past its age and I need to upgrade. After looking at reviews, benchmarks, price etc I'm pretty much sold on getting a ATI 9800 Pro 128mb and hoping to try my hand at overclocking it. The only problem is that in only a few months ATI will probably be releasing their new card. As you all know, this reduces the prices of existing cards. I don't plan on buying this latest card, but should I just spend the $200 now and get my card and enjoy it, or shoudl I wait until the release and try my hand at getting the 9800XT? Thanks! -Cal

I have a problem with the keyboard since when it is bypassed via the ACP it seems to stop working.. I switch on the ACP turn on the PC WinXP SP1 loads normally BUT No keybaord or mouse with ACP on... Do u have any ideas? I don't see any particular driver in the CD supplied, but just a .cfg configurator. I wonder if there's anything in particular I should do to make it work.. My ACP goes via keyb slot, is not a USB ver. maybe I can get something to make it work USB and sove the issue? WinXP SP1 2x512 S3 PC3200 DDR Epox 8RDA3+ motherboard ATI 9800pro 128mb A…

My motherboard has apparently gone kaput. Arrrghh! Oh well I guess, such is life. I am not absolutely postive that is what has gone bad, but I am certainly inclined to think that's what it is. I have had my precious for about a year and four months now. It is out of the one year warranty. This all started about a 10 days ago. At first, I had a couple hard lockups(had to power off) while playing BF1942 and when it locked there was a constant loud screech coming out of my speakers. So at first I thought it might be the latest driver patch I installed for my Audigy2 Soundcard from Creative dated 03-29-2004. But then, I got a couple of hard lockups while just browsing the net,…

Hi all,Wanting to upgrade my pc to improve my FS9 and PMDG737NG experience. I'm not that hot on system perfomance and so need the help of you experts. Here's what I got:MSI 6380 Motherboard (AGP 4x)AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (Max for mobo)768Mb RAMNVIDIA GeForce2 MX (AGP)17" CRTIn the next few weeks a mate is giving me another 17" CRT so I want to run two screens. I'll use one screen as main view and the second for Squawkbox, ACARS, etc.Now I've read around this is best done through a second graphics card. At the moment my AGP graphics card is pretty rubbish. So here's my questions:1) Do I buy a topend PCI graphics card and run this as my primary display with my current AGP as se…

Hi everyone: Looking at the Radeons, a simple question is, at the high resolutions, (16X12, etc.), is the 9800 really 50% faster than the 9500 Pro? I'm trying to decide whether a 9800 is worth the money. Keith

HiI'm currently running fs9 on a P4 1.7ghz 512mb Dell. The card is a standard Radeon 9600 (non-pro).FPS is just about acceptable -- lowest around 10fps over busy airports with GA-Traffic, ActiveSky, Active Camera and FsForce all running, on medium Display settings. But I'd like more. The obvious choice is a Radeon 9800 PRO -- which someone's offering for a decent price. Can anyone advice on the likely benefits. Is it worth it, given the slower processor than ideal for Flight Sim.I can't easily make a case for a new PC because its fast enough for everything else it does. Its a Dell Dimension 8100 P4 with the old-style 423 socket so upgrading the processor is difficult…

I just bought this controller tonite & am very happy with it. It's made my flights much more stable & enjoyable.I haven't played with the profiler yet thinking I could do all my programming right in FS9. I've been able to do everything i wanted to with it thus far except for 1.I'd like to be able to use Rotary 1 as my elevator trim but FS9 doesn't seem to recognize it. I can program buttons to do it but not Rotary 1. I went into "Joystick axis" and found the right spot, FS9 ses that's what I want to use for ele trim but it doesn't work for me.I was able to assign rotary 2 as my prop pitch & that has worked with no problem. Rotary 1 does work properly in the ca…

All,I have read through the FAQ at the head of this forum and implemented most of its suggestions. However I am still getting bad frame rates in areas that I should be getting better. My Hardware is...-3.0 Ghz P4 O/C'd to 3.3 Ghz-1Gb RAM-Sapphire 9800XT GRaphics card-SB Audigy Platinum Sound card.-Microsoft FF2 Joystick. No scenery add-ons.Sitting on the strip at KSEA in the 172 the frame rates are at 15-17. After taking off and making an immediate left hand turn towards the west to avoid the town. After about 2 mins, the frame rates drop to 11 fps. This doesn't seem right to me that the frames should drop down that far when I'm at 3000ft and looking towards some mountains.…

Dear People, I have a Microstar MSI 6378 motherboard, AMD 2400+ CPU, 1GB of SDRAM 133, SoundBlaster Audigy 2 card, and Gainward Nvidia GeForce Mx 420 card (64Mb only). I have my Frame rates locked at 15 fps in FS2002.I can only afford to upgrade one component at this time, and I feel that the graphics card should be it. First question would you agree with that? I read, in another post on the MSFS forum, about someone advising another to get rid of the MX440 (mine is MX420; most likely very similar).Next question, is then, what card would you advise me to get? It has got to be a PCI card, because my MS6378 does not have an AGP slot!Any advise would be welcome, and thanks…

Hi,This may be old news to all you pros out there. Nevertheless, I thought this info might be helpful for those of you who may have been experiencing difficulties enabling A-A following an Omega driver update.I can only speak for the Omega versions of the Catalyst drivers with reference to my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB. Normally I do a full uninstall of graphic drivers before installing updates, so it might explain why this issue has not cropped up before now. On this occasion, just for the hell of it, I thought I would install ver 2.5.36b over 2.5.36a. These are based on the 4.4 Cats. All went well with the installation. Following a reboot, I updated my fs9.cfg and fired …
