Came across this thread while browsing through some tech forums.Adaptive Anti-Aliasing is evidently supported with the Catalyst 5.9 driver. What this does is it gets rid of those annoying shimmering that you see on fences and autogen trees. It makes the overall picture looks "cleaner".However use AAA wisely as naturally there will be some FPS hit.On my X800 PRO it is minimal and worth the effort.A word of warning,to enable this you have tweak the registry.Do this at your own risk.It does work, you will find an extra icon on the CCC below Temporal AA.I would think that ATI would probably make this official in the next driver.Good Luck.

Hello,I have just upgraded from a bottom range card to an X850 Pro ATI having sought advice on this forum which was very helpful. I did the right thing, even though I would be a electronic amateur by completely reformatting my PC and installed the drivers on a new partition having used Driver Cleaner Pro. But even thought I am quite capable of reading the documentation I still dont really know what terms mean and what certain settings mean, does anybody who has an X850 Pro have the time to give me a general idea of the configuration ie Anti Aliasing, AF etc (still don't know whether AA is better contolled from Fs9 or from ATI menu)? Any help would be appreciated,Spec isn'…

  3. I have a new video card, nothing to write home about (6600GT PCI-e).After installing new PC components, I have changed my room around a bit and am now attempting to hook up LCD monitors- one to the VGA port and one to the DVI. I realize that both will have the same picture, it's just that one is placed to sim and one to do other stuff like e-mail and work. The DVI output works fine, but I seem to be having trouble with the VGA output. At first I thought that the card may not support 2 monitors connected at once, however the VGA port appears dead even when its the only port connected. I've checked the manual to see if there is something needed to activate the VGA port, b…

  4. Another official new 8x series driver came out today and STILL no fix for the massive texture corruption seen in FS9 on a 7800 series card with any driver above the 7x series. How is this possible, FS is still in the top 10 seeling PC games and I know I'm not the only one seeing this issue with a 7800. Really ticks me off that I give them $600 for a video card and then get ignored when a massive problem with my main app pops up.It's easy to say "Oh just roll back to the 7x series" but I'm also a big gamer in other genres and the 80 series driver is required for new games like FEAR, HL2 with the the HDR lighting, Call of Duty 2, etc. It's a huge annoyance to have to switc…

I took the plunge and got a second monitor for my FS rig over the holidays and I had no problem setting everything up. I am using an nVidia card with the nVidia desktop manager. However, I do have a few questions: I was hoping to view add-on programs, like FS Flight Keeper, ASV, etc on the second monitor, maybe even browse the web during medium-haul flights, but FS9 automatically minimizes when I try to do something on the second monitor and there doesn't seem to be an option to disable this "task switch". Is there any way to prevent this? Also, is it even possible to have a spot or top-down view on the 2nd monitor? It is easy to display throttle or radio stack in the other…

A new system and brand new fresh XP-SP2 install. Working great. What I need to do now is install stuff like MSOffice, some other work apps that I use, and not forgetting an anti-virus app (I'm already being careful to not expose my new machine to the internet more then necessary). I have Norton AV/Internet Security. On my old system, I had everything known to man on my C: install of XP, and after that slowed down I installed a multi-boot XP instance to D: for FS. I really got sick of the rebooting to change the XP, though.Hardware tweaking aside (which I look forward to doing), how can I have my cake and eat it too as far as applications go? I know I can create sepera…

  8. Hello,As you see in my config below I run 3 monitors onto 2 video cards. To day my monitors have the "identity" 1 and 3 on my GF TI4600 and the "identity" 2 on the GF FX5200.Is it possible to change the identity of a monitor and if "yes" how to? I try to have "identity" 1 and 2 onto the TI4600 and "identity" 3 onto the FX5200.This has an impact on the game Flight Simulator FS2004 or FS9.Thanks in advance.

Hi.Recently, I have reverted to Windows XP and 1Gb from x64 and 2gb.This is because I decided I wanted to use the Garmin GPS systems and a friend of mine needed some RAM which I sold to him.I have also taken fs9 off my Raptor and put it with everything else on a 400gb RAID 0 array.Since I have done all this, I have not been happy with my scenery texture loading times. My frame rates are excellent. My spec is:AMD Athlon 64 3800+2x512mb PC32001x WD Raptor 36Gb 10k RPM2x WD Caviar 200Gb 7.2k RPMRadeon X800xl 256Mb GDDR3Audigy2 ZSWhat happens now is the scenery textures don't seem to come into focus as quickly as they used to. I've searched and am unable to find an answer.I have 2 machines, both with FS9 installed. Neither of them connect to the Internet. My questions are: "Can I connect them together so that both machines can fly together in formation flying? If so, what hardware configuration would allow this? Would a special utility program be required?I am aware that online flying would be the answer but I chose to keep these machines without Internet access.Thank you, in advance, for any help and suggestions.Kind Regards,Bobby

I have a pretty elderly TI Microlaser Plus printer that prints a horizontal line across each page about 1/4 the way down the page. There is other print that one can also see very faintly on the page as well if one looks closely that seems to be retained in memory. The desired printout is fine with the exception of that line that shows up, and it pretty well overwrites anything else in the area of desired printing.I have cleaned until I am blue in the face, and replaced the exit rollers. I would have thought they would have caused a vertical line anyway, not horizontal.Any ideas would be appreciated.RTH

I have this problem when using the ADV display window in FS. As you can see in the attachment, when opening the ADV display window, anything below it is obscured. This happens both docked and undocked.I found that if I reduce my anti-aliasing settings in my NVidia 7800 card to anything but 8x then it solves this problem. However if I set the antialiasing settings to application controlled, I get jagged edges.Does anybody know how I can get the ADV display to work properly and have a maximum anti-aliasing setting?I have the NVidia 7800 GT graphics card with the 81.98 drivers.Benhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137691.jpg

So after spending the bulk of the last two days reading through post after post of "who has what latest and greatest", the following thoughts came to me.It is obvious that we are just now really coming to a place where the technology and resources are available to really really make FS9 Scream, the way we all dreamed it would and could in the beginning. Now, if we use FS98, (note, 98) as the benchmark, with all the current equipt, we could make that scream as well, but everything that we would have would be extreme overkill for that issue. As we now can start dreaming about FS10 just a few short months or so off, it is realistic to believe that it won't be until well into 2…

  17. Hypothetically, if you had to put an order in today or in the next few weeks, where would you look? Dell XPS with all available options or Alienware could be choices. Assume money is not the object. Important, but if we have to borrow...so be it.What's the best CPU, OS, Graphics, Sound, etc. I'm not interested in super cooling or exotic builds. What's the best system for the Flight Simmer that wants smoothness?I know, we don't know the specs of FSX, but let's assume it's going to need something strong to utilize all its features. Although I plan to buy in August, I would like to know what exists today as the "dream system".

Hey all,Just wondering if changing my card from a Radeon 9800 Pro to a Nvidia 6600GT would be a worthwhile upgrade. My Radeon is nearing the end of it's life, I'm afraid, and I'm hoping to get comparable performance from a 6600GT, if not a little better performance. Thanks.

Hey guys, need some advice. I just got a new rig up and running using the new Asus A8N32 - SLI DLX MOBO and I am trying to get my joystick to work. My previous board is ASUS and I had to add the gameport connection to the MOBO and it worked fine. Did the same with this one, but it's not detected in the hardware area. I know some have had issues with getting the MS FFsidewinder 2 to work under XP, but I haven't (worked perfectly on the last 2 machines with XP) and hope that this isn't the issue. 22. I just bought a Samsung 930B flat panel, and while it seems to work well (no ghosting, dead pixels, etc), it just seems small and I perceive a lack of resolution in FS2004 going to 1280x1024. How do folks who have them like using a native 1600x1200 panel? Any issues outside of FS? I'm concerned that standard non-FS tasks will be hard to do with the fine resolution (small fonts, etc). What about response time? The fastest 20.1" that I can see (for less than $700 has a 16ms response. Is that sufficient? What's your experience? Thanks and happy new year.

  23. Hi folks,Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great Christmas.I'm having a problem I can't seem to figure out. I have 256M SDRAM which came with my system. I recently added 256M more for Total of 512M. When I have to shut down for any reason, I have to leave the computer off for at least 30mins to an hour or I only get the 256M Ram on startup. In other words, I have only 256M of RAM. It doesn't seem to hurt anything to run the computer with only the 256 but I am used to the extra RAM when simian', so I only do emails and other stuff when it is like this. It doesn't seem to be a voltage thing, or a heating problem. One clue might be that on startup RAM test the co…

I've alraedy figured out that this does not refer to AI traffic in FS9 :). Just what is this, and is this something that I should have?Thanks- and thanks to everyone that offered assistance while I was researching this upgrade. From a previous post I have not installed the IDE drivers from ASUS.Thanks- Bruce.
