Hi,Ok, if you have a Intel HT CPU, and either the NEW GNS530/430 or the a36 do me a little favour.Run FS and take a note of your FPS reading, alt-tab out of FS and open the taskmanager, then fond the process/processes "ntvdm.exe" not how much CPU time its taking, and kill the process, then re-enter FS and see what has happened to the FPS?ThanksDan.

hey all, I just picked up a new x52 for FS2004 and have a couple problems with the config that I cant seem to figure out.For one thing, the top rotator on the throttle does not seem to work. It works in the setup software, and I can assign it (I tried assinging it rudder trim, and then tried assigning it look panning) but it doesnt do what it is assigned to do. The horizontal one works fine (I have been using it for elevator trim so far). The other thing is that FS2004 says that it should use the hat switch by default for all the look directions. I cant get that to work either (unless it uses a specific hat switch that I am messing up by programming it elsewhere... but …

Hi everyone. For Christmas this year, I got an ATI X800 XL PCIE board for my computer (I had been using an X300 believe it or not). So, I was looking forward to seeing some FPS improvement and be able to turn on AA and anisotropic filtering. I installed the card and I get one of the following errors within a few minutes of flight:1) The game freezes and I have to hard reboot.2) The screen goes black and whatever sound was on loops. I then have to hard reboot.3) The VPU Recover window pops up and tells me the GPU has been reset. Soon after 1) or 2) occurs. To try to solve this problem, I've done the following:1) Updated to 5.13 catalyst drivers from ATI2) Updated the d…

I am running Fs2004 on a three year old P42.4Mhz with 512MB ram and a 64MB Gf4Mx440 graphics card. As FsX will arrive only in a year I have decided to upgrade a bit my old computer a bit by adding 512MB of ram and also a new and cheap 128MB video-card (90-110euro). So I have made some research on the Internet and I am hesitating now between the Radeon 9600Xt(95 euro) and an Geforce 6600TD(110 euro) which should both almost double my frame-rate, if I believe what I have read.Which one is the better card for FS2004? Ande very important, as I am no specialist, are those cards easy to install? Do they need a special power-supply ?Thanks in advance. Guy

PMDG 737 series 747 series Level D 767 Flight 1 Ultimate Terrian and Cessna 172 and Mega scenery Socal Vol 2 and Nor Cal plus a few more addon aircraft and I use Vatsim but for testing my comp latley I havent been using it. System is a P4 3.4, 2G ram - nVidia 6800 card running 2 monitors.Generally have no problems with frame rates, stutters, etc. However, had something happen today for the first time that has me puzzled - how to explain it.After taking off, in normal 2D cockpit view - if I look left with the hat switch - there is a slight pause and the display shows the initial view at the gate - IOW - the same view as when I was parked on the ground! This lasts for a split second and then the view I want to see is displayed. Has never happened before and is just happening enough to be annoying. It's like the earlier views aren't cleared from memory.Anyone have any thoughts?Thanx,Vic BaronVisit…

As part of a complete system overhaul I am looking at a top notch motherboard. Something that will allow as many years of future upgrades, with as little limitation as possible.I happened to come across the Gigabyte GA-8N-SLi whilst searching and on reading it appears to offer a fantastic amount of features for both SLi and SATA-2 as well as dual gigabit LAN and 10USB ports.Just wondering if this is about the best buy at the moment -

Hi guys!Since around one month my PC resets randomically when I use FS, only FS. Using all other applications (Photoshop, CorelDraw, Office, video and audio apps, etc...) there is no problem. Resets are random because they are generate in each situations: confirming a loaded flight plan, loading a FP by the FMC, loading textures of an airport, setting data in the FMC, opening a window in the panel...Two weeks ago, I've tested my RAM (1GB DDR400 - Dual Channel) using MEMTEST86 (hope to remember right the name) that did find several wrong addresses in a bank. I changed that RAM bank and the PC came back to work right for another two weeks. Two days ago a new reset... So, I'…

Sorry but I think I posted this is in the wrong forum folder. I just noticed that Nvidia has released driver 81.98. It apparently addresses some corruption and texture issues within FS2004 when using 6800 and 7800 videocards.Regards,Richard

I have what is hopefully an easy question for some of you regarding IDE speeds. Can CD or DVD drives run through a PCI IDE card, or is there a significant access speed decrease in running the HDD through a PCI IDE card vs. straight to the MB controller? Here is the scenario:I am doing a fresh build/install of a FS dedicated machine. My original intent was to set up a RAID 0 configuration, however doing this at the MB level was unsuccessful. (If anyone is using a Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra 939 and has had success doing this with IDE drives please share!) As a result I result I partitioned 1/2 of each of my hard drives C: (OS will go here)and D: (storage)at 75 GB each, and then…

Hi all! I have a computer built on an ASUS A7V8X-X board. The processor is an AMD XP2200, and the power supply is a 400 watt unit. On FS9 I was running low frame rates so I decided to upgrade my RAM and video card. I was running 512mb of DDR2700 333mhz memory and a Nvidia FX5200 video card. I installed another 1.5gb of memory for a total of 2gb. I ran FS9 and my frame rates went up, not as much as I had hoped but about 4 to 5 fps. Then I installed an ASUS N6800XT/TD 128 video card and my frame rates have gone DOWN by about 2 to 3 fps. I removed all traces of NVIDIA files from the computer that I could find, shut down, restarted and installed the newest NVIDIA driver, wh…

A friend of mine was having trouble with his memory, so I offered to put it in my machine and run diagnostics on it. This resulted in the death of my machine (either the Athlon XP 2400+ or the motherboard). So yesterday I was feeling a bit impulsive, and I have splashed out on the following:Asus A8N-E Ultra mobo (Socket 939, Nforce 4 Ultra chipset)Amd Athlon 64 3700+, San Diego core, 1Mb L2 cachePowerColor ATI Radeon X800 GTO 256MB GDDR3Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 200GB SATA 8MB Cache. The total cost (including shipping) is around

I have tried all the recommendations I can find about minimising stutters whilst turning but nothing works. It makes flying agile fighters an unpleasant experience.Does anyone have any suggestions?AMD 64 3800+2x512mb PC320036Gb Raptor2x200Gb SATA WDC in RAID 0FS9 on RAID arrayWindows on the RaptorI am completely happy with all aspects of my FS9 experience apart from this.I am using FSAutostart (makes no difference)I have tweaked FS9.CFG to death trying all the different texture bandwidth settings. It still stutters pretty badly in steep and fast turns.Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

Hello,Here are below 2 screnees of my problem. My specs are in the signature, no over clock at all.Could this be related to AGp chipset of the motherboard?, and how to fix this. This started to happen after I updated the catalyst driver.I have actualy:Driver 6.14.10.6587 and catalyst 5.13VGA memory clock is default 337.5 and VGA core clok is also default 378.0This prob does not happen right away, but after a while playing aroundThanks very much for your input, it will be very helpfull to me. if I could avoid bying a new card, it would be great for my next PC...USER EDIT:I do not know what happened with the screnees, in the forum the resolution looks absolutely awfull, but i…

Hehe,Shameless plea for help. :-lolI'm getting back into painting and discovered that my 9800SE has semi-failed with artifacting around the corners of sharp edges (I think I was playing with over-clocking too much and caused it). I wanted a new card anyway, and needed opinions from simmers who actually are using the types I'm considering in daily flightsimming use.I don't care how the card performs in any other app (like Quake 3, HL2, FEAR, etc), I want this card specifically for simming.I've read the forum and seen the Nivida series driver problems, but I am looking at the 6600GT and was wondering if anyone is using that one in flightsim that could report.I'm also consi…

Before I go and activate my newly installed WinXP, I'm wondering if there's any downside to using the onboard NIC vs a PCI NIC card? I think that the internet is a limiter in speed of data transfer. Just wondering if there's a reason related to CPU resources to go for the PCI card.Thanks- Bruce.

I have an external HD that I use to store stuff that I can't afford to lose. I've just rebuilt a system and wanted to capture that nice new XP install on my external HD for possible restore later if ever needed. It's way too smooth and quick to loose over time as XP gets corrupted :)I've tried both in normal and safe mode to copy/paste OS files to my external HD, but keep getting the message that files are in use and cannot be copied. Is there an easier way to backup files? I'm sure that I'm missing something basic here :)Thanks, Bruce.
