I have struggled through this for a few days now, tweaking settings etc but to no avail, it's time to ask for help !I have a BFG GeForce 6600GT OC on my home PC running FS9.1 and whenever I set anti aliasing to 8xS (the max it will allow) I eventually get my system to either crash completely or go into a re-boot.It happens at different points, sometimes during taxi, during take off roll, cruise or on approach, happens every time, no matter what aircraft, airport or region of the World.I have tried changing as many display options as I can think of but the result is always the same.Another anomoly at 8xS is the aircraft does not appear in the FS menu window.Whenever I lowe…

Putting together a new machine ... But once again, we have that dreaded video card war.ATI X1800XT or nVidia 7800GTXPreferences and reasoning?I'm not looking at SLI/Crossfire type configurations so single card reasoning only please. Since these things become obsolete the day you buy them, buying 2 of them makes even less sense x( Ray(ps: waiting is not an option ... need machine now)

Hi all,I just put together a new pc. AMD64 X2 4400+ w/Nvidia 6800GS 256, card, and 1gig of ram. FS looks awesome now, and I can run with 25-30fps consistantly. The only thing that isn't working right, is now there is no plane in the preview window when I create a flight or am changing planes.Does anyone know why? I have the latest Nvidia 81.98 drivers which is supposed to fix some FS9 issues. Thanks in advance,

OK. I figure that since I am seriously into flight sims I am going to start my search for a solution here. Bear with me for a sec - I need to set some stuff up.First I upgraded my machine a month ago. AMD 64 3800+ X2 processor on an ASRock motherboard w/ 2GB DDR PC3200 Ram and an ATI 9800 Pro Video card (128 mb). I then upgraded to add an ASUS A8N SLI Premium motherboard with 2GB Samsung PC3200 DDR Ram and 6 GeForce 6600GT cards in SLI. Nothing really unusual about that BUT in FS9 (in both configurations), I saw periodic flashes as the FPS dip to 1. Watching the FPS display sometimes gets me numbers as high as 178. Strange..I also fly WWIIOnline a whole lot. Now I do not …

For everybody interested in hardware (and software) Article #1; very brief re the upcoming Geforce 7900 - to be announced and/or released in March 2006: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=4343Ati's new X1900 series to be announced very soon (this January?): http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=310The next article is called 'Cell Goes Commando'. IMHO, this one is particularly interesting; 45 Pentiums in a box the size of a toaster... Article quote: >> ...geo-location, mapping, terrain rendering, video processing and communications. Not a bad list at all.<< Doesn't that immediately make you think FS?!? :-) http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/01/22/…

Hi,I need a little advice as to whether it's worth to upgrade my rig.First let me tell you what I have now... P4 2.8 (old 533 bus), Intel 865PERL motherboard with 1 gig DDR (333mhz ) running in dual paging mode with an ATI850pro 256gb AGP card.OK now.. I have to get a new processor/motherboard for the wife.. due to failure... due to budget limitations I cannot get anything too expensive. Here is what I was planning... Intel P4 640 on a cheap motherboard with 1024mb 400mhz ram. Now my questions are based around... is it worth me keeping the new hardware? ( and giving the wife my old stuff for her simple uses - outlook/word etc. )Would I see a worthwhile increase? My old pro…

I'm using Partition magic to re-size my C: drive, and getting a warning that I have crossed the 1024 cylinder linit and that the nachine may not boot. Is this a function of OS, HD, motherboard, BIOS or something else?I have not changed my partition due to the error, and wanted to ask here first.I'm running XP home on an A8N (Asus) motherbard, AMD 3700+, 1GB RAM, ad running some older HD's with IDE interfaces. Thanks for any advice, my copy of PM is a few versions old, so this may be some DOS-related ting.Bruce.

I am currently undergoing the process of searching for a new 20" monitor (or perhaps larger if under budget) but I do not want to sacrifice on quality.I almost went ahead and secured a Dell 2005FPW widescreen display yesterday but then read one or two bad reports relating to backlight issues.http://reviews.cnet.com/Dell_2005FPW/4852-...7-31232082.htmlWhat I would like to know is, just exactly how common a fault is this and have Dell addressed the problem since it first came to light? Also, would it be covered under Dell's warranty to the point of a refund if further replacements showed up the very same problem. In UK I can acquire one of these, refurbished by Dell, with fu…

How do these differ from each other? Can I have programs installed in one profile and not the other (and if so, do I have different files in each profile, or is it just a different registry profile)? Or is it just a different desktop? I have tried different hardware profiles.Thanks- Bruce

I recently bought a new Nvidea GForce 256MB card for the upcomming race as my old card was starting to fail and become unstable when used for FS. Unfortunatly after installing it FS9 started acting really strange, the 3d cloud textures looked very bad and pixelated no matter what I did to the settings and now no matter how I have the display settings I can't get better then 1FPS display.I checked my drivers (came with the latest already) and I know nothing is running in the background. virus and Spyware scans are all clean so does anyone have any idea what might be going on?Thanks

My Dell Gen2 P4 3.2 came with the hyperthreading disabled unknown to me until reading about it in the forums and getting into simming. I went in and enabled it and believe my performance in FS has decreased about 6FPS or sometimes more. The programs and airplane I fly are pretty resource intensive so I was at about 15 to 18, which was ok, but the decrease now makes a diiferernce. Should I try and fiddle with putting FS on one VP and other programs, trackIR and AVS on the other VP OR just disable hyperthreading? Thanks allFlygirl

My 128mb Radeon 9800 Pro failed recently so I bought what appeared to be the most powerful video card at my nearest computer store, a Sapphire 256mb ATI X800 XL AGP version. With FS2004 at the same settings as before I have noticed the frame rate continually running up and down even when flying straight and level from 55 to 20 fps in 2d view and 30 to 12 in 3D view (Flight 1's C172). I don'r remember this happening before but its possible I just didn't notice.Should my new card be more powerfull than the 9800 Pro and is this unstable framerate normal. Thanks Glen

Hello, I'm looking for a simple solution or a software to copy and paste to Excel structured content of directories and files of my data backups on DVDs. There are a few gfx software for creating covers, but I rather need to save the lists in my Excel tables. Does anyone know any free tools or software that can be used for this simple task? I guess it can even be possible with the standard WinXP/Office tools but can't figure it out. Thanks!

Since I got my system over two years ago, I've become aware that the newer add-ons were really sapping frame rates. A couple of weeks ago I discovered two things which have made an enormous difference. 1) BIOS. When my system was built for me, I specified I'd be using flight sim software, so I mistakenly assumed it would have been set up for optimal performance. However, I recently stumbled across the handbook for my MSI KT4V-L mainboard, and saw a reference to CPU clock settings in BIOS. Apparently, the board defaults to a CPU clock setting of 100 MHz. However, I knew mine (AMD Athlon 1900+)should be running at 133 MHz (which it doubles up to 266 MHz). I bit the b…

Omaga has already released his driver package based upon the ATI 6.1's. What interested me the most is a change that Ray Adams made to ATI Tray Tools. Specifically, he has added positive texture LOD. In the past all we ever had was 0 and negative LOD. While many folks would not want to use much positive LOD, having that capability now adds even more flexibilty to how each user configures his/her hardware and driver combo.More info here: http://www.driverheaven.net/showthread.php?t=96763Cheers,Greg

Q1a) I'm considering going from 1.5GB to 3GB of DDR400 (PC3200) RAM (please see my sys spec below). Currently I have 4 slots 2X256 and 2X512. I was going to get Crucial standard memory which I already have, rather than something like e.g. Ballistix. Is it worth getting rid of the 2X256 for 2X1GB?If I do upgrade:Q2a) With respect to fs9, where am I likely to see improvements with more memory? Might I see better FPS when using complex airliner addon's with FMC's etc?Q2b) With 1.5GB of RAM I currently set my paging file to min = 500MB and max = 800MB as I have never seen a paging file size indicated by Windows Task manager greater than 800MB when using a complex addon like P…

Hi guys I am suspecting bad RAM on this but am open to suggestions.I have an A8n-SLI premium MB 7800Gt card, 1GB of Corsair 2 2 2 5 XMS Dual Ch ddr RAM 400MHZ with an athlon 64 4000+ CPU. initially FS would not install at all claiming a different fault at each attempt.I replaced my SATA cables and moved the RAM to the other slots. Hi All,I said I would let you know the result of my 200 mile drive to get my new pc checked out. This was done free by Overclockers, my suppliers as they told me it was for being a good customer over the past year. They spent 7 hours checking out and rebuilding as reqd.they found seven faults my builder had done wrong these were rectified and the cards, memory etc.were set up correctly in the bios. The 3D Mark full pro stress test successfully looped for 3 hours showing flawless graphics. It will now play Farcry flatout with no problems.but here is the sad part for me, FS9 will not play correctly on my pc.Andy McLean Overclocker UK Technician did say that I would have trouble…
