Has anyone else had problems with the new ATI 5.12 drivers?I could not find a non-catalyst control center version at ATI's web site this month so I bit the bullet and down loaded that version. I also loaded the MS Net Framework software and its update as per the instructions in the ATI drivers. All I would get is hang ups in the FS2004 program and blurry ATC windows that I could hardly read. I even reloaded FS2004 and still no better. Finally I removed the 5.12 drivers and went back to the 5.11 drivers which use the ATI Control Panel instead of the Catalyst Control Center and now everything works just fine. Oh I also removed that MS Net Framework program too.Terry

Not sure if this is a Hardware or Software problem. When on the take-off or landing roll my aircraft will 'duck' left and right, attempting to control this this movement with my Saitek Cyborg 3D Force joystick makes the problem worse. Does anyone else experience this problem? It seems to me that the joystick needs 'damping' somehow. I checked the fs9.cfg file and found the following information; it means nothing to me :-[JOYSTICK_MAIN {E0CBCAC0-58E8-11DA-8001-444553540000}]AXIS_EVENT_00=AXIS_AILERONS_SETAXIS_SCALE_00=2AXIS_NULL_00=2AXIS_EVENT_01=AXIS_ELEVATOR_SETAXIS_SCALE_01=1AXIS_NULL_01=3AXIS_EVENT_05=AXIS_RUDDER_SETAXIS_SCALE_05=2AXIS_NULL_05=60AXIS_EVENT_06=A…

I'm wondering if dodgy or slow RAM can cause a decent spec computer to run slow?My problem is this. My system is as follows:Intel P4 3.2 o/clocked to 3.6 GHzATI Radeon X800XT Platinum Edition1GB RAM (DDr, but unsure of actual speed)I've got a decent power unit bought specifically to handle all the power demands (I think its 600W).My PS are in the high single numbers (about 7-10 fps) in the following situation:PMDG 747 inside cockpitAt Heathrow (standard FS scenery), Dense scenery, Sparse Autogen.AI set to 75% with MyTraffic 2004. With mipmap detail and world texture set to medium settings.I was expecting better FP from this system. Should I be? And if I should, wheres the…

Forgive me if I am asking something that's been asked. :)I've been out of the FS and hardware scene for quite a while, but some of you old fs guys from the 90's may remember me. :)I saw this review of gfx cards with FS2004:http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/dis...-27gpu2_26.htmlAnd from their test results, it looks like the AGP cards OUTPERFORM the PCI-Express cards in FS. Am I correct in this interpretation of the results? Thanks for any insight...Rhett KCGI

I'm in the build-up mode, and have been doing a ton of research. My conclusion - everyone has their own opion about what works best and why. Everyone seems to have had some problem at some time with some mfg. Looks like the perfect system just doesn't exist. (Pass the aspirin!) :-newburnOne thing I've noticed on several boards, is that it's best to match the capabilities of the video board to the mother board - avoid a bottle neck at all costs. Am I to guess correctly that current top (and near) top of the line components will match up?Not being married to ASUS, Abit, DFI, Gigabyte, etc. I am primarily looking for a good match between reliability and performance (duh!…

Hello,I have a machine with a P4 630 3.0GHz 2mb L2 cache, with ICH7, and PCI-express 16x, with a Geforce PCI-e 6800GT, and notice in PowerStrip that there is no AGP aperture noted, and I think 2mb of system memory available (on a 1GB DDR system). Is this a shortcoming of PowerStrip's reporting, or is it that PCI-e does not use AGP memory the same way, or doesn't use system memory at all. Anyone know?Noel

I have just bought a new 160 Gb SATA harddrive. Already had one 60 Gb (where I have Win XP Pro) and another old 5200 rpm 10 Gb drive. When I formatted the HD I selected to configure it as dynamic disc (the other two are basic). Was this a god choice? Yet there is nothing stored on it so I can reconfigure to basic. My intention is to have one partition for FS. How big should it be?Right now all my FS stuff take about 40 Gb and I plan to install more addons.I also is considering to try out Linux and at a later state maybe install Win XP 64 bit (or maybe Windows Vista will be a better choice)Is my total HD size with the new drive big enough for all this? How is it best partitio…

Hi,I recently purchased a registered version of Fraps but I have been unable to record sound in my videos although the record sound box is checked, all audio settings in the windows audio panel are set in order to allow these recordings. My Creative Sound Blaster PCI 128 card is detected, but what seems not to be normal is that the input device is set to default. Does it means that my sound card is obsolete ? Has someone got informations about such a issue ?Thanks for your help...Kind regards,Vincent Mellinger

I am looking at upgrading my PC and it looks like the dual core processors are getting more attention than the hyperthreading processors. It appears that FS9 does not currently take advantage of the dual core processor, but is anyone currently using the dual core processor? How does it appear to affect FS9 performance? Thanks for any suggestions!Airbus

Yesterday, 12/15/05 I received two automatic windows updates with the following results:1. Installed: "Security Update for Windows XP (KB905915)" and "Update for Windows XP (KB896424)"2. Immediately after installation, I had an error window pop up which stated: "This display driver is not compatible with the display adapter in your system." Everything looked normal with the exception of the message, and I could not bring up my Catalyst Control Center.3. Went to the ATI site and discovered that the Catalyst 5.12 drivers were available. Downloaded them. Presently useing the Catalyst 5.9 drivers with the Catalyst Control Center. Thought maybe the latest were required.4. Prec…

I was going to post this in the 'hardware' forum, but figured not all of use visit there :-)Basicilly, i want a general idea of what type of PC we all have, and what frames do you get.MECPU : intel celeron 1.7GHZGPU: Powercolor radion 9600 pro 256MBRam: 512 mb DDR 3200Operating system: Win2000 professionalDirectX 9sound: Audigy 2.Motherboard: SIS something. This is not a very powerful system, as the celeron is not very good. I am going to replace all of this before christmas with an expensive upgrade.Frames: Quite good in rural areas, but in built up cities can drop down to 3-5.

Can anyone tell me how to enable the mouselook of FS9 and CFS3 (i presume it will be something similar)? I am trying to use head tracking with a camera and I need to enable it somehow. According to TrackIR website, both games have mouselook, but I can't seem to find a relevant keystroke. Thanks beforehand.

Hi allDespite the numerous posts I've seen on this (and other) forums over the last few years advising ATI graphics and LCD monitor users to avoid eDimensional's 3D glasses, the possibilty of having FS2004 in glorious 3D is tempting me to ignore the warnings and give them a try.My understanding is that ATI's drivers don't currently support the rendering of pages in 3D, and the refresh rate on LCD monitors is too low to avoid flickering when using the glasses. To get around this, eDimensional provide a wrapper for the ATI drivers that provides 3D support, and also recommend using software called 'Powerstrip' to solve the refresh rate problem, however many users have had p…

Dear all,If I had a way to sticky this post to the top of the forum, I would. Lately, there's been a lot of posts from people looking to buy new systems or upgrading old ones, asking about what to get etc. (I'm guessing people are more willing to splurge a bit now that Xmas is coming up.) As with any forum, please do run some searches first and read some of the previous posts. You'll find that your question has probably been asked and answered before already. Now to the point of the post. Two leading technology hardware Web sites have given suggestions about what to get. Please see the following links:http://www.sharkyextreme.com/guides/MHGSBG...0707_3567566__8http:/…

So, now I have the system which is listed in my signature. And now I'm thinking, since I'm playing on this computer very much, especially FS9, I was thinking of getting following:Mainboard Socket-939 DDR ASUS A8N32-SLI DeluxeProzessor AMD Athlon 64 4000+, 2.4 GHz, S-939, BoxedTWINX DDR-RAM 2048MB, 433 MHz, PC-3500LL, CORSAIR (2x1024MB)ASUS Extreme N7800GTX/2DHTV, GeForce 7800 GTX, 512MB GDDR3, 2x DVI, ViVo, PCIeDo you think that this new config would really outperform my config? And for how much do you think? I know that SuperPI is not really faster on the 4000+, it's only about 3 sec or somethin'. Mine does around 33.5sec on 1MB calculation. And 4000+ does I think 30 or 3…

Dear experts,I've 2 HDDs (WD 74GB Raptor 10000 rpm 8MB SATA and WD Caviar SE 16 7200rpm SATA2 16MB 250GB). Questions:1. Is Windows XP Professional SP1 or SP2 better for FS9 performance (say in SP2 I will disable the firewall, autoupdate, and anti-virus software check)?2. I don't know whether it sounds stupid, or whether it is possible to have 3 multiple OS boot options and install 3 O/Ss - but please tell me if this plan work, or suggest a better one for me please. My objective is to have each Windows install for each of these usage intention without messing around the Windows System Folder(s) of others: (a) clean OS and boot for FS9 play; (:( another OS with normal boo…

After deciding that going back to AMD (64) right now would be too much work and not sure if I want to overclock, I'm thinking of simply going to a 3.4 Prescott processor from my existing 2.8. Have any of you done this and is it work the money (approx. $300US) for the frame rate increase payoff? Thanks.Ed Lin, D.O.S.

For the moment I have one 7200 rpm 60 Gb and one 5200 rpm 10 Gb harddrive both IDE. On the first I only have a few Gb free and on the second a few 100 Mb. I can't defragment the drives. So it seems I need a new harddrive just because of lack of storage place. How big should it be. The cheapest I find is on 80 Gb.One very interesting drive is Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 SATA 160 Gbsomewhat more expensive. It has been best in test in computer magazine. My motherboard only supports SATA II. Is it possible to get a SATA II card and using SATA II drives. I have heard that SATA I does not give much performce gain compared to IDE.Should partion the drive or is it best to use it as one …
