The Paint Shop - The Aircraft Painter's Forum - How To

Interested in learning how to do re-paints of aircraft? Interested in sharing your techniques and talent? This forum is for re-painters of all interests and skill levels!

  1. My first repaint. Still tweaking details and trying to get the colors right. N4635K had beige instrument panel covers at one point, so I will be making an alternate version as well. Criticism welcome. Nitpick it. I'd like to make this as close as possible to the actual plane. But in many places, I have to get creative since the A2A geometry is significantly more modern than the referenced real-world aircraft, especially in the cockpit. N736HD is nearly identical to this aircraft, but the paint is faded, and the interior is worn and damaged. I plan to follow up with that plane later. I will post more photos as I progress.

I've been looking all over the internet, but I can't find Air France's tail textures (blue and red stripes) anywhere, for usage in my repaint. Does anybody have any suggestions on where to find it? Thanks in advance!

Here is a " preview " of re worked textures of a paint that I made some 5 years ago ( I was surprised at the length of time when I checked ) . Have made some changes , such as realigning the invasion stripes , squadron codes and registration . Will be available as Version 2 shortly . John

Some time ago I made several paints for RealAir Spitfire and one I was working on was lost in a harddisk crash . I recently came across some photographs showing MK732 as she is now . As the original paint supplied by RealAir has the same " mistake " that I myself made with my Dutch Spitfire paints that the roundels are reversed , made me decide to create a " new " version . As a " virtual " Merlin costs nothing , here is a screen of the result when you " blow " one up , just a shame I couldn't capture the effects as it happened . Goes without saying that this is a " Work in Progress " , still have some work to do with the spec maps . John

Good Morning, I am looking for a guide or instructions on painting the Eaglesoft Citation X 2.0. I am used to using the paint kits from Carenado and PMDG, however I am having a hard time figuring out how to split the master file into the two separate fuselage files that the other paints have. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it, as Google couldn't find anything for me. Thank you in advance, Joe

Series of tails of the AirbusX Extended . First is G-BRSA which was destined to be the first of 10 aircraft for British Caledonian ( G-BRSA thru G-BRSJ ) and was painted in BCal livery but was instead taken over by British Airways and repainted in the Landor livery and re registered G-BUSB thru G-BUSK . All 10 aircraft from the original BCal order flew until recently in BA colours with the CFM powerplant ( the rest of the Airbus fleet are IAE powered ) and served for more than 20 years . Several ( if not all ) of these were given " World " tails and are shown here below . Others may follow ( no promises ) , the main difficulty is finding pictures with a high ( enough )…

The original livery is actually a Saab 340B, but I only have the Jetstream 41, so I decided to paint it. Silver Airways also flies the Beechcraft 1900D, and I will be painting the Carenado 1900D in Silver Airways colors too.

  11. Hey guys, this is my first post here. I've been into 3D for a couple of years now but I've never been able to get my textures to look good st all. I can put rivets and panels on it, but they look flat and almost plastic-like. I need to get some variation in the surface so it looks more natural. For example, this shot of McPhat Studios' Fokker 50 looks absolutely outstanding...but I can't figure out how they can brush in all of that detail (they hand-paint everything.) There is a bump map in there as well which gives the surface some dimension, but a lot of the weathering and paint chips are in the diffuse. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HiJbeu28ejM/UZJXlV_HG2I/AAAAAAAAYeU/…

Another revised texture ( with new registration ) , this time ANA JA8400 . Since my original paint ( in 2010 ) and the update ( in 2013 ) for the Extended version ANA have reduced their A320 fleet from 33 to 13 and no longer use the A321 . John

Hello All, I duplicated this post here, from CS unofficial forum, I think that is the best place to have an answer. I have downloaded the paint kit for the 757-200 and 300 from captainsim, and I can't convert the psd texture to BMP that doesn't work? And no help from CS forum  I use PSD Viewer and/or Easy2convert, and these programs work very well with PSD textures from PMDG Level D and others?? Anybody has an idea? Your answer will be greatly appreciated Thank in advance for your help Best regards Dom
