Hi All,Part of the engine instrument panel on my MAAM-SIM DC-3 (cargo version) is a tad hard to read. The top four gauges are fine (and you can get even larger versions of the RPM and MP gauges on the throttle quadrant popup). The bottom four gauges, however, are tough for my old eyes :-). Wish there were an enlarged panel (like the Pilot's IFR Panel) for them. I did go into VC and closed in on them for a somewhat better view, but this is a bit inconvenient when I just want to scan them in the ordinary course of flying. I've been through the manual many times, but maybe I'm missing something simple here :-).Thanks,Gary

Is it possible to use celestial navigation (day and night) with FS9 and the M.A.A.M. DC-3 cargo plane (which has no navigation bubble)? I'd be willing to go outside (spot plane) to shoot the sun or key stars, giving up a tad of realism :-). I guess the question is really whether the location of the sun and the major stars normally used for celestial navigation are properly modeled in FS9, and, if so, whether you can do this with real instruments or would be required to have virtual capability. Also, any pointers (web sites, forum posts, etc.) that would provide useful information for celestial navigation in FS9 would be appreciated. A couple of my "round the world" trips …

Hi All, I seem to be getting a power loss on the DC3. This has happened to me on my last two flights with the DC3 BEA Cargo version. Shortly after levelling out and setting MAP to 31 and RPM to 2250 I experience a reduction in MAP this gets progressively worse and I have to increase throttle to counteract it. Eventualy I find myself using full throttle just to try and maintain altidude. At the same time however my information text bar at the top of the screen reads 0 KIAS I dont know why this is happening and the only thing I can think of that I have added between normal operation and the start of this problem is ActiveSky 6 but I cant see that being the problem. I fly us…

Have only recently bought the MAAM DC3 and am very impressed, its a real beauty to fly. I have a few queries though. Is this aircraft capable of following a VOR radial when in autopilot, and if so, how is it set up?, Can you set up an approach for an ILS ?, and what is a realistic altitude or flight level to use. I note that it is fitted with blowers,so I presume this is for pressurisation.Cheers,Neil

  7. I recently developed a problem where the MAAM DC-3's and R4D won't start. The symptoms are that the engine turns over, but never catches. (Battery, magnetos and master start switch are on, there is fuel in the tanks, fuel selectors are correct and the usual fuel pump/prime/vibrator etc sequence is followed.) I fly these aircraft almost exclusively, so I'm pretty sure that I know how to start them. Now here is the crazy part. If I load the default MAAM R4D startup flight at Reading, the aircraft starts fine. I can shut it down and restart it over and over. If, however, I use the "Go to airport" feature to move the aircraft to another airport, it won't start. It doesn…

Hi All,I think I have a problem with my M.A.A.M.-SIM DC-3 clock. My FS2004 setting is on "system time." My computer reads CST (my time zone) correctly to the second. Right now, for example, it is 2:10 pm CST, which is 2010 GMT. However, my DC-3 clock always says 9:00 when I load the DC-3, and my Bitzer-Beaumont bubble sextant reads +6 hours added to the clock (which is correct since CST is GMT -6).Naturally, I want the bubble sextant time to read accurate GMT so that my results are correct. I believe the sextant takes the DC-3 clock and adjusts for time zone to produce GMT. So the task appears simply to get the DC-3 clock to read the correct time. The problem is that I can'…

Greetings,I'm about to install the Driftmeter in my DC-3, and have a question.I came across an article by a WWII B-29 navigator who said that you could determine ground speed with a driftmeter by measuring the time it took an object to pass from the top of the meter to the bottom, provided you knew your exact altitude (didn't say what kind of altitude :-)). Anyone know about this technique? Thanks,Gary

Hi Folks,I've happily used the MAAM DC3 in FS9 ever since it came out, on what is now my old computer (PIII). I recently bought a new computer (specs below) and I'm having CTD's only with the DC3 while panning in spot mode. So far I've only tried the United Airlines version at various airports (JFK, Malpensa). Here are the details:When I first loaded FS9 and the DC3 on my new computer I was getting CTD's with other aircraft as well as the DC3. I then uninstalled/installed FS9 and carefully added one scenery addition at a time and then would fly and taxi one of the default planes for a while to be sure I'm not getting CTD's with that addon. I also installed other add…

I currently use the CH Pro Yoke to fly my MAAM-SIM DC-3 (BEA Cargo version). I've assigned the two leftmost levers to throttles for engines 1 & 2, and the right lever for joint prop control (I use the mouse to move the mixture levers).I'd like to add the CH Throttle Quadrant so I could have independent engine control for throttle, props, and mixture. That would also free up the three Pro Yoke levers for other uses, and give me a dozen more buttons to assign to useful things :-)Question . . . has anyone else used this combination of hardware? Any problems doing so? Any problems assigning any function you want to any lever or button on either piece of hardware? In short…

Hi Guys,It's been a while!A question. I have been considering doing some more repaints soon, for both an Arkia C47 and IAF's goonies in their service colors. Is there a chance you will relese a metal/metal-white-top/green paint kit for the C47s?The existing paint kit somewht fits, but some alterations have to be done, and using the original textures while getting rid of the original markings/colors is a mess...Thanks,Orenhttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/825051/142.png

Hi,I have installed the CH Throttle Quadrant in order to be able to control propeller, throttle and mixer for left and right engine independently. First i calibrated via FS9 but my two left handles (= X and Y axis for propeller control) made a "jump" in the upper field. This was fixed when I installed CH Control Manager and used the calibrating tool in this program. Now I have this problem with the two leftmost handles ((= X and Y axis for propeller control) that when flying I want to reduce RPM to - for instance - 2050 RPM the needles of the 2 engines do not follow each other allthough I move the handles absolutely toghether. It's kind

Hi Guys, I like to fly using TrackIR and virtual cockpit and I was wondering is there a way to remove the yoke from the pilots side but retain the yoke on the co-pilots side? I know I can install the light version of the cockpit But I would like to have the co-pilots yoke visible. So is there a way this can be done?

The History Channel's "Gunny" R. Lee Ermey, complete with his Jeep, tent, gear, and 'Mail Call' film crew is coming to MAAM's World War II Weekend this June! I'm told they saw the new website and asked to participate! Wow, talk about a payoff for a fledgling webmaster!Gunny Ermey will be leading the 'Liberation of Reading' vehicle convoy in his Jeep on Friday as well as the Saturday and Sunday on-field convoys. In between time he'll be signing autographs, selling his goodies, and filming the show for a future episode of 'Mail Call'We'll get him to fly the MAAM-SIM planes, for sure. :-)As if that were not enough to get you to the show, how about the only Lancaster and r…

Hi Group,Using the keyboard with my M.A.A.M-SIM DC-3, I find that it takes about 25-30 clicks to move the mixture levers from the top (Full Rich, FR) to the bottom (Idle Cutoff, IC). Of course, using the mouse (or my CH hardware levers) it's a smooth transition. My question is whether the mixture is actually leaned on a smooth curve, or has just 4 positions (FR, Auto Rich (AR), Auto Lean(AL), and IC) that are achieved by moving the levers to the middle of the indicated area. I've tried listening to the sound of the engines as a way to tell, but until I get toward the bottom of the AL bracket it's difficult to discern any significant difference. Finally, the "Auto" in AR a…

This one is for Mark:since I want to brush up my astronav skill (never used after passing the written ATPL, even when flying the north pole...) I try to use your excellent bubble sextant with the R4D. It seems to be a dead link with the "short guide to celestial navigation" you mention (on the German website). Also when re-enacting the setup flight, at Norfolk, there is only a 4 hours spread between the local and zulu time on my screen...By the way, is there a printer-friendly version of this superb handbook ?To this point, I don't feel confident enough to cross the pound solely on this device but I sure will try my best to understand how to use it!Regards,Francois

  24. I have some problems slowing down the airspeed of my DC3 during descend/approach.When aproching an airport I descend and this phase should contains three segments: 1) Cruise Descent, 2) Initial Approach, and 3) Final Approach. (according to DC3-Airways website).(1) Cruise Descend:For instance I descend from 5500 ft to 3000 ft in order to be at 3000 ft about 10 NM from the airport. I reduce the Manifold Pressure to 20 in. and leave the props at 2050 RPM. trying to obtain a descend rate of 500 fpm and continue with an airspeed of about 140 kts.(2) Initial Approach:To slow the aircraft from about 140 kts. to 105 kts. I'm told to reduce power by setting Masinfold Pressure to …

'Morning all:The lead-in sentence in the AVSIM announcement for the latest MAAM-Sim add-ons to me, at least, says it all: "With the addition today of three new files, there are now 202 FREE downloads on the FREE STUFF page." This is a wonderful number of add-ons for very fine products, the page jam-packed with goodies. But am I the only one who finds it the page an unnecessary challenge?Having 202 downloads on a single page, with B-25 and R4D/DC-3/C47 models together wtih repaints, panels, manuals, scenery, etc. makes it something of a grab-bag. The latest add-ons are to be found "at the end of the Table of Contents" -- but just finding that end can be a chore. It could …
