I'm using 1.8 in offline mode. I set the destination in the box and select get and force and it gives me my destination weather. Force distance is 60nm. I then fly and weather appears to change OK enroute except that the winds remain set to the aloft figure e.g. yesterday at 10 nm from egjb and at 3000ft. The surface wind isn't kicking in but remaing at the aloft figure. I was getting a reported 247/17 from the wxre dialogue box but the actual weather showing on the instruments was 277/54. This also was reported by ATIS. The only way to get the surface wind sensible is to minimise FS and reforce the destination. This is a real pain in the a.. to do this on approach b…

Recently I have begun flying some Pacific routes, with stops in places like Hawaii and New Zealand. I noticed that there do not seem to be any winds aloft reporting stations in either Hawaii or New Zealand. Flying into PHNL I get the west coast but then outside the 500 nm range. Same thing flying between Sydney and Auckland - winds aloft reported for Sydney but then out of range about half way through the flight. Can you shed any light on this? I am using 1.8 RC6 I think, trying to keep up with the beta versions as they come out. Thanks and great program!Ben

Hello. I'm wondering if someone can answer a quick question for me regarding ActiveSky 2002 v1.5 (the free version). Is it possible to see the weather in other areas besides where you are currently at? It seems as thought the weather map in FS2002 is not updated with the weather that is grabbed by ActiveSky.So, let's say you want to fly in some nasty weather... How do you find it? You can't use the map and click on areas to see where it might be raining, etc.Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have had FS crash on me in the past month or so SEVERAL times. I usually run about 5 programs that are related to FS at any given time and I always keep the current version of FSUIPC in my machine. So, to nail down which program (maybe even FS itself) was giving me problems, I formatted my machine and resintalled Winders XP. I then Resinstalled FS, current FSUIPC releast, FSRealTime, FS Flight Tracker, FSNavigator, ActiveSky, Jep Charts, and finally my favorite payware PSS birds. I flew my first flight with everything running from KLAS to KORD and when I got half way the FS hung on me and finally crashed my machine. So, I then take a flight from KORD to KTPA AND I do…

Hi All,Being new to this add on for Fs2002 i had a chance to see what flying was like in real weather time.Time was 16.25 local time, 15.25 gmt, real weather (outside my window)was very overcast/cloudy & raining. As i live between edinburgh & carlisle, it was a good time to see if this real weather software works with what is going on outside. Now, at the runway at edinburgh, activesky live online, the weather was showing scattered clouds. Ok i thought, i will head south to the approx location of where i live in the borders. The weather got a bit cloudy, but was scattered & no rain present when i was about in my location. Can anyone explain why this is ? & the…

Damian,After using both 1.7 and 1.8 (beta) versions of Activesky regularly for over a month, and also after reading this forum for the past month, I have come to the conclusion that your choice of online servers is inherently flawed due to it's unreliability. Your customers, including myself with a DSL cable modem, cannot reliably download weather information on a consistant basis (in either online or offline mode) with your current choice of the US Government WMO server for Activesky online data retrieval. The U.S. WMO server is not now, has not been in the past, and will likely not be, reliable in the future. I do not believe the WMO server has the capacity to con…

I've purchased the CD version from Just Flight, and upgraded to version 1.7 via their website.Using Radar Contact, PSS A320, and ActiveSky flying LHR-ZRH.During the climb I changed views to see the enhanced clouds. Shift S used. Coming back to the panel view the climb rate had almost leveled off, and the speed had increased. The level off resulted in a busted altitude warning from ATC.This happened several more times whenever the view was changed from the main panel. ( Overhead, Top down view, Shift S)Similar on the descent, with speed increasing to such an extent that we met the ground about 5 miles from the end of the runway at 280kts.I've tried the same flight with eve…

Maybe it's just a NOAA problem today but the newest release candidate seems to be the worst yet.I'm really getting to detest that damn "boop" sound with a wxRE dialog box pissing and moaning about something or another. Offline mode in particular seems worse than ever. Is anyone else having better luck?

Hi All,I got my copy today in the post-active sky wxRE & installed.I was wondering if anyone could help with the following:1) The UTC setting, as we are in GMT-london ETC, i take it the setting should be 0, not minus or plus, is this correct?2) when flying into clouds & i look left or right, the clouds are wafer thin, is this a FS2002 Problem & can it be fixed?3) i am using version 1.7, is this the most upto date ? cheersMike.

Damian, in another post you stated the following: Do you use SB? If so do you have real wx turned off here (required)? How do you make sure it is turned off? The only thing I see is under "options", there is "Ignore real world weather". Is that supposed to be checked? Thanks

Hi!!RC5 v1.8 is available for public beta (you must be an existing 1.x wxRE user). Link is http://www.hifisim.com/wxre18updaterc5.zipThis fixes a problem with offline winds process and leading zeros in the station ID, causing lack of proper winds during offline use for certain areas of the world. Performance for online winds download was also worked on and should be improved slightly. This should be the last on the list, and assuming no new bug reports come in, official release will happen sometime this weekend. If you have any bugs to report, please do so right away. Thank you for your help!!-Damian

[td align = "left…

I'm a FSMeteo and ActiveSky user and after a couple of months of using ActiveSky I have recently encountered some bad weather on a few of my flights. I have come across a situation when the weather was at zero visabilty and impossible to land as it appeared that the cloud elevation was below the ground elevation. After switching to FSMeteo at the same location the weather appeared to be correct as was reported. I know with FSMeteo that the cloud elevation is compensated for ground elevation. My question is as follows, does ActiveSky compensate for this ground elevation in the weather that is downloaded and if so what is the setting make this happen. Thanks in AdvanceGrant…

Hello Pilots!!!As version 1.0 development concludes and we begin to focus on 2.0, I thought I'd start this thread to encourage discussion and feedback about what features our users want to see.As we all know, development of new features takes time and in order to bring a successful add-on to release in a decent time frame we must prioritize. The highest priority I can think of at this point is to integrate wxRE as much as possible with the next version of Microsoft Flight Simulator. It is not certain that FSUIPC will remain a viable means of internal FS control - so development of an alternative FS communication module may be important to the future success of wxRE. This…

Hi again,I am having problems with the ActiveSKY weather not matching the Atis report from the airport with the Metar report. Any help on this issue? Also, yesterday I flew from LOWI to EGCC and the Metar had a report of overcast sky, ceiling of 4000' with visibility of 10nm in rain. After I landed and proceeded to the taxiway all of the sudden the weather change to a clear blue sky and unlimited visibility????Why is this happening? This action of drastic change in weather is happening quite often with me.I use Online mode and I am always connected to the internet via DSL line.ThanksJT

I'm really new to FSflightMax and Activesky. I have been using the weather program that comes with FS2002 for weather when flying online. Will ActiveSky 2002 work with FSflightMax when flying online or do I have to upgrade to the ActiveSky wxRE?

HiI think that I have come across a bug in how the winds aloft station is choosen. I have struggled to get winds aloft for my "home airport" ESNN where there is a valid report in the windsXXz.wmo files and also an entry in the wmo.txt file. The problem is that the stationnumber in wmo.txt says 02365 and in the downloaded windfiles the stationnumber is 2365. The program isn't able to match theese two numbers. When I change to 02365 in the windfile it works ok, but it doesn't work to change to 2365 in wmo.txt. I think this is a problem with all stationnumbers that starts with 0.Regardsolle

Hi all,RC4 is now ready at http://www.hifisim.com/wxre18updaterc4.zipThis fixes a problem with the magnetic variation conversion logic in FS wind displays. This may cause variations in ATIS reporting - and you may wish to use "Adjust ATIS reporting" option in FSUIPC.Also reduced the random variation amount in wind direction, so experienced conditions are more exact to reports.-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg][/tr…

Damian,I have been working quite satisfactorily with ActiveSky v1.5, connecting to the internet with no problems through my current Internet Provider(which isn't a portal type,it just connects you to the internet).Recently I tried AOL(the 120 hs free trial).I found out that the connection stability of AOL is excellent, but also that ActiveSKy doesn't go at all on line.Is this happening because AOL is a portal and doesn't respond to ActiveSky perhaps(I would find it strange)? Is there any way around the problem? Thanks.Carlo

Hi, I need help. It's wonderfully stormy here in Northern California today and I wanted to test out using ActiveSky with FS FlightMax. It works fine on my main machine. I get excellent radar returns. However, on my remote machine, I get nothing at all and I've tried for hours to figure out what is not right and have had no luck.I believe the setup is correct. First, I do get radar returns on the remote machine when using FS generated weather. For example, the Guam demo that comes with FlightMax works just fine on the remote machine. It is only when I try and use ActiveSky weather that I encounter the problem.I've carefully followed the instructions for setting up ActiveSk…
